Solarette
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Solarette is a Plant/Radiation Emission controller and is currently in the process of being leveled. Though raised on a farm just outside of Oberlin, Kansas, Solarette is not native to Earth. She came to the planet as an infant when her parents made an emergency landing in a corn field belonging to Christopher and Helen Graham. The Grahams took Solarette and her family under their care, but Solarette's parents were very ill and rapidly getting worse. Their home planet had been devastated by decades of war and a mysterious disease known only as the Sickness. Those conditions had prompted Solarette's parents to flee Solieh before they became infected with the illness, but they were too late. By the time they arrived on Earth, the Sickness had already begun to take its toll and they were not going to survive for much longer. Having grown fond of their (incredibly) unexpected visitors, the Grahams agreed to look after Solarette and raise her as their own child once her parents passed away. They also promised to hold onto a set of books and letters from Solieh so that Solarette could understand what she was someday.
While looking fairly human, Solarette has a number of characteristics and meta-powers that clearly set her apart from normal Homo sapiens. Most notable are her abilities to channel solar radiation and manipulate plant life. All of Solieh's population was capable on some level of using solar radiation for any number of tasks, but those tasks varied by individual. Solarette's powers manifested when she was a young girl, and the Grahams kept their adopted child close to home to avoid too many questions from their neighbors. Once Solarette grew older, she was able to keep her abilities secret enough to allow her to live a relatively typical life. Until she decided it was time to use her powers for something besides ensuring Earth Father had a good crop every year.
