History
As a very young child, Nathaniel Goodwin would accompany his parents, renowned explorers Arthur and Jackie Goodwin, on their treks into the African jungles. The Goodwins were researching the ruins of what appeared to an ancient tribe of monkey worshipers when they trigered a sophisticated yet ancient security system protecting an ancient amulet. The amulet began to glow and the walls began to rumble. The Goodwins and their team high tailed it out of the ruins only to realize that Nathaniel was still inside. The entire building began to glow with a strange red light.
When Nathaniel awoke, he found himself surrounded by a pack of monkeys. Still a child of but five years old, Nathaniel lay on the floor of the ruins frozen in fear by the giant pack of screeching animals. As he lay there crying, a monkey approached him with a strange amulet draped from a vine. The monkey placed the amulet around Nathaniel's neck causing a neaction that joined the two. If not already frightened, sprouting fur and a tail might have driven Nathaniel into a state of extreme panic. After a few moments, the animal seperated itself from the child's body and began to speak. The pack informed Nathaniel that they believed that he had fulfilled an ancient prophesy about a strange being from afar being the eventual savior of their tribe. One of the tribe's elders approached the boy and led him to some paintings on the walls of the temple. The paintings told of beings that resembled Nathaniel and the destruction of their civilization.
Nearly ten years later, Nathaniel had been long since adopted by the tribe of monkeys not only as a member but as their head tribesman and raised into a strong young man who had become generally accepted by the different animals of the jungle. He acted as a mediator among the different species as well as the human tribes that traveled through the region. He was happy with his new family and friends. That was until others encroached upon the his kingdom. European explorers began to explore the fertile jungle. And with them came diseases as well as anger, death and destruction of life as it was. The tribe had taken a stance of non-involvement hoping that the explorers would move along eventually without happening upon their city. They were wrong.
One normal day was all it took for the explorers to ransack the city. As they were preparing to leave, Nathaniel confronted the explorers. Assuming him to be a simple "savage", the leader of the expedition shot Nathaniel as a warning to not interfere with their doings. Nathaniel tapped into the Totem Field, as he would later call it, and drew upon an newt's ability to regenrate which was amplified by the amulet. Nathaniel rallied a small army of jungle animals that he had befriended to remove the explorers by force. As Nathaniel and his friends rampaged the camp of the explorers, the explorers rampaged his city and slaughtered his new family as they tried to defend their home. When Nathaniel returned home, he found his tribe slain, and their stores of food and trinkets stole. He unearthed a pair of gauntlets that were given to him by a tribal headman for saving him from a pride of lions. Staying in his human form so that his prey could look into his eyes, Nathaniel walked into the camp and slaughtered the explorers.
Having lost a second family, Nathaniel walked into the temple that he had worshiped at for over ten years and placed the amulet back on its mantle. The return of the amulet triggered the same light show that brought Nathaniel into the past. When the lights died down Nathaniel reclaimed the amulet and merged with a bird in hopes of finding his parents. When he finally made it to civilization, he found that he hadn't returned at the same time that he had left.
After returning to the States, Nathaniel found that his parents had been deceased for some time. They had perished in jungle after searching for Nathaniel for nearly two years. Before they died, they set up a trust in case he ever returned.

Powers
Animelding: Through the use of the Kingdom Medailion, Nathaniel has the ability to magically bond with animals into a hybrid beastial form.
Animal Communication: After melding with a species of animal, Nathaniel retains the ability to communicate and understand said species.
Aspects of the Beast: The final ability that the Kingdom Medallion bestows upon its wearer, is the ability to tap into the magic of the Totem Field and draw upon aspects of certain animals' physiology.
Abilities
Acrobatics: Growing up in the jungle, Nathaniel became adept at evading predators as well as navigating the flora that populated the jungle.
Rapport with Animals: Growing up around many different species, Nathaniel developed a comfort with all manner of beasts.
Strength Level
Depending upon what beastial form Nathaniel may take his strength can range from that of a normal human to something nearly 20 times that.
Weaknesses
Though his powers give him a very versatile repertoire when it comes to escaping danger, they do not make him impervious to harm or death.
Transportation
Nathaniel can take many forms from a bird to a fish to a cheetah to a monkey so he is never short of ways to get around.

Character Evolution
This character came out exactly as imagined save for the name. He was intended to be named Kingdom as in animal kingdom. After the name change, the story started to flesh itself out. He went from a mutant shapeshifter, to a time tossed child that gained magic powers so to speak.
Influences
Beast Master gets most of his inspiration from a combination of Animal Man and Beast Boy.
