Anisah's Life

Forgotten From the Start

Born sometime in December of 1987, Anisah was a unwanted from the second she took her first breath. Her parents never wanted a child. Nor did they wish to spend any money on another life, even if it was one they had created. Their income was to go to support their substance habits, and there would be no change in that. And so, an infant with no say in her own destiny was wrapped in a blanket and left on the steps of an orphanage in Sharkhead Isle.

She spent her time as a child daydreaming of adulthood. Of doing good for the people of Paragon someday. Quiet, shy, and awkward, she was picked on and teased mercilessly, only sending her even deeper into her own mind. Eight years of emotional abuse and being overlooked by prospective families, and never once did she retaliate. She stood silent and took it all without complaint.

Then one night, she disappeared.

Torn to Pieces

Wrapped in a scarf and a set of worn pajamas, Anisah took to the streets. She stole a pair of shoes and a set of clothes and began building a safe haven for herself in the caves along the shore. Her industrious nature was finally being put to good use. Doing what she had to to keep herself alive, she begged, borrowed and stole from anyone and everyone she could, never making any friends, always staying under the radar.

For six years it was more of the same. She established herself a little shack on the beach and lived prosperously in her solitude, albeit by unlawful ways. But as a young teenager, she began to get sloppy in her activities, and failed to notice she wasn't the only straggler on the island...

And the others were watching her.

Before Anisah knew it, she was drawn into this pack of strays, easily swayed by the temptations of a better life and the possibility of making friends. She did what she had always done when in a social setting. Clammed up and kept quiet. But the ache of making friends was too strong for her to ignore, and when she spotted a young man amongst the group who was very much like herself, she made an attempt at befriending him. She approached him cautiously and offered the simplest introduction, "Hi... I'm Anisah." He stared at her a few seconds and grunted, "Dominic." Her move toward friendship failed to an extent, never fully trusting one another or letting the other in too much. They did look out for each other as best they could though. This was all new to Anisah, and she was ecstatic.

Then everything came crashing down on top of her.

Dominic came to her one day, beaten and bleeding, and handed her a small chip. "Stole it from Crey. I thought maybe you might wanna use it. Supposed to help you disappear." She was stunned and declined. She wanted no part in theft from a corporate giant that would undoubtedly come looking for their stolen goods. Dominic was livid, and in an outburst of rage he lunged at her. She fought back... And she won. Brokenhearted about the event, she buried Dominic and kept the chip as a souvenir. Nobody knew why, including Anisah, but she did it just the same.

Shortly after meeting Dominic, Anisah had been introduced to a very well dressed man who appeared to be in his late twenties. His name was Alex Burgess, surgeon for Crey Corp. For whatever reason, Dr. Burgess was intrigued by Anisah, and was the only person in her life who had ever made an attempt to get to know her. He wasn't around often, but when he was, they spent all of their time together. He took her out to eat at restaurants, something she had never gotten to do. He took her shopping, which was a far cry from the petty theft she was accustomed to. Anisah, against everything within her, finally allowed herself to trust somebody. A mistake she would never make again.

One warm summer night, when she was just sixteen, Dr. Burgess snuck into her little shack on the beach, drugged her, and took her back to his lab. While she was under, he took the chip that Dominic had stolen and implanted it into her brain through her right eye. What Burgess hadn't told her was he wasn't a Crey surgeon at all. He had been fired shortly after becoming employed by Crey for falsifying his doctorate. In reality, he could perform surgery about as well as a five-year-old with ADD. Regardless, he finished the surgery, and knowing his own lack of skill, Burgess took what he thought was a dying Anisah to the beach and left her there to be washed away with the tide.

But Anisah woke up. And she remembered everything.

Beginning Again

Back into isolation Anisah went. She nursed herself back to health and played with her new implant, trying to figure out what it did and how it could benefit her. She became a firm believer in 'making lemonade when life gives you lemons', and although even more socially inept than before, she had a new optimism after surviving that she used to her advantage. She paid a visit to a doctor to get herself prescriptions for her new behavioral problems post surgery and a medical marijuana card to help with the pain of the improperly installed implants in her brain. She fashioned herself a pair of gloves fitted with spring loaded blades to better protect herself and began to venture out into the world once more, moving to Nerva Archipelago away from most of society and making most of her moves at night.

She meandered in to Pocket D one night, her new implant keeping her hidden from view. As she made her way up the steps to the blue bar, she felt a pang in her head, not uncommon since the botched surgery, and accidently came into view. She held herself up on the railing and when she opened her now only functioning eye, she was met with the picture of somebody equally as scarred and battered as herself. It was Orion. They spoke briefly, and he offered her a place to stay and work with the antique shop Finders Keepers. She accepted.

Over the months, she and Orion spoke more in depth, and it became more and more apparent at how similar their lives were. It took time, but Anisah, after six years of hatred and distrust for humanity, finally allowed herself to trust again.

A roof over her head, her old scarf over her face, and a group of people backing her, she began to research and track Dr. Burgess. Much to her dismay, she found out more about him than she had expected. He had been doing these surgeries to more and more young homeless women like herself, luring them in and then cutting them up just for fun. As his first guinea pig, Anisah had a strong urge to find him and take him out. She felt somehow, it was her responsibility.

"I'll be damned if more girls have to live the pathetic life I have because of this man."

She's on the hunt, and war is coming.

The Next Chapter

After spending time mulling over her impending confrontation with Doctor Burgess, Anisah ventured out into Mercy again. It was an attempt to try and clear her mind and calm herself down. While getting ready to do a job, she cautiously asked somebody nearby if he'd be willing to help her with it. He turned out to be Barnabas LeVite, ex-leader of ARSOC and Arachnos fugitive. He gave her a Nightwidow uniform and went in with her. She quickly realized that he might not be such a bad guy, and although their encounter was brief, she saw similarities between him and Orion, and it found it easier to do her job with him there.

Her stint undercover was brief. The more she saw, the more unstable she became and once again, she dropped off of the radar. Little did most know, it was not only to heal herself mentally, but to have her scarred face reshaped into what it once was before Burgess got ahold of her.

Dr. Carson spent hours in surgery with Anisah, carefully reconstructing the bone structure and eliminating the scars that had for so long left Anisah feeling worthless and ugly. The recovery time took a couple of months, and with her new face, she resumed life as before, this time, armed with a confidence she thought she was incapable of feeling again.

She's now working on her social skills. Since she's not a hideous sight anymore, she feels it's time to make herself more of a friendly person. In an effort to improve her people skills even further, she's planning a move. Paragon is her destination, and in her mind, her future is looking just as bright as the city she'll soon call home.
