Mission Statement
'Blackstone Hills Preparatory School is one of the many 'Meta Schools' of Paragon, this one having the express purpose in training young metahumans how to use and control their powers to greatest civic effect. While not every graduate goes on to a career in crime-fighting organizations very student is given training and development to where they could easily assume leadership positions. Students at BHPS not only receive a full education, but, learn self-respect, discipline, leadership skills, and how to work both alone and within a team environment. They learn about their powers, themselves, and their place in the world. They learn ethics, responsibility, and grow - not just as people, but as members of their community.
Whatever brought you to BHPS, be it a mutation, an experiment, a gift or some other thing - one thing stands as common amongst all of its students. A willingness to achieve, a willingness to excell, and a willingness to grow to become the best that you can be. To become an icon that people can look towards, a light that others can rally around, and a hero in whatever walk of life that you should so choose.
Due to the rigorous and well-respected academic program BHPS; 84% of the graduates go on to a four year college after graduation with 15% directly enlisting in such programs as Freedom Corps. Because we hold ourselves to this high standard of education, so too do we expect a high standard of behavior and conduct on the behalf of our students.
Disciplinary Contract
To enhance its effectiveness, this document addresses not only the role of the parents, the students, and school, but also core values and model student behavior, rights and responsibilities of students, procedures for using corrective strategies, including suspension and expulsion. The District promotes the following beliefs:
Teachers and Staff at BHPS
Belief | Description |
Citizenship | Helping to create a society based upon democratic values including rules of law, equality of opportunity, due process, reasoned argument, representative government, checks and balances, rights and responsibilities and democratic decision-making. |
Fairness | Treating people impartially, not playing favorites, being open-minded, and maintaining an objective attitude toward those whose actions and ideas are different from our own. |
Respect | Showing regard for the worth and dignity of someone or something, being courteous and polite, and judging all people on their merits. Respect takes three major forms: respect for oneself, respect for other people, and respect for the environment. |

Integrity | Standing up for your beliefs about what is right and what is wrong and resisting social pressure to do wrong. |
Honesty | Dealing truthfully with people, being sincere, not deceiving them or stealing from them, not cheating or lying, on tests or in life. |
Cooperation | Working together towards goals by being a good student, a good teammate, a good squad member and a good squad leader. |
Notable Rules and Regulations
Responsibility and Guardianship at BHPS
- 2.1 The school assumes legal guardianship and responsibility for the actions of its students in public. This is known as loco parentis and is a common law ruling for boarding schools and dormitory housing.
2.2 Due to the legal guardianship over students at BHPS, all students must clear training and evaluation before they receive a student Hero ID. Metahuman crime-fighting, as per the Citizen Crime Fighting Act is permitted while in uniform as per campus civic requirements. Crime-fighting out of uniform is considered to be a violation which will result in a warning for the first infraction and restriction to campus for no more than one week. Subsequent infractions will give demerits to the squadron of the student in question, campus restriction, and various other duties as per Uniform Code (See 5.1.1).
2.2.1 The school assumes legal responsibilities of students participating in the Citizen Crime Fighting Act while in uniform. Due to agreements with the PPD, Longbow, and Freedom Corps the uniforms of BHPS are recognized as official crime fighting uniforms regardless of the age of the wearer. As such any behavior done while in uniform in violation of our ethics and conduct codes (See 12.1) will result in immediate expulsion.
Uniform Code
- 5.1.1 The school is designed to not only foster a sense of family and unity amongst squadrons, but, to also grant confidence and authority to the student in question on patrol while still allowing students a way to explore and present their individuality. Students are required to wear either their casual or dress uniform but they are permitted to alter it 'suiting the fashion of the day' within reason during uniform days. While on patrol students are required to wear their school sponsored uniform.
Public Behavior and Conduct
- 12.1 Students of the school are expected to act as ambassadors of BHPS at all times and act in accordance to local laws and requirements. They will be seen as hospitable, helpful and courtseous to the populace as a whole. There is a zero-tolerance policy for any crimes of any nature performed by students while in school uniform. If a student is found to have broken any law while in school dress they will face immediate suspension for no more than one week and their squadron will be reset to zero points. Students that are found to commit crimes of any nature outside of their uniform or who conduct themselves inappropriately towards that of an ambassasor of BHPS in or out of uniform will face immediate detention for no more than one week and their squadron will lose half of their points at that current time.
12.1.1. Any students who are found to have inadvertantly broken a requirement while in uniform due to previously known religious, social or ethical difficulty, or telepathic control will be excused from this punishment.
OOC; Teenagers, Rules and You
This would be a pretty boring game if all of our students perfectly followed the rules.
While BHPS is certainly an observant organization they are far from omnipotent nor do they seek to be. They're aware students attempt to sneak out and drink while in civvies. They know that some students will stay out past curfew and (gasp) maybe even some will stay over in rooms where they shouldn't be despite the best work of the staff and the prefects. While not the most permissive school in the world they certainly aren't trying to stop teenagers from being teenagers.
They merely want it to happen in ways that don't cause too much trouble for the students, the parents themselves, and the school as often as possible.
You as players are encouraged to make little storylines out of these little behavior slips and we as staff will do our best to try and help faciliate your RP. We also will offer Story Opportunities - little events that you as players can CHOOSE to say happen or don't happen - that might throw an interesting snafu into your plans.
Our general rule of thumb is that if it would have a lasting consequence past a day be it a hangover or a broken arm - let your advocate know so we can be aware of the setting. It might even have something bigger tie into it and enrich the story as a whole not just for your character but for everyone else's as well.
