It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.

History

Z'lunan has lived for what humans would describe as many lifetimes, so this section will deal with only the important sections of her personal history, and not go into great detail about other information such as her homeworld or the empire.

Note: For the sake of human readers, time will be translated from Yuvanian to a rough estimate in Human years.

Youth

Z'lunan was born 161 years ago on the planet of Rinator, part of the Yuvanian Empire, near the fringe of it's territory. An important planet for the Empire due to it's resources, military presence was high, and surrounded her for most of her childhood. Propaganda was common, and like so many yuvanian youth, she was inspired. She later moved with her parents to another planet where the sight of armed soldiers was not so common, but the patriotism left in her mind would stay with her for life. Her parents tried to coerce her into a more feminine line of work; this only strengthened her resolve as well as slowly begin her increasingly negative relationship with her parents. When she was 14 (2 Yuvanian) years old, she eagerly struck out on her own. She studied medicine and became a work-at-home doctor for only a couple years. When news of the attack on Rinator reached her, patriotism held a firm grip and she immediately joined the military.

Joining the military as a yuvanian is a lifetime commitment, as such the training required is much longer and more intense than what humans are accustomed to. The training lasts for several human decades; By the time one passes, they are a machine built for war. Z'lunan joined at the beginning of a rebellion taking place, it would be over well before she was completed. Being dominated by males, much like the human fighting forces on Earth, made the training fields difficult for Z'lunan, being one of only a dozen or so females in a school of over five-hundred males. There were threats made, some of them acted upon, but she proved herself time and time again with her refusal to quit and determination to be treated as an equal. Halfway through the training process, recruits get their chance to decide what path they will walk in the military. Using her background as a doctor, field medic was an obvious choice. When she completed her training, all those standing next to her regarded her as an equal without question. Some would even owe her their lives in the coming years.

Warfare

Shortly after completing her training, hell broke loose across her galaxy. Though the Yuvanian Empire controlled half of the galaxy, it was not the only presence, three other space faring empires held the other half. After centuries of uneasy truce, the three empires allied their forces together and mounted an invasion against the Yuvanian Empire, calling themselves the Alliance of Gor. Z'lunan was shipped out immediately to the front lines with several hundred brigades-worth of soldiers. The following are notable events from her tour of duty in war:

Sector 743 Planet Filist: Ran across the battlefield seven times under heavy fire to retrieve fallen soldiers to administer medical care.

Sector 399 Planet Rinator: Took the neutrino bolt of an attempted assassination of a senior officer. Was off the field for six months to recover.

Sector 237 Open Space: Administered medical care to those on board the Cirtar cruiser during the Battle of the Blue Star. Stayed behind to ensure all crew members boarded espace pods safely, and was one of the last to depart.

Sector 399 Planet Rinator: Disarmed a neutrino explosive in a highly populated city when it was learned that the bomb crew would not arrive on time. Was hospitalized due to heavy radiation exposure for three weeks due to the nature of the explosive.

Sector 287 Planet Ophisin: Endured a two year siege on the planet. Treated wounded soldiers daily in adverse and often turbulent conditions.

The Gil' Mar

After her actions through the conflict she rose quickly in rank and was eventually recruited to train for the Gil' Mar, an elite fighting force made for various, often dangerous tasks that the main military could not handle alone. Such accomplishments of the Gil' Mar have been notable in Yuvani history, including the destruction of two planets, and repelling a siege while outnumbered by several times their number. The training to become a Gil' Mar Operative is even more unforgiving than the basic military routine. They are only allowed three hours of sleep each day, and the training lasts for over a year's time. By the end, those training are running on willpower alone. She was one of four that passed; The class count was over two-hundred. She was now heavily recognized among her race; the Gil' Mar are much like celebrities, and were given high respect. Were her parents alive, they may have recanted their judgment over her chosen lifestyle.

Z'lunan would go on to participate in several missions with her team, and would come to form a bond with them above any military calling. Each time someone was lost, it tore at her mind greatly, leading to several bouts of depression. This was common among Gil' Mar, as they treated each other like family. This made her most recent task as a Gil' Mar Operative that much more difficult; She had to hunt one of her own. A fallen Gil' Mar captured by the enemy had defected, sharing many military secrets and positions in return for promises of power and a life of luxury. It fell to her squad to retrieve, and if need be, eliminate him. However, the former operative predicted this well in advance, and a trap was set.
