History
((Note from the author: I will reefer to Acciaio while he still is a Lycan. Once he is changed into his cybernetic self, he will be refereed to as Asperitance. And now, he is known as Marith. Also, just about everything here is OOC, as Asperitance/Marith barely remembers anything.))
Pre-Arachnos
Acciaio, the lycan who remains in Asperitance, was born to a homeless woman in the slums of Mercy Island. She had been raped by a rogue werewolf, and had given birth to a lycan. She feared and hated her son, but raised him out of duty. Acciaio’s childhood was harsh. He was friendless due to his lycanthropy, his mother didn’t try to support him, and he never even met his father. Despite his nearly abusive mother, his wolf instincts told him that she was the ‘alpha’ and thusly was to be respected. He also became fiercely protective of her, as she was his only refuge from the pain he received from the outer world.
Acciaio managed to survive, albeit mostly due to his wolf side. Around the age of sixteen, he gained the ability to control his primal blood, and was finally able to assume a human form. However, his mother grew extremely sick, and could no longer work. With no money to support herself, she almost committed suicide, when Acciaio went out for a walk. It was the first real time he had left the home for anything, he didn’t even go to school. He wandered until he was attacked by a group of Hellion gangsters. His feral rage was brought up from the depths of his body and he transformed into the half-man half-beast form that many people identify lycanthropes with. He made a massacre of the ambush, shredding all the Hellions involved to pieces. Once his sanity returned, and he realized what he’d done, he was suddenly extremely guilty. He looked over at a mirror and growled, seeing the dim reflections of Arachnos agents. He glared at them, trying his best not to succumb to the anger that began building. They offered him a job, one within their ranks, and he realized the opportunities presented before him. He accepted without a second’s consideration.
Acciaio the Hunter
Acciaio shot up the ranks of Arachnos, along with this growth in power; he gained a growth in wages. All of his money went directly towards his dying mother, which only prolonged her death. When he visited her one day, he was told that she was going to die, no matter what anyone did about it. Acciaio was beyond furious, and he almost lost himself to his powers. However, he remained intact long enough to escape from the hospital. He suddenly sunk into a deep depression. His performance as a huntsman started falling, his wolf side became more and more distant, and he commonly lost control of himself. He turned to alcohol, murder, and rape to sustain his dwindling sanity. However, even those fixes were only temporary. However, he suddenly snapped out of his depression mid-way through a rape, and immediately tried to kill himself. He was betrayed by Arachnos, who delivered him to the Ziggurat. He was sentenced to life for his many crimes against humanity. After rotting for seven years, Arachnos decided to instill the “Destiny” program. Utilizing this to escape, Acciaio manage to flee. He knew he could not return to Mercy, the Arachnos presence there was too thick. He turned to the one place he knew he could survive, Paragon City. After trying his shot at being a hero, which didn’t work out so well, he resorted to hiding amongst the gangs in the Hollows. He managed to hide for three years when he received a disturbing message from an old friend. It begged him to return to Mercy and help his mother recover. Acciaio returned, only to be trapped by Lord Recluse and Black Scorpion. Black Scorpion had been trying to get his hands on Acciaio since the day he joined Arachnos, but at every turn he was thwarted by the lycan.
Asperitance
Acciaio knew why Black Scorpion wanted him as a subject. His body was much stronger than most humans. It could endure more than just about any ‘normal’ human, which meant he was a perfect subject for someone wanting to create a prototype of a mass-producible cyborg. He heard the news about his mothers passing. With no reason to live, nor a will to, he resigned himself to Black Scorpions methods. However, Black Scorpion also knew that leaving Acciaio’s memories intact would interfere with his usefulness. He convinced Acciaio to visit Lord Recluse, only to be brainwashed into a memory-less, emotion-less minion. From there, Black Scorpion started, and finished, Project: Asperitance.
Acciaio, who now knew his name as Mk.1, survived the years of torture, experimentation, and operations. He came out a bitter, spiteful, and vengeful cyborg minion. Black Scorpion thought he had created his perfect soldier, until Lord Recluse swept it up from under him. Lord Recluse decided that Asperitance would be best used as a weapon against the heroes, not the foolish infighting in Arachnos. Because of this, Asperitance was to be sent to Paragon City. This would prove to be one of his greatest mistakes with his new minion. Upon arriving in Paragon City, Asperitance received a transmission, reminding him he wasn’t bound to Lord Recluse. A small part of Acciaio’s hate for Lord Recluse awakened inside of Asperitance, and he murdered the group of disguised Wolf Spiders who were escorting him to Paragon. After he had dispatched every around him, he became a completely freelance mercenary. He cut himself off from Lord Recluse, and pursued a Heroes career for a while. After the money dried up, however, he was back on the market. Lord Recluse, who now understood that Asperitance had Paragon’s trust, bought the rights to his services. Asperitance hated to work with Lord Recluse again, but he offered more than all the other bidders combined. He covertly took the money and rejoined Arachnos. He met Arbiter Death, who became his overseer in Paragon. Asperitance and the Arbiter had a run in with Melixia, who Asperitance had a growing respect for. He could feel the pure power that radiated from her. This, along with his fondness of her attitude, inspired him to give her a gift of a silver bullet, a sign that he would not attack her. At least, so long as she kept that bullet with her. He also swore to himself that as soon as he was done with Recluse, he would seek her out, if only to protect himself from the Arbiter’s groupies, the Villains of Paragon City. Although Melixia's death shook him a bit, the fact that here bullet was not retrieved angered him, and caused some frustratinos between the Arbiter and him. This, along with his growing love for Arren, inspired the Arbiter to kill Asperitance.
Marith, The Amnesiac Reincarnation
After Asperitance died, his body was retrieved by Arren Starkweather. She performed a burial, of sorts, in Peregrine Island. She for the loss, and removed his cyber eye, his bullets, and his helmet. She hid his helmet in her room at the VoPC base, but keeps the bullets and eye with her at all times. However, Asperitance was still holding onto the last light of life. He was recovered by a mysterious Circle of Thorns group and saved. Asperitance knew that the saving him granted him strange powers, but he also knew that someone had to die for him. He didn't know who, but he still felt apologetic towards whoever it was. After he was revived, he set out to chenge his armor, so that he wouldn't be noticed as easily. He had lost most of his memories, and only remembered a few things, mostly about Arren Starkweather.
((The sacrifice was really Sophie Starkweather, the mother of Arren Starkweather. Of course, no one knows this, except the CoT group that revived him.))
Current Plans
Against the VoPC
Unknown to all but the most observant of people, Asperitance has slowly been manipulating his image within the VoPC. While it is unknown to Asperitance who has paid him to betray the only home he has found in Paragon, the amount of money involved is quite large. However, Asperitance is having some qualms about some of his targets. The employer has requested that Arbiter Death, David Starkweather, Vincent Jeager, and Melixia be killed, or otherwise incapacitated from interfering with the plans of this certain individual. Asperitance has a hunch that the transmission may be from Lord Recluse himself, but has no way to prove or disprove this theory. Mission failed, Asperitance was killed before completion was possible.
Against Arbiter Death
While the Arbiter is indeed one of Asperitance’s closest friends, Asperitance has a certain displeasure for his methods. He intends to prevent further use of the torture chambers, even if that should mean killing the subjects before the Arbiter has a chance to further torture them. While Asperitance has not witnessed a torture… He knows what torture is like, and positively despises it. Mission failed, Asperitance was killed before completion was possible.
Against Himself
Asperitance was a proud lycan, and even now it depresses himself to be in the cyborg state he is currently trapped in. He wishes to one day change himself back to a lycan, if it’s even possible. Mission partial-success, a newly ressurected Asperitance, under the guise Marith, was able to create a new cybernetic body, which allows some of his old traits to come through. However, most of his memories have been lost.
Against David Starkweather
Asperitance has heard of David's betrayal of his father. As Asperitance, he still has a friendship with the man, but as Marith he realizes that compassion will lead to his second death. He has decided to confront David, and possibly kill him. Marith, however, would prefeer David as a friend that he could rely on.
The Silver Bullets
Black Scorpion thought it would be funny, and ironic, to implant a very specific weakness in Asperitance. If a person should carry a silver bullet with the same composition as the tertiary bio-core implanted in Asperitance, Asperitance’s cybernetic eye will pick up the silver like a sun. It’s blinding for him to look at, and after a Ludovico-like therapy session, a form of torture in Black Scorpion’s mind, Asperitance is physically unable to attack a person who has one such bullet on their person. Currently, only two people possess these bullets: Melixia - Hers was the first Asperitance gave out willingly. He was slightly angry that the Arbiter didn't retrieve the bullet when he had Melixial killed. Scarlet - The second bullet handed out willingly. He veiws Scarlet as a trusted friend, and intermediary between him and his love, Arren.
((Note from the Author: If you don’t know what the Ludovico Technique is, and you’re mature enough for a rather disturbing book, read A Clockwork Orange. If you’re not mature enough, or cannot procure said book… Just look it up on Wikipedia or something… I’d rather you read the book, it’s a good book in my opinion, but I’ll stop talking… Just so you know, if you do go find out about the thing, it’s not a real technique used. It’s only a fact of fiction..))
Thoughts about Asperitance
"He’s like my brother, yo. I wouldn’t have lived past the day I was born if not for that dude. I’s ain’t going to go into details, but he know how to save lives, and how to end dem."-Imi Somos
"I certainly did love my lycan self. ‘Tis a shame that I will never know that body again." -Asperitance

Romance?
It is suspected that, although he is supposed to be an emotionless shell, Asperitance might have some romantic feelings towards some citizens of Paragon and the Isles. Especially Arren Starkweather, the maleviolent daughter of Arbiter Death.
