I initially made this character to be a farmer, with no intention to RP him. But a set of missions with DJ Angel got his basic background set and personality fleshed out, while getting roped into a really fun story arc. Most of the details are made up on the fly, as I need them in RP situations.

Early Life

Childhood

Born June 18th, 1969 to William and Janice Reynolds, Ian grew up an only child in the small farm town of St. Ansgar, Iowa. He was a quiet child. He spent most of his free time reading and playing with toy dinosaurs. Ian's father owned and worked at a barber shop, while his mother stayed at home. Whenever his father was home, Ian would hear him constantly arguing with his mother. Usually that's all it was, though Ian did see his father strike his mother more than once. His father would also yell at him for breaking any of the strict rules William enforced, and was quick to administer punishment when he felt Ian went too far. Janice would intercede for Ian whenever she could, though William usually ended up punishing Ian anyway. Janice died in a car accident when Ian was 9, leaving just him and his father.

Hitting the Road

About a month after Ian's 18th birthday, he and his father had a heated argument that ended with Ian's father slugging him hard enough to knock him out. After that, Ian decided he couldn't take it anymore. He packed up what little he owned and headed east. Traveling from city to city working odd jobs for cash he eventually found himself in Rhode Island. It was there he saw a group of people gathered around a man in shiny black armor with an odd eye symbol on his chest. Ian was captivated by the man's voice, the passion with which he spoke. Once the man finished and the crowed dispersed Ian had made up his mind. Everything the man said moved him, and he knew where his future lay. He knew the Council was the place for him.

The Council Years

Penumbra

Ian started in the Council Nebula, like all raw recruits, but quickly advanced in the ranks and was promoted to the ranks of Penumbra with in a year of joining. He quickly gained a reputation for brutality and a willingness to get the mission done, whatever the cost. Two years later he was promoted into the Penumbra Elite division with the rank of Adjustant, where he further solidified his reputation, adding loyalty to rival the Vortex to his growing resume.

Cor Leonis

In 1996, as a newly promoted Elite Archon, he commanded a squad in a raid on a hero supergroup base. The raid was a total success, with Ian's unit sustaining only 13 casualties while decimating the heroes. When he brought back several heroes alive, he was commended and promoted to the highest echelon within the Penumbra band, the Cor Leonis. Three more years of brutality and shows of total loyalty and devotion to the Council earned him the command of a modest sized cell of Cor Leonis troops and a special assignment.

Arakhn

Rather than promoting Ian to the ranks of the Vortex, The Center tasked him with a special assignment. The Center was wary of Arakhn and her Galaxy troops, conditioned to be loyal only to her. Arakhn was equally wary, and refused any of the Vortex as part of her garrison. So, The Center gave her Ian Reynolds. His position in the Penumbra band was acceptable to Arakhn, but his loyalty to The Center was solid. Over the next several years Archon Reynolds clashed with Arakhn repeatedly, both openly and covertly. He was The Center's loyal eyes and ears within Arakhn's sect of the Council. Despite their numerous confrontations, his tactical skill and leadership abilities were enough to make her tolerate him. For a while, at least.

Out of Sight

In 2002 Arakhn's patience with Archon Reynolds ran out. After a particularly heated confrontation, she had Reynolds bound and removed his eyes. Arakhn then cauterized the sockets with a red hot iron spike. Ian was fully awake for all of this. She put his eyes in a jar to preserve them, and presumably still keeps them for unknown reasons. Arakhn then arranged for cybernetic replacements, but left his eyelids and tear ducts ruined. The optics caused him great pain while he wore them. He adapted and gained a much higher pain threshold and far less reliance on his sight to function.

On His Own Again

Wandering the City

On February 4th, 2007 his faith in the Council was shattered. Ian refuses to talk about the event to anyone, and does his best to forget the details. With his world turned upside down and shattered, he abandoned the Council and wiped out his base, making it look like a hero raid. Feeling lost and without purpose or direction, he registered as a hero in Paragon City and found someone to craft him less painful optics to replace Arakhn's "gift". He wandered doing odd jobs for contacts until he found himself in Croatoa on a mission assisting Donna Josephine Angelica Peters.

Wings of an Angel

Read the full story of Ian and Angelica here.

Angelica saw he was broken inside. She insisted Ian use her couch instead of the abandoned Council base he was squatting in. Over the next several weeks he worked with her to clean up the city and attended her shows. She tended him, trying to fix the hole inside him. Ian found he did care for Angelica, and she cared for him. They fell in love, and Ian felt complete and happy for the first time in his life. He moved in to her apartment, falling deeper in love every day. Eventually he proposed to her, and she accepted.
