The basic idea for this character was an urban hunter that used a bow and gadgets to catch their quarry. The background started from the fact that after the advent of the firearm, archery had become a pasttime for the wealthy, and grew from there.

Background

Early Life

Hans Thorpe got his start busing tables in Steel Canyon in the 1960's. Over the years, he went on to build a personal fortune by founding his own restaurant chain. However, this only served to finance his true passion: big game hunting. In particular, he preferred to hunt with a bow and arrow, finding the weapon to be more primal, more intimate. He was greatly pleased when his daughter Diana, his only child, showed the same aptitude with a bow as he did.

As soon as she was old enough, he began to take her with him on various safaris. However, as Diana grew older and matured with the looks of her mother (a trophy wife), her interests changed. She began to spend most of her time with other teens of similar status, and soon became caught up in the "party girl" lifestyle of her peers (with much disapproval from her parents).

Turbulent Times

As luck would have it, Diana and her father were away on safari at the onset of the first Rikti invasion. Her mother, however, was not so lucky. Her body was never found.

Diana and her father dealt with the loss in very different ways. Hans became brooding and withdrawn, secluding himself within the family estate. On the other hand, Diana's late night forays became more and more reckless to the point where waking up in the same apartment two mornings in a row was a rarity. Fed up with her antics, her father was able to convince her to join Longbow (because Wyvern did not accept female recruits), in the hopes that it would instill discipline and direction in her life.

Despite the idealistic trappings of the organization, Diana found herself spending all of her time with other fit youths in form-fitting spandex with nothing to occupy their downtime. Naturally, this did little to curtail her excesses, especially when her squad was deployed to a remote location like Bloody Bay.

It didn't take long for the quiet of Bloody Bay to be shattered by Arachnos intrusions. Soon, the villains pushed the unprepared heroes back to the base in which Diana's squad was stationed. As the battle washed over her location, Diana and her squad became collateral damage...

Epiphany

Diana awoke in the hospital to find that she had been horribly maimed in the incident- her face had been disfigured, and she had lost part of both arms and roughly 30% of her leg function. Her former friends visited her once or twice, then stopped coming; once she had lost her vitality and her looks, they no longer had any reason to associate with her.

Despairing and lonely, her hopes were further crushed when she received word that her father had been killed on a hunting trip in Africa. As sole executor of his estate, she was in little position to resist as El Super Mexicano executives offered her a generous sum for her father's restaurant franchises in their abortive bid to monopolize Paragon City's restaurant industry.

From the Ashes

After rehabilitating from her injuries, Diana was left with little beyond the settlement from her father's business. She invested most of it in obtaining state of the art prosthetics and other combat-oriented equipment (detailed below). Registering with Freedom Corps under the hero name "Shadowfletch," she takes to the streets to destroy those who would subject anyone to the kind of loss she had suffered.

Personality

Although Diana is almost always found with a grim demeanor, she actually cares a lot about other people and what she's doing. She chafes with other heroes who don't seem to take their job seriously, assuming that they don't fully understand what's at stake.

She is also slow to warm up to new people, which can make her difficult to work with at times. This stems from the behavior of her "friends" after the incident in Bloody Bay. She wants to feel people out more thoroughly before considering them friends.

Equipment

Archery

A custom bow made of state of the art synthetics. It is believed to be capable of a very high draw weight for maximum hitting power. The arrows she uses have spring-loaded blades that expand after impact with a target. This lets them penetrate like a bodkin but do tissue damage like a broadhead.

Devices

Headset

An integrated set of goggles and comm device. The goggles are capable of scanning in the infrared and ultraviolet spectrums, and sport a targeting heads up display.

Defensive

A catch all for devices she uses to avoid or hinder her opponents. Items include sticky grenades, smoke grenades, caltrops, and a light diffusion ("stealth field") device.

Explosives

This includes explosive-tipped arrows and proximity mines that are used as booby traps.

Medicine

A portable medical device that can treat wounds in the field.

Prosthetics

Built to high specifications, Shadowfletch's artificial arms are much stronger and durable than a typical human's. She also wears powered leg braces that grant her terrific maneuverability on the battlefield.

Weaknesses and Limitations

Despite having low-grade ballistic armor integrated into her costume, Shadowfletch is a very fragile combatant. She has only received basic Longbow hand to hand training, and can be easily overpowered in melee.

She also relies completely on her prosthetics to be able to fight. Disabling them will incapacitate her outright.
