This character takes backstory cues from a variety of different sources - the biggest inspiration comes from The Flash, without the super-speed. He was created originally as "Identify," an anthropomorphic wolf-shark character that was created as close to the original appearance his creator wanted within the limitations of the City of Heroes character creator. The character itself was never properly fleshed out prior to City of Heroes' closure and was largely shelved. With COH's resurgence, the character was returned to become a more contemporary human character with a backstory inspired by actual comic book superheroes. He is currently being leveled on the Everlasting Homecoming server.

Background

An out-of-state student from Pennsylvania, Garret was born to a normal suburban family outside of Philadelphia. A bright student through his youth, he was accepted and enrolled into Paragon University at the age of eighteen. He was fascinated with technology from an early age, but felt his calling fell more towards Marine Biology - with an equal fascination for sharks and similar creatures. Then the Rikti attacked, and mild-mannered Garret was caught between a rock and a hard place. Escaping from the chaos, he found himself locked inside of a room in which an unstable electromagnetic experiment was taking place without supervision and containment - and the resulting meltdown knocked him into a coma for the better part of a year.

Once he came to, he discovered having the power to manipulate the electrostatic energies around him and harness them. This allowed him to be able to generate a living field of electromagnetism around him at-will. It didn't take long for him to pull himself together and head out onto the streets of Paragon City - encouraged and inspired by the presence of other superheroes and people wanting to make a difference to act on his own. From his fascination of marine wildlife, he took on the fitting name of "Static Shark."

Through his alter-ego he also learned the intricacies of computer technology, having returned to Paragon University to earn a degree in Computer Sciences. He uses his affinity for computers to help aid him in his day-to-day as a meta-human by tapping into his own personal terminal to learn what's going on that might need his attention. His day-job also involves working technical support on computers for various customers around the city, which also helps him in learning recent events.

Personality

Garret is a simple person with simple needs. He considers himself outgoing, easy to speak with - and exudes a warming and charming personality with people he interacts with. He translates this well into his superhero work, being easy to approach and disarming even to some of the most hardened criminals. Through this he feels himself better suited in a "support" role for his allies, staying in the back making sure they're kept on their feet through the electromagnetic fields generated from his energy transference abilities. Very rarely does he get cold with a person, and even when he does he warms up really quickly after the fact. He's usually not one to start a fight unless the person absolutely deserves it.

Powers

As Static Shark, Garret is capable of manipulating the electromagnetic energy present around him, and through the experiment having gone rampant is able to generate a constant field of this energy to fuel his abilities. Through manipulation of particles he is capable of transferring these energies from one target to a selective group of people around him - mainly, his allies and comrades. Through his manipulation of the electricity around him he's also capable of directing those currents as kinetic blasts condensed into generation fields on his gauntlets, to help concentrate them properly.

This manipulation of the electricity around him has also granted Garret the capability of controlled and sustained super-sonic flight.
