The mysterious assassin known only as Zeroed has been described as 'lacking finesse'. Then again, nuclear bombs have been described as 'kind of loud', and the universe as 'pretty big'.

Who the Cage Consortium is planning to send a message to is unknown, but it's doubtful they brought her in to handle striking workers down at the docks.

The Wonder Years

Johann Brauer and Marie Strauss grew up in Leipzig under the communist rule in East Germany, although it was much later in life that they would meet. Both were exceptional and given every chance to prove themselves as the communist ideal.

Johann graduated from high school at the age of 15 and emerged from university at 20 with PhD's in genetics and chemistry. He moved to Dresden to work on a government research project aimed at creating perfect soldiers for the inevitable war with America. Johann was indeed brilliant, but his ethical deficiencies gave even the cold communist government pause, and in the end he was removed from the project and stuck in a pharmaceutical lab to make better aspirin.

Marie was a gifted athlete and musician with a head for business. She competed in international competitions for East Germany, dominating the competition until she was permanently banned for banned substances. Despite the international shame, she soon made amends as she transitioned into the business sector. The companies she worked with soon doubled their efficiency, and soon she began moving around the country consulting with various government agencies.

The two would meet shortly after Johann's demotion, as Marie toured the facility looking for improvements. She immediately saw his wasted potential and soon the two were leading the small institute to something bigger and better. In the early eighties they were married, and soon after Marie gave birth to their first and only child, Lena.

While they never spoke of it with their daughter, Johann and Marie had been using themselves as test subjects for Johann's better serums for years. Faster, stronger, smarter, better: they had passed this all down to their daughter. Keeping the energetic youngster hidden from the eyes of their communist masters took much of their vast resources and power.

The fall of communism was a great boon for the couple, and soon they forged a pharmaceutical giant amongst the former Eastern bloc. While Brauer Pharmaceuticals has left much of Europe and North America alone, it developed a strong presence in many of the countries formerly controlled by, or allied with Soviet Russia. The corporation grew, and they became wealthy and powerful far beyond all dreams of two soviet children.

The dream would end for the two shortly after Lena's seventeenth birthday. Their daughter had gained more than just physical and mental prowess as a result of her parents experimentation: she had also been born with a powerful mutation. Lena Brauer was born with the ability to siphon energy from other living things, making herself better as a result.

During a car ride home from a dinner party, the three began to argue. As things became more and more heated, Lena began to lash out with her power, draining the life right out of both parents. She survived the crash with nary a scratch, and inherited an empire worth billions. Still a minor, she appointed her parents' friend and lawyer 'Uncle' Niklas Eichmann to manage the company in her stead.

Power, wealth, freedom, young Lena had it all, yet she wanted something else. Excitement that parties, and boys, and drugs, and all the money in the world couldn't buy her. Something she hadn't felt since that night in the car, as she murdered her parents. Hiring people to train her, she soon entered the murky world of 'professional' mercenaries. She was a natural. It wasn't long before she had made a name for herself, although not her own. They called her the Red Devil, for her bright red hair and body armour.

And when she tired of the often dull mercenary work, she entered into business as a contract killer. She called herself 'Zeroed' after the manner in which she left her targets, and everything else nearby. Her powers gave her a powerful edge, and her guns, knives and explosives made her a legend.

Among assassins there is a great variety of modus operandi. Some work with knives or poison. Some prefer guns or bombs. Some are ninjas striking from silence and darkness, and still others make it look like the victim died of an accident. Lena is a rare, if not unique member of the assassin fraternity, in that she employed almost no finesse at all. She would simply burst in on the target and gun him down, and everyone else around for good measure. She is a wrecking ball tuning pianos.

Lena is currently based out of Berlin where she lives and keeps an eye on her company. She rarely gets involved, and everyone involved is thankful for that. Eichmann has shown incredible business acumen and has grown the company and Lena's fortunes both. As one of only a handful of people who know the truth about Lena, it is in his best interests to keep her happy.

Tools of the Trade

Lena is essentially a vampire. Not in the traditional blood sucking sense, but she nonetheless feeds off of other human's life energy. It is unknown if this is a compulsion, a desire, or a necessity. It is known among a select few that while Lena doesn't need to drain a victim to death for what she needs, she most often does.

The effect of this siphoning is immediately apparent. Lena becomes faster, stronger, healthier, tougher, and just plain better. When coupled with the fact that she is already better in nearly every way than normal a human being, she becomes terrifying to her victims. Her wounds heal instantly, she never tires, and she moves almost too fast to see.

Lena, even with this terrible gift, is not satisfied simply with killing her victims in this manner. Her preferred weapon is the HK45 pistol, loaded with a variety of terrifying ammunition provided by black market contacts. Sophisticated body armour, knives, explosives, and all manner of hi-tech gadgets provide further advantages to a young woman already ahead of the curve in close quarters combat.
