The Boy
Hopelessly naive and innocent, young Rey Akasha makes an unlikely superhero. His mother, Dr. Karen Akasha, is a brilliant scientist and inventor, and his father was a heroic soldier. When Rey was still too young to clearly remember, the laboratory where his mother worked was attacked by the Devouring Earth, and his father, along with the other troops stationed at the facility, gave his life to ensure that his wife and child escaped.
After this tragedy, Dr. Akasha immigrated to the United States to start a new life for herself and her young son. As one would expect, she kept her apron strings tied tightly around Rey, who grew up sheltered from some of the harsher realities of the world. Yes, he was happy, friendly and sweet to his mother, but he was hardly the epitome of manliness.
The Hero
Things began to change around the time Rey entered high school. Dr. Akasha's research into what she dubbed "super-photons" led to the invention of her MK I Speed Suit. Although she was forced to abandon testing when the suit's inadequate support started giving her back trouble, young Rey started using it behind her back. At first he just used the suit's powers to impress the kids at school, but soon he began using his quick, if clumsy, fighting skills to battle petty criminals--even the girliest of punches can hurt at seventy miles per hour, after all! Of course, once Dr. Akasha found out about her son's adventures, she gave him a good spanking and forbad him to continue his novice heroing.
Although Rey obeyed his mother at first, he found himself in a dilemma one night when one of his female friends from school called him for help. Her boyfriend was drunk and threatening her, and she could think of nobody else to turn to but their school's amateur hero. As much as it pained him to defy his mother's orders, Rey snuck out behind her back and managed to race to his friend's aid in time. When he confessed what he had done to his mother, she finally realized that she couldn't keep her boy from growing up forever, and agreed to let him register with the FBSA as the high-speed hero... Accelion!
The Tech
The Accelion Speed Suit MK II is a liquid metal framework covered by a mesh of super-photons. These amazing quasi-particles reduce friction around the wearer and partially nullify one's inertia, allowing movement at speeds beyond what a normal human is capable of. The first Accelion suit was activated by a computer program, but since then Dr. Akasha has written a smaller version that can be run on cell phones by shouting the activation code, "Clock up! Accelion!"
The Super-Photonic sword Accelion wields uses the same principles of inertia dampening to create a lightweight sword with an infinitely sharp edge. Even someone with no training can inflict massive damage on his opponents with it. (Thankfully the suit renders its wearer immune to any damage from the sword...)
The Annotations
- Despite his slender body and pretty features, Accelion is 100% boy. He does not enjoy having people mistake him for a girl or accuse him of posing as one.
- In spite of that, he was partially inspired by the delicious brown traps Loran Cehack (Turn A Gundam) and Bud Renard (Patlabor).
- Dr. Akasha still doesn't like her son staying out late on school nights, so she will occasionally suit up to fight crime in his place. The suit itself is registered under the name "Accelion", so that is also the name she uses in her super-hero guise.
