Biography
A Law-Abiding Beginning
Alex Trakk started out as every red-blooded American young man would, with high ideals and morals, and wanting to do the right thing. This outlook on life led him into military service, serving for six years in the United States Marine Corps. As he was making ready to muster out, like most civilian employers, the Paragon City Police Department had a representative at the USMC separations office. What the PPD offered sounded good to Alex, so with his active duty commitment served, Alex left the Marines and moved to Paragon City. Alex entered his law-enforcement career with positive attitudes and ideals, much like those that took him into military service. However, the meta, supernatural, and alien elements dealt with in Paragon City were taxing on the young, enthusiastic cop. All too often, despite the presence organizations like Longbow, the metas/supers/aliens would use their abilities to thwart the wheels and scales of justice. Alex way too often saw criminals he’d helped collar go free before he’d even finished filing the reports!
Years of Enslavement
The positive-minded young man quickly became jaded about his effectiveness against the criminal elements in Paragon City. Perhaps this was the factor that let him drop his guard for an instant in that fateful traffic stop that night… when the driver of the vehicle looked at him with eyes that seemed to pierce into his very soul… and despite Alex’s phenomenal willpower, that moment of complacency gave the vampire motorist the ‘in’ it needed to command Alex’s mind. The vampire knew what it was up against. Even with his guard dropped, Alex’s will was a challenge for the vampire’s mind control. More drastic and reliable means were needed to secure Alex’s will to that of the vampire, and the creature knew this. Keeping control of Alex’s mind long enough to lure the young cop back to its lair, the vampire then subjected Alex to the Blood Bond… where mortals are fed vampiric blood… the properties of the vitae being such that the mortal’s will is subjugated to that of the vampire.
Even with the more reliable method of the Blood Bond in place, the vampire wound up having to feed Alex more often than its other thralls, due to Alex’s notable willpower. During the years that Alex was under the vampire’s sway, he was required to execute numerous heinous acts and use his police status to cover them up, or re-direct investigations from the vampire’s involvement. Among these was the kidnapping and subsequent death of a notably-ranking Longbow officer’s daughter. Though Alex only snatched the girl for the vampire to drain to death, it was the turning point in his life in more ways than one.
The Fall From Grace
From somewhere within himself, Alex found the strength to resist the Blood Bond, and betrayed his domitor by reporting its existence and activities to Longbow. Alex decapitated the vampire just as the Longbow operatives arrived. The congratulations on the destruction of vampire were short lived when Alex’s involvement with the kidnapping of that Longbow officer’s daughter came to light. Any good Alex had done with the slaying of his domitor was quickly washed away. The Longbow officer used what influence he could to ensure Alex was convicted and sent to the Ziggurat.
The system and city that Alex had worked so diligently to uphold and defend, and returned to those standards with the destruction of the vampire, betrayed him, and cast him out as a criminal. Any respect Alex had for Paragon City and the forces of ‘good’ were destroyed with the banging of the judge’s gavel.
The Rogue Islands and a New Job
Sentenced and confined in the Ziggurat, Alex for the most part spent his time reading. There were more than a few convicts who wanted to harass the big cop, but not many followed through with those desires. The few that did were left quaking masses of electro-induced neuro-overload (see Powers) or left with nasty, gaping gashes from Alex’s fangs (see Medical).
When the chance to escape the ‘Zig’ in the confusion of a prison-break that Alex had no part of, the former cop decided he’d paid enough for trying to do (and in the end did) the right thing. The forces of ‘good’ could go screw themselves. From that point on, Alex was looking after one person: himself.
Stowing away on the landing gear of an Arachnos helicopter, Alex made his way to Mercy Island. Here he met Bibi, the founder of Alex’s current ‘employer’, The Descendants. Bibi recognized a certain vehemence and drive within Alex that she could put to good use. She offered him to work as part of her organization specializing in target hits, smuggling, assett re-acquisition, and strong-arm enforcement. All of these appealed to Alex, who signed on with the stipulation he was still going to do freelance work on the side. Bibi agreed. At that point, Alex took on the codename ‘C4 Knight’.
Equipment
Alex wears light Kevlar-lined, close-fitting leather tunic and pants, as well as a full length Kevlar-lined trench coat. The additional armor further enhances his (now) superhuman resiliency and resistance. His gauntlets and boots are re-enforced at striking points to enhance the effect of melee impacts in combat. Further, the materials are lined with a fine weave of highly conductive material that readily transfers his control of electro-magnetism.
Additionally, Alex carries a PDA with adjusting communications frequencies, and a built in GPS locator for those who are secured-frequency-linked with him.
Powers
Alex was not born with any powers. What powers he has now are shifting manifestations from the vampiric enzyme that has become infused into his DNA. Such infusing are rare, and unpredictable. In Alex’s case, the manifestations are those that let him readily tap into ambient electro-magnetic fields and lines of flux to augment his strength, speed, resilience, recovery, and endurance to super-human levels.
A side effect of this EM-manipulation is the ability to deliver an electro-static shock to his target, potentially overloading their neuro-network, much like a tazer. By moving along the polar EM-lines, Alex can fly. He has developed the ability to use a limited form of teleportation, shifting himself a distance along the EM lines. The distance he moves is limited to a few meters, and creates an explosive disruption to the area in which he re-manifests.
In recent times, there have been reports of Alex using what appears to be Mu Mastery abilities.
Further, by ‘focusing’ on the EM patterns in his immediate area, he can see the patterns that surround living beings. By manipulating his ‘target’ within the nearby lines of EM flux, Alex can teleport persons over a short distance to his location.
Recent Developments
Research – the mystical sort – revealed that the vampire that dominated Alex for so long, at some point, must have consumed a Mu Mystic’s blood to the point of death. It’s not uncommon for blood-thralls to develop traits of the vampire that holds them under sway. Alex, apparently, is no different, but as it relates to the enzyme carrying the necessary ‘code’ to produce Mu-ish electrical manipulation.
Medical
The most notable thing about Alex is his prominent canine teeth (fangs). This is a leftover trait of being infused with vampiric blood for so long. What’s NOT so notable, is the enzyme in the vampire’s that compelled obedience has literally fused into his DNA. However, with the source of the enzyme destroyed, and not capable of being replenished, the enzyme went into ‘survival mode’ to avoid being expunged by Alex’s own immune system. The theory is that the enzyme ‘chose’ to adapt and be assimilated into Alex’s DNA to avoid destruction. It’s surmised that the infusion process is not as yet complete, as new abilities seem to manifest as the enzyme becomes more and more ‘comfortable’ within his cellular structure.
Contacts / Known Associates
Alex is an active member of The Descendants, a mercenary group operating within the Rogue Islands. To this end, he’s been readily seen associating / working with Roughshod Red and Bad Amplitude.
In the recent past, Alex was seen quite often in the company (both professionally and personally) of Queen Boadicea. However, the Queen disappeared not so long ago, and hasn’t been heard from since.
((OOC Note: Alex and Boadicea, or rather her schizo alter-ego, Victoria, were informally married until Boadicea was in ascendance, and goaded Alex into a berserk fury. The vampiric enzyme took over, and Alex drained/drank her blood until she was dead.)
Alex has been seen in both working and social settings with Roxie Dynamite. One can only guess the true nature of their relationship, and only a select few know the exact details.
Recently, Roxie entered in to retirement from the Rogue Isles, to a small house Alex bought for her in Gray, Georgia. Alex still comes back to the Isles (via teleporter) frequently to keep the Descendants operational.
