Personality

Two words that would best describe SPU would be steadfast and resolute. SPU's unwavering resolve to help other heroes in their endevors has earned him many praises, even from heroes as great as Statesman.

Equipment

Much of SPUs equipment is internal, but it has been known that SPU process a Crey pistol that freezes his foes, but he rarely uses it due to the long recharge period.

Character History

In response to the Rikti incursion in 2002, a shadow organization initiated the Mechanoid Project. These "mechanoids" were designed to combat any future alien incursions. The final proposal were to make two different units. The Mobile Assault Unit which will serve as the primary combat unit; and the Shield Projection Unit, which will be the tactical support unit for the MAUs.

In the summer of 2004, the first Shield Projection Unit prototype was undergoing field tests in Paragon City when it suffered a catastrophic shutdown. Once its systems restarted, this prototype SPU somehow became sentient. It then determined to help other heroes in their endevors. A short time later, SPU joined a Super Group called The Aurorae. While in The Aurorae, SPU gained true friendships with the other group mates.

Shortly after obtaining the highest security level, SPU learned that his creators had initiated their Omega Directive. This directive was meant to erase any evidence of a project that they deem a failure. Knowing that his existance was at stake, SPU left Paragon City.

For the next two years, SPU waged a guerrilla war against his creators by raiding their facilities. During these raids, SPU freed other Shield Projection Units and destroyed all of the prodution facilities and other stragetic targets.

In between his raids, SPU was also overseeing the construction of a next-generation mechanoid. This next-generation mechanoid will have human-like emotional responses and behavor patterns. Once completed, this mechanoid will become the hero named Simika.

Towards the end of 2006, SPU had destroyed all of his creators facilities. All that was left was to go after his creators directly. With Simika at his side, SPU set out to complete his task. Once they arrived; once they arrived, what they saw wasn't a group of humans, but another mechanoid.

This mechanoid was created to elimate all Shield Projection Units, in accordance to the Omega Directive. Instead of doing its primary directive, it turned on its creators, and then waited for SPU to come. Calling itself the Omega Command Unit; this mechanoid has the same Rikti-based shield projectors and portal systems. But instead of particle accelerators, the Omega Command Unit can summon other mechanoids to fight.

The battle was long and fierce, but SPU and Simika were victorious. But their victory was bitter, for Omega told them that there was signs ot another Rikti invasion.

Since then, both SPU and Simika returned to Paragon City, and has since then joined up with The Justice Guard.

Since then, both SPU and Simika returned to Paragon City, and has since then joined up with The Justice Guard.

During his time with The Justice Guard, SPU has observed Simika as she quickly rose to achieve the highest security level as well as make new friends; namely ArchStrike and Genine. However this period of calm would not last.

A villainous group funded by Achranos has attacked various members of The Justice Guard. While Simika was doing a patrol within Bloody Bay, she was attacked by a villain named Xerixon that was accompanied by a Mobile Assault Unit controlled by the OMEGA AI. OMEGA told Xerixon to bring Simika to its lab for further study.

OMEGA observed that Simika's neuro-circuitry was more advanced than it anticpated; but he would be able to control the body once Simika's persona matrix was transferred to a nearby computer lab.

SPU, sensing that Simika might be in danger due to other members being attacked started to search for her. When SPU found her, Simika; under the control of the OMEGA AI; attacked SPU, nearly killing him. OMEGA then proceeded to infiltrated Justic Guard HQ to destroy it from within.

SPU managed to contact a Mobile Assault Unit that he managed to salvaged that Justice Guard HQ was being infiltrated. The Mobile Assault Unit attacked Simika with enough power to force OMEGA to transfer its persona into a nearby vessel and escape.

In 2009, SPU and Simika was contacted by an Arbiter from Achranos to arrange a meeting at a neutral location; which Simika suggests Vanguard HQ in the RWZ. The Arbiter agreed.

As it turns out; the Arbiter was in charge of the security detail that was transporting OMEGA to a more secure facility. However; OMEGA broke free and escaped. The Arbiter was then tasked to destroy the AI by any means necessary. He then requested for their assistance in this endevor; which they agreed. Along with Xerixon and the Arbiter, SPU and Simika gave chase.

It didn't take long to pick up on OMEGA's trail. However it always manage to make good its escape after it has completed its objective at the time. The team chased OMEGA all throughout The Rogue Isles and Paragon City; leaving a swath of destruction behind them.

During this time: SPU made the discovery that an incompatible protocol was installed prior to his field testing was to begin in Paragon City. It was this protocol that had shut his neuro-processor to shutdown and gave SPU his sentience and would be the key in shutting down OMEGA for good.

the chase finally ended in an orbital weapons platform that had enough power to unleash a high-altitude EMP powerful enough to destroy every electroinc device on Earth.

Knowing that in order to shut OMEGA down, SPU would have to activate his ALPHA protocol; but doing so would fragment his own persona matrix, essentially erasing his identity. SPU quickly conferred with his teammates on his plan. Despite Simika's objections; they all realized it was the only course of action that was available.

SPU then reinforced his teammates shields; afterwards, he proceeds to march towards the central terminal that is housing the AI. OMEGA proceed to launch multiple number of attacks, but each attack was intercepted by the other three members. When SPU finally reached the terminal, he activates the ALPHA protocol that would shut OMEGA down permanently. Afterwards, without a persona matrix, SPUs neuro-processor shuts down as well: killing him.

Abilities

Using Rikti-base shield generators, SPU has the ability to project shields around other heroes. SPU also has a pair of particle accelerators in his gauntlet that he uses in combat. SPU also has a Rikti-based portal generator. Unfortunately, this portal generator can only be used to teleport one individual a short distance before becoming unstable.

Weaknesses & Limitations

Due to the unique construction of his bio-neuro circuitry and neuro-processor, SPU can be affected by psychic attacks. As well, when SPU is not active in the field, he tends to be somewhat reserved and aloof. And at times, he puts to much guilt on things that were not under his control.
