Karo is prince of the hidden realm of Lemuria, and possesses superhuman abilities thanks to his Lemurian biology. History

Karo Mar-Lemurius was born in 491 AD in Tritonius, the capital of Lemuria, to King Amitu and Queen Sarai. Being the first born child and according to the traditions of the Mar-Lemurius royal bloodline, Karo was declared crown prince and heir to the throne of Lemuria at birth. He had nothing short of an idyllic childhood, being the treasured son of both his mother and father. He received the customary tutelage of Lemurian royalty, starting training in swimming, combat, and other pursuits from an early age.

During the Great Swim, the customary ceremony signifying the coming of age of a royal Lemurian, it was discovered that he possessed the Gift of Tides, a mythical and ethereal force from Lemurian mythology. With this great power from the gods themselves, he was chosen as the protector of the Current - the magical gateway in the Challenger Deep that leads to his homeland.

Karo grew up to become the greatest warrior in Lemuria and his name became legendary, For hundreds of years, he remained in Lemuria, battling various threats that arose from the dark ocean depths, and preventing the great sea monsters of his homeland from passing through the Current. After the birth of his brother and sister, Karo took a more active role in the court of Lemuria and assisted in their early training, when not battling the threats of the ocean depths.

When the dark goddess Tiamat, ruler of the abyssal depths, used her magics to shatter the protective wards around the Current, she sent forth the terrible leviathans to terrorize the oceans of Primal Earth. Driven to uphold his duty, Karo followed and took up the mantle of 'Trident' - a valiant protector of the oceans, and hated foe of the evils from the abyss.

Personality

Karo is first and foremost a warrior, and his personality reflects that. Above all, he is courageous and honorable, though these values can lead to headstrong behavior. In his early years, he was brash and reckless, but many hundreds of years of experience have tempered him into a more level-headed individual. Still, the fervor of battle can cause some of his old tendencies to surface.

Despite his usual demeanor, Karo is famous for his furious temper. When roused to anger, it has been said that only a hurricane can match his fury. Though he strives to only unleash his anger when absolutely necessary, slights to his honor or threats against those close to him can cause it to surface.

Given his position as protector of the Current, Karo has a fierce protective streak, both of Lemuria and Earth, believing it to be a place worthy of protection. He can be overzealous in his charge, and will not hesitate to outright challenge those who oppose him, even if it may not be the wisest course of action when faced with an enemy of great power.

Powers

  • Lemurian Biological Adaptation

Lemurians are an ancient race that are biologically adapted to the deep ocean environment. They are able to breathe underwater, endure the pressures of the deep, and can only spend a very limited time out of water. Karo also possesses superhuman levels of strength, endurance, and durability, all as a result of his body being adapted to survive in the crushing pressures of the ocean depths. His royal Lemurian blood heightens his abilities beyond those of other Lemurians, making him both superhuman and super-Lemurian.

    • Amphibious Nature

Karo, as a Royal Lemurian, can breathe underwater and on land. He can be immersed indefinitely without suffering ill-effects but being super-Lemurian due to his pure royal blood, he can survive on land longer than average Lemurians. This length can be extended by the humidity in the atmosphere but eventually prolonged dehydration will weaken him thus he must return to an aquatic environment at various periods.

    • Enhanced Sight

His ability to see in the murky depths of the ocean allows him exceptional night vision while on land. His eyes are adapted to see at 6,000 fathoms, or 36,000 feet below the surface.

    • Enhanced Hearing

Karo’s hearing is several times more acute than humans.

    • Enhanced Smell

Karo’s sense of smell is several times more acute than humans.

    • Superhuman Strength

Karo possesses superhuman strength approximately 150 times the capability of a normal human. He can easily handle barriers such as wood, metals, bricks, or concrete walls. Extremely durable metals will slow him down for a period of time. He surpasses the strength of normal Lemurians, who are able to lift approximately 2 tons. His strength also increases depending on how hydrated he is, and can lift greater amounts when underwater.

    • Superhuman Stamina

Karo possesses strength and stamina that allows him to swim up to 150 mph for at least a 4 hour period without any significant breaks for rest or recuperation.

    • Superhuman Durability

Karo’s enhanced physiology enables him to withstand impacts that would kill an ordinary human, and critically injure a normal Lemurian. He has been in the ocean depths as deep as 20,000 feet below the surface, and can travel up to 36,000 feet below the surface. He is not completely durable against heavy firearms, but is able to withstand hits from small firearms.

    • Superhuman Speed

Karo’s regular speed is approximately 150 mph underwater, and slightly less on the surface.

    • Superhuman Reflexes

Karo’s reflexes are almost 10 times that of a normal human. He is considered to be one of the world's greatest swimmers.

    • Superhuman Equilibrium

Karo possesses an acute sense balance several times greater than a human or normal Lemurian.

  • Gift of Tides

Karo possesses unique powers that stem from his connection to the Gift of Tides, an ethereal force from ancient Lemurian myth. The Gift of Tides is said to only be gifted to a Lemurian who possesses a great destiny, usually chosen from among Lemuria's greatest warriors. Karo is the first Lemurian in over 1,000 years to possess the Gift, and it cannot be taken away by any mortal means once it is given. Karo has a number of additional powers that separate him from other Lemurians.

    • Hydrokinesis

The Gift bestowed Karo with the ability to manipulate, control, and reshape the element of water. He can shape the water into any object of his choice, limited only by the extent of his imagination. He does not need to be in contact with a water source, as he draws from the mystical source of the Gift. While he has no control over ice, he can manipulate the temperature of the water, ranging from bitter cold to searing hot.

    • Atmokinesis

Along with hydrokinesis, the Gift of Tides granted him the ability to control all forms of weather, whether or not the weather is naturally in that state. He can also incite all forms of meteorological tempests, such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, and hurricanes. His precise control over the atmosphere allows him to create effects that do not naturally occur.

    • Electrokinesis

Karo is also able to generate and control concentrated electricity, though it is more limited than his control over sea and storms. He can shape the electricity to be used as offensive attacks in battle, trap enemies, or shield himself from attacks.

    • Flight

Because of his control and connection to the atmosphere, Karo is able to manipulate the air currents around his body, allowing him to fly at high altitudes and speeds.

    • Marine Telepathy

Karo has the ability to communicate directly with all marine life, and can emphatically feel their primal emotions. He is able to see through their eyes and call for assistance, although he does not force it upon them if they refuse. He primarily communicates with sharks and other large marine predators.

    • Extended Longevity

Karo ages much slower than normal Lemurians as a result of the Gift, although it is not known how long a Lemurian with the Gift can live. He is not immortal, and can still be killed using other means.

    • Aquatic Healing Factor

In the case of injury, Karo possesses a healing factor so long as he is submerged in water.

Abilities

  • Master Swimmer

Karo is a master swimmer and is one of the world's greatest swimmers.

  • Master Combatant

Karo is the greatest and most powerful warrior in Lemuria since Mar-Lemurius, and is one of the most skilled fighters to ever walk the planet. He is a superbly skilled combatant trained in the arts of war and various fighting techniques by Lemurian battlemasters. He is proficient, even masterful in numerous areas of combat, including hand-to-hand and various forms of weaponry available in Lemuria.

  • Multilingual

Karo can speak English, Lemurian, Ancient Greek, and numerous Polynesian languages.

Strength Level

Karo can lift approximately 5 tons while on land, and can lift amounts exceeding 1,000 tons while underwater.

Weaknesses

  • Water Deprivation

Karo must return to water periodically or he will weaken. If he goes too long without water, he becomes as vulnerable as a normal human.

  • Magic

Karo is weak against certain types of magic, especially those drawn from the abyssal depths.

Paraphernalia

Equipment

  • Battle Suit

As Trident, Karo wears a battle suit that is fashioned from a specialized Lemurian polymer made from fish scales and underwater metals. The suit is further enchanted by the magic of the Gift of Tides. If the suit is damaged, it can repair itself if Karo spends a period of time submerged in water.

    • Suit Summoning

Karo can summon the suit to him at-will, which materializes in a brilliant bolt of mystical lightning.
