PERSONALITY

Phoebe Phillips prefers quiet to chattiness, but she will speak up with her opinion without asking if she feels strongly about something. She seems to have a connection with animals, as they naturally gravitate toward her. She dislikes computer technology; she is not ignorant about it, simply believes it dumbs down humans and is especially resentful of the clockwork. As far as humans go, she prefers intellect and resourcefulness to those with brute strength as she has already graduated college at the age of 17. She has a surprisingly wicked sense of humor and a few hidden talents.

POWERS

Dual Blades:
Phoebe's father trained her in multiple styles of martial arts: Tahtib, Krav Maga, Sinawali, Florentine, Fencing, and Ninjitsu. Phoebe is well-versed in swordsmanship and deadly to confront in combat. Whether her father was training her for protection or to become a lethal assassin, his intentions remain unclear. However, he bequeathed his blades to her on their last day together.

Intangibility:
Phoebe is a biokinetic, meaning she has a way of controlling her density by dissipating her molecular structure in order to stay out of sight. To the eye, her transformation appears as though she is turning into sand particles via a small dust devil. Her father has attributed this ability with some sort of mysticism, and refers it as "hiding behind the Veil" as her mother was once able to do.

FRIENDS

  • Geomace - "She seems like a typical teenage girl to me. Other than the big rock hammer that is."
  • Hecat - "Much more suited to my taste in people. Much calmer than the rest of the group."
  • Hexwrench - "I hate technology and here this guy is basically in love with it!"
  • Infyyrno - "Sometimes being a hothead can be valuable, but most of the time, it just gets in the way of clear thinking."
  • Subdue - "I don't know her very well, but I like the way she fights."
  • Tim Pulse - "Ah, the naive one. Well he may think everything is A-OK in Cole-Town, but I think he's in for a rude awakening."
  • Turbulent - "His name suits him perfectly. If he quit letting his ego get in his way, maybe he could accomplish something."
  • Vibe -

HISTORY

Phoebe Phillips was blessed with a life of privilege, growing up in Four Gables. She lived with her father Kingston Phillips, widower of Sorrow Phillips. Regardless of his elevated status on Cole's Senate and his close working ties with Praetor Sinclair, the Phillips wealth grew from Kingston's family line, which allowed for private tutelage for his daughter. He not only taught her of the world that once existed outside of Imperial City, but he honed her combat skills with fencing and sparring and nurtured her ability to dissipate into thin air. With the education she received at home, she enrolled with the university. At age 13, she was the youngest student to enroll in the Cultural Direction Education Center, and then later became the youngest to graduate.

She did not have many friends as her focus remained on her academics rather than social interactions. She didn't mind as much. She enjoyed her self-solitude lifestyle. She often spent her free afternoons on Tiberian Bluff at the gazebo reading books her dad had given her. Lately she found herself staring into the vast forests engulfing the neighboring coast. She fantasized more and more of the world that once was, and wondered if the world was truly lost to the Devouring Earth. More so, she found herself questioning if the sonic fences were really to keep the Devouring Earth away or to keep everyone trapped inside.

One evening as she returned home, Phoebe heard her father arguing with two men behind the locked door of his study. His tone worried her more than his concern that they should not have come to their house. After they had left, her father sat her down for a talk that they "should have had a long time ago". He revealed that Kingston Phillips was not his real name. He used it to keep them safe from Cole Loyalists once he took his throne. He said his name is Imad Malak, and explained that he and her mother were once freedom fighters turned vigilantes. Over the years, Emperor Cole hunted down all opposition, and his men captured and murdered her mother. After reestablishing himself under his new identity, her father worked his way into the Cole regime in order to feed information to the Resistance and exact his revenge. He provided Phoebe with her mother's old attire and her mantle. He also gave her the weapons he once used. His last words to her were: "A scirocco is blowing in. This is the day I have been training you for. You are ready." He kissed her on the forehead and gave her a note addressed to her.

The note instructed her to meet the next day in the Magisterium courtyard, and she accepted her fate. She arrived as the other eight had. All of them were her age and of different walks of life. Yet she felt strangely connected to each of them as if she were part of a greater puzzle that was taking form. They had assisted Praetor White in rescuing some of the Praetorian Police, and it felt amazing. She raced home afterwards to share the news with her father only to find him being dragged from their house bloodied and beaten. Cole had finally found him. She hid from his men careful not to be seen. She would wait until the raid was finished and would gather her things. She could no longer stay here, and her father was already a dead man. She felt hopeless. At that moment she knew her family was with the other eight now, and it was time for her to embrace her future.
