Personality

Very "Emo" in his outward appearance and actions, Woe's Child was naive, artistic, and shy. He was very quiet and usually only allowed his inner thoughts to be expressed through poetry. Woe's Child was a true "support" character, who would rather follow than lead in any situation. His choice to become a hero was guided solely by his wish to make those around him happy and safe.

Powers

Soul Trapped Gem

Around Woe's neck hung a gem of immense power. No one knows for sure where this gem came from, and Woe would only say that he had always had it. Woe drew his powers from this gem. The more Woe grew used the gem, the more the gem would recede into his chest until it became physically apart of the boy's biology. As this metamorphose progressed, black stains grew from under his eyes, until eventual they covered his entire body.

The Gem's Powers

The gem gave Woe's Child the ability to control weather and electricity.

The Trapped Soul

The gem's powers came from the ancient soul of a powerful warlock named Jacob Woe who had been imprisoned in the gem by a coven of witches from the colony of Roanoke Virginia. Jacob Woe would speak to Woe's Child telling him that everyone was against him and that life was a cold harsh place, while offering him protection and advice. Jacob Woe's intent was to gain the boy's confidence until Jacob had enough power to possess the boy. Then Jacob would trap Woe's soul in the gem while setting his own soul free.

History

Woe's Child grew up on the streets of Steel Canyon. His only possession was a rare gem that seemed to glow with mystical power. The gem guided him with advice and protected him from the gangs and villains of Paragon by hiding him in mist and striking out at those who threatened him with blasts of electricity. The gem told Woe's Child that the world around him was a dangerous and harmful place and convinced Woe's Child that he was his only friend. However, Woe's Child did have another friend, an ally-cat named Raven who accompanied Woe's Child and gave him comfort when he felt alone.

Then one day when Woe's Child shoplifted an apple from a street cart, he was caught in the act by a young hero named Juvie who offered him shelter and a safe place to learn about his powers by joining The Artful Dodgers. In the process Woe's Child registered as a hero and began to grow in power and confidence while defending his new friends.

Woe's Farewell Note

Just when Woe's Child was showing progress in controlling his powers and gaining confidence, he decided to runaway from The Artful Dodgers. This upset his friends and threw the supergroup into turmoil. No one knew where he went, or why.

The soul trapped in Woe's Child's gem felt threatened by Woe's new confidence and friendships and decided to accelerate the possess in which he planed to possess the boy. In a few short weeks, Woe's Child returned to The Artful Dodgers but he had dramatically changed. He was now more powerful and more confident then he had ever been before for Woe's Child's had become possessed by Jacob Woe; a powerful warlock that had been trapped in the gem by a coven of witches from the colony of Roanoke Virginia. While the poor boys soul was forced to take the warlock's place within the gem.

Over time, The Artful Dodgers realized that their friend was possessed of the evil soul and they took it upon themselves to free Woe from his possession. The process almost killed Woe's Child, but in the end, Jacob Woe was defeated and once again trapped. This time in a gem that had been encrusted upon a sword.

Now Woe wields this cursed sword and calls himself Woe's Keeper, in order to prevent Jacob Woe from ever possessing another soul.
