Ursa Auvergne's creation was pretty basic. She was made with She-Hulk in mind though she's not an homage or clone. The only things she takes from Shulkie is her height (6'7) and one of her powersets (Super Strength). Besides that, Ursa's an amalgam of several of Remianen's (player) cousins who happen to live (or did, pre-Katrina) in the Thibodaux and Kenner areas of Louisiana. But, given her size and her criminal bent, her background just seemed a no-brainer.

Personality

Given her background and struggle for acceptance, Ursa Auvergne is guarded around strangers but incredibly outgoing and gregarious amongst friends.

Powers

Ursa Auvergne's powers center around protective energy combined with her immense physical strength.

Super Strength

Most notable in combat, Ursa Auvergne's sheer power can be awe-inspiring. Her fighting style is straight from the street, with punches thrown mainly to the head, seemingly with the intent to decapitate. What is unusual is the fact that this isn't just intent, it's easily possible.

Energy Aura

With time, training and focus, Ursa has also learned to channel her energy manipulative abilities to heighten her reflexes, making her harder to hit. She has also managed to focus enough to create an aura that protects her from negative status. Thus, her surface density is increased to such a degree as to make it almost impossible for her to lose her balance. This level of focus also makes her largely immune to attacks designed to shut down mental processes.

Leaping

Her power seems not confined to the violent sphere. She has repeatedly exhibited the ability to span great distances simply by leaping.

Character History

Ursula Devereaux was born into a devoutly Christian multicultural family. Her parents were transplanted Bible belters who relocated to Louisiana for a better life. What worse way to punish their devotion than to have them give birth to a blue-skinned freak? Immediately upon her birth, Cornelius and Sarah Devereaux found their marriage disintegrating. "The Blame Game" became a daily family exercise. When she was 4, her parents decided to fix the problem by putting her up for adoption. The child, having grown up in such a contentious environment, was quiet, reserved, almost insulated emotionally. While in the care of the state's Child Protective Services branch, she first became aware she was 'different' at the age of 7. Lifting a bureau full of clothing to retrieve her Garbage Pail Kids card that had fallen behind it, required nothing approaching a strenuous effort.

When she was 12, and it became obvious no one wanted a blue-skinned little girl, she ran away from the boarding house. This began a descent into the underbelly of society. Moving from city to city in nomadic fashion, she left a trail of unsolved crimes in her wake. Always hiding her outward appearance through makeup and clever use of disguises, she avoided falling into patterns which make lazy cops effective.

Her world began to unravel one day when, performing a simple smash and grab on an ATM machine, she suffered a rather large electrical shock, sufficient to render her unconscious (the voltage involved would have fried an unpowered civilian, electrocution would've been the best case scenario). When she awoke, she was strapped to a gurney in the bowels of the Zig. Immediately alarmed by her blue skin, authorities treated her as if she was powered even before confirming this as fact.

Tried and convicted of grand larceny, destruction of private property, and operating powers in unregistered fashion, she was sentenced to 8 years in prison. Authorities in other jurisdictions also tried to tie similar crimes to her, with little success. Months after sentencing, she watched the news footage of Statesman's Strike and seethed.

Months later, Arachnos attacked Zigursky in an attempt to extract a handful of criminals believed to be the "Destined Ones" their mystics had foreseen would tip the scales in Arachnos's war against Paragon City. One of those individuals, was Ursula Devereaux, now operating under the moniker Ursa Auvergne. Taking her name from a long extinct species of bear seemed fitting.

Shortly after arriving at Mercy Island, it's believed she hooked up with several people she had met "in the joint" and formed the villain group known as Urban Avarice.
