Intro

Raised and trained as a guardian angel, in both ethics and combat, Blue Amaranth was the very definition of 'pure'. While this meant nothing in her home, it would lead her to troubles, and perhaps her greatest fault, later in her life. Trained, indeed, bred with the ability to control the air about her, the weather, the temperature, she was of a class of angel most humans would have considered magical. To her these things were entirely natural, second nature even, the tools of a warrior, used always to incapacitate one's foe, to protect the innocent, your charge, never to kill or destroy.

Tools that weren't enough when she was "deployed" to help the needy citizens of Paragon City.

Personality

Young, Naive, and Optimistic, "Blue" always tries to find the best in everyone. Unlike many of her kind, she frequently lets her emotions get the better of her and has been known to be extremely compulsive when she thinks she's right. Loyal to a fault, she'll often defend complete strangers with her life... though that's the way she's been trained. Born to believe the world is perfect, she's quickly finding out that it's far from eden. That conflict of perceptions is leading to a large bout of confusion on the young angel's part.

Powers

Blue possesses dominion over the air and temperature, the lineage of her angel "archetype". She usually uses these to entrap enemies in ice, trip them by freezing the floor, or discourage them through acts of nature, though occasionally she has been able to bend her powers to other uses, such as healing allies. Also of note, though obvious, is her ability to fly using her sapphire blue wings.

Story

Innocence

This ivory-skinned angel arrived in paragon city about as inexperienced as they come. Considering herself somewhere between a guardian and warrior angel, she set out and quickly found a niche protecting the citizens of the city from lesser criminal gangs. Though lesser work, she considered it important none the less. To call her an optimist at that point would have been an understatement. It was on one such mission she would meet a pair that would open her eyes to the true nature of the world.

On that day, she was running (her wings were still not strong enough to function on earth) through King's Row when she noticed several clockwork slipping into a known skull hideout. Upon entering, however, she found not the little brass men but what she took to be two heroes. Kaldius and Stormy Darkness, an almost father-son like pair of combatants. The trio cleaned out the warehouse easily, and after being offered a place in their organization, Dimone, the angel decided to join them permanently, figuring she could be of more help with allies than on her own.

It was later that day that she discovered exactly what Kaldius was: A devil, by his own words. What had she done... she was helping a creature that she had been told time and again was her enemy. He didn't seem like an enemy though, and indeed, genuinely protected both herself and Stormy. Their second day as a team would prove different, however. From the second King Kaldius (She wasn't sure what he was a king of yet, but she figured she would find out) entered, she knew something was wrong. His armor, indeed his complexion, was darker. Perhaps even more distressed than her was Stormy, who seemed to consider Kaldius something of a surrogate father. She couldn't say why it was she stayed, even after Kaldius admitted to wanting to see her fall from grace. Maybe it was compassion for the young hero named stormy... maybe she felt something forbidden for Kaldius. Time would tell.

That night when she returned home, she was kept locked out. She was told she smelt of a devil.

Truth

Stormy Darkness and Blue Amaranth versus the Vahzilok

A guardian must guard her charge, no matter the cost.

That was the thought running through the pale angel's mind as she returned the next day, mercifully finding only the young boy, stormy. Unmercifully, he was poisoned by the same zombies she had fought a few times already, a group calling themselves the vahzilok. Utter abominations to Blue, who knew only the peace of natural creations, the angel was infuriated. She helped raid a facility that had been attacked with stormy, helping to find him a cure and then went to the site of the creature's next attack: a sewer system, where they planned on poisoning the entire city's water supply. What she found inside, however, would change the angel.

Deep in the sewers, the pair came across a creature much like the abominations and cadavers that they had fought thus far, but this one... this one was different. It had a modified arm, it's body was far larger than even the hulking abominations, and, as they engaged the creature, it spoke to them. By the end of the fight, Blue realized what it was... the doctor, the mad genius behind the attacks. The creature, unlike the others, still had a soul. This man had thought himself such a god that he had done this to himself?

Upon leaving the sewer, she confided in stormy that she wasn't strong enough to stay with them and resist the far greater power of their demon leader. She also pointed out that, when Stormy was with them, his power over her seemed to wane a little. For whatever reason, the boy protected the angel from the demon. In return, she vowed to be his guardian as well.

Her return to heaven that night would not go smooth... already aware that she was becoming tainted, but deciding that staying with the demon and his crew was still the right thing to do, she returned once again to earth after being denied entry to her own home. Instead she found herself talking with a demon as a peer, a friend perhaps. She still didn't fully trust him but she had to admit that he cared about her, in his own, mood-swinging way.

Paradise Lost

King Kaldius and Blue Amaranth

The angel's fist slammed into the car... hard. It was completely encased in ice, and left a dent that, had she hit a person, she surely would have killed them. She simply stared... started in horror until she felt Kaldius wrap his hand around her ice cold wrist, dragging her away even as she pleaded for him to let go, even as she fought to regain control.

"What emotions came over you just now?" he asked... seemingly genuinely concerned. Icy tears streaked to the cold, deserted alley's pavement as she sobbed back answers, rationalizations, denials. She knew though... even without his aura, she cared as well.

The angel fell.

Aftermath

It was difficult to wake up in that room. Difficult, as every other morning of her life, her entire existance, her eyes opened to the shining perfection of her former home's splendor. 'Perfection' now being a relative term... what was all the beauty and peace in the universe without free will? Without love? He was already gone of course, but she could still sense his lingering aura. He had merely woke earlier.

Strangely, stormy seemed to take her newfound happiness and emotions rather badly. Her transformation upset her young charge, causing him to ask a great deal of questions... most of which she answered rather enigmatically. Though they fought together a good portion of the day, ending yet another vahzilok threat carried out by a remaining splinter faction of the doctor's army, it was only as the sun began it's death theroes in evening that she finally reached him, assuring him that she would remain his guardian, that were he in danger, she would hear him and protect him. Assuring him, though this was a lie, that he could still protect her as well. It was far too late to protect the angel.

Fusion

"I'm going to die... I don't know when" he said to her. The angel bolted upright from her position at her king's side. He had swept her away only a night before... now he was going to die?

Kaldius needed to anchor his soul to this world, otherwise his body would be unable to contain his power, and would eventually be destroyed. It took little convincing for the pale angel to offer her help, even knowing that it would mean fusing her soul with his... for an angel, the most sacred thing an individual has. It was barely an hour later, though, when they knelt across from each other in the castle's ritual chamber. Pale blue and dark purple auras swirled about the room as they freed themselves from their respective owners, dancing and mixing together as their physical bodies did the same. The angel was knocked cold by the experiance, but was otherwise unharmed. She awoke the next day feeling... stronger. Stronger than she ever had before...
