Former USAF test pilot turned contractor, Alan Jenkins was unaware of what was going to happen the day he strapped on the prototype personal "Anti-gravity" pack for testing. Hired by Phoenix Industries because of his extensive skills as a test pilot, Alan was more than up to the task, until the unthinkable happened.
Five minutes into his test flight, the pack suffered a power surge that sent the young man sprialing out of control. At the last moment before he would have careened into a school bus nearly 200 miles away, he managed to veer off course and crash into a textile manufacturing plant.
Bathed in the soup of the chemicals and the electromagnetic and plasma radiation leaking from the backpack, Alan sur vived but was changed. As a result, Alan did not ignore his new found changes as many would, instead he embraced them. He swore that since he was given these powers, this gift, it was his responsibility to use them wisely.
