Atlantean

Atlanteans herald their origins back to the original fall of Atlantis (known as the final destruction) which came about when the people made their most crowning achievement. There are many who argue what this achievement was, or whether it was not war that brought their amazing civilization to an end. All know that it was a great and tribulatious event that shook the entire world, even that of the Gods! The catastrophe destroyed the homeland of these advanced people, and they were thought to be destroyed.

Atlanteans appear as nearly bronzed skin or very tanned humans. They are tall, typically very well defined and athletic people. Many Atlanteans are described as Olympic quality humanoids, demigods forged from the fires of the Gods. To say they are blessed physically is an understatement. Atlanteans live very long lives, virtually as long as many Merfolk (some despute whether this is a blessing of Poseidon) averaging approx 600-800 years!

Atlanteans are hardy individuals, who have learned to adapt (with the help of their deity) to some amazing conditions...

Atlanteans are natural swimmers (though they have no tails) averaging at approx 15knots, comparable to many sport fish! They have gills (tiny behind their ears), which allow them to process water like any Merfolk. Atlanteans even boast a respectable depth tolerance of nearly 2.5 miles! though their physiology might suggest a keener relation to humans, they can endure as well as most Merfolk!

Atlantis rests upon the sea bed, neatly tucked away (and guarded by powerful magic spells to throw off intruders and Surfacers) near the Mediterranean sea, but still within the Atlantic ocean. Stories abound about its approx location, being nearer to Africa, or to South America, and the Atlanteans like it that way, as it keeps unnecesarry intruders guessing.

Atlanteans are a varied and widely differing race. They share more in common with their human ancestry in terms of goals, needs, and culture then they do with their Merfolk cousins. However, Atlanteans are a noble and dedicated race. They believe STRONGLY in loyalty and duty. They are a mentally fortified race, their determination and devotion are second to none, and their Military discipline is legend! Most beings who encounter the militia of Atlantis can only be reminded of the Myrmidons of old, and their strict and powerful adherance to excellence in all forms.
