Technomagus
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
History
Mason Blake was a genius child. He was so brilliant in fact he was recruited into a private brain trust at the tender age of seven. He was immediately isolated from anyone without a vested interest in the company. His parents were more then willing to go along with this thanks to a very convincing handler( Dominique Devile) and a large monthly deposit in their bank account. His handler kept him pumped full of stimulants and praise while surrounded by the best tutors available in nanotechnology and advanced robotics.
The enormous pressures placed on Mason by the investors to live up to the expectations of his promised potential and a near pathological need to please his handler eventually proved too much for the child prodigy. Ignoring safety in favor of potential results for his latest batch of nanites resulted in the accident that cost him his arm and the destruction of millions of dollars in company equipment.
The company quickly came to the decision to write the prodigy off as a loss at the age of twelve. His handler was reassigned and left for her next prodigy without a backwards glance. He was then deposited in a company funded mental institution happily signed in by his parents who were eager to start their new company jobs (given for their cooperation).
Mason languished in the institution for awhile where he was pumped full of drugs as he was deemed to valuable for his knowledge of company projects to be discharged. He may have been only suffering from “mental exhaustion” when he was admitted, but his treatment by the staff and abandonment by his handler began to twist his young mind. His twisting logic eventually came to blame society for caring more about what they pay for their purchases and not the treatment of those who created and built the product.
With a renewed sense of purpose he eventually escaped and set about selling his services to the highest bidder. His status as an escaped mental patient and age made this difficult and he was forced to be less then discriminating in the jobs he took. In time he was able to pull together enough jobs to purchase what he was unable to steal and build himself a mechanical arm and his first robotic minion. He also discovered during this period of time some of the nanites, meant for tissue regeneration he had been working prior to his accident, had managed to survive using his body as a host and were only lacking a control system. So he built one into his new arm as well as the materials for their replication.
Mason uses his nanite swarms to heal himself and his allies while using robotic minions for enforcement. Now Mason has assumed a new identity as Technomagus and has already begun to make his mark on the Rogue Isles.
