Adrian Jimenez was a rising star in the world of Martial Arts competition. He was one of the country's best adolescent practitioners of Kenjutsu and Iaido as well as a world-class Eskrima competitor. During the first Rikti invasion, an alien ship crashed into Adrian's neighborhood in Kings Row and spread it's chemical and biological contents across the area (it is now known to have been a type of Rikti medical shuttle). Although almost everyone else died from the exposure, Adrian survived and discovered that his injures from the crash had healed incredibly quickly rather than leaving him dead or crippled and scarred. No longer being able to compete in martial arts - superpowered individuals are barred from tournaments - Adrian adopted the swordwolf persona to protect his old home from future threats and to avenge his loved ones who died in the war.
