Personal History
Jonathan Greyson is the son of respected physician and wealthy philanthropist Dr. Stephen Greyson. Stephen Greyson had another identity as well, however: he was the superhero known to Paragon City and the world as Doctor Millenium, chosen guardian of the Cosmic Crystal. Unlike his father, Jonathan had a reputation for being a reckless and flamboyant playboy, displaying little in the way of his father's nobler personality traits. Some felt this was the behavior of a young man straining under the heavy expectations of being the son of such a successful and renowned individual; others said that Jonathan Greyson was simply a rotten apple that had fallen very far from the tree.
Jonathan's life would change, however, in the wake of the Rikti Invasion. Doctor Millenium was one of the many magically empowered heroes to comprise Omega Team, the group that attempted to destroy the Rikti portal, and like nearly every member of the Omega Team, Doctor Magnus was believed dead when the portal exploded. Although no evidence to prove the ultimate fate of Doctor Magnus was uncovered, in the instant that the Rikti portal exploded the Cosmic Crystal came to Jonathan Greyson. Whether this was the final act of Doctor Magnus, to bequeath his legacy to his only son, or whether the crystal itself somehow chose a successor is unclear, but in that fateful moment Jonathan Greyson came face-to-face with his destiny and had to make a choice.
Bereaved and inspired by the heroic sacrifice that his father and the other members of Omega Team had made in destroying the Rikti portal, Jonathan took up the Cosmic Crystal and the responsibilities that went with it. Choosing not to become the next Doctor Millenium, however, Jonathan adopted a new name: Captain Omega-X, in honor of his father and the lost heroes of Omega Team. Jon has since come to grips with his role as a hero in Paragon City, and with the legacy left to him by his family.
On December 25, 2011, Jon married Roumi Greyson, a former member of the Parade of Souls who turned her back on that group and joined Jon in the Golden Mirror. There are rumours that the two are expecting their first child, but these have not yet been confirmed.
Education
Jon was a student at Paragon University, where he studied business and science. His instructors noticed he was a highly intelligent and insightful student, however they also commented that he lacked the dedication and seriousness to be truly successful in his educational endeavors. Although his ability to understand the curriculum was unquestioned, Jon devoted more energy to carousing and thrill seeking than he did to his education. Since becoming Captain Omega-X, Jon has continued his studies and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry.
Military Career
After Jon was kicked out of Paragon University following an incident involving a fountain and several members of a sorority (rumour has it one of these was the daughter of a member of the senior faculty), his father had him attend a military college. Stephen Greyson's hope was that this would help his son to finally build the character and maturity that he thus far seemed to be lacking. Jon displayed his usual degree of intelligence, but continued to suffer from a lack of discipline. Nonetheless, he managed to avoid being expelled despite numerous marks against his record, and even served a tour of duty as a pilot in the Middle East, earning the rank of Captain. Although Jon's courage was found to be exemplary (he once flew into a heavy combat zone, in direct defiance of orders from his commanding officer, to airlift a squadron of American soldiers who had been pinned down by enemy fire), his continuing displays of insubordination eventually saw him discharged from service.
The Golden Mirror and the Greyson Foundation
Captain Omega-X was recruited into the Golden Mirror falling the disbandment of the Nocturne Division. His membership to the Mirror has been somewhat rocky, for although his ideals are very much in keeping with the group there have been a number of personal conflicts with members within the group. These complications include the presence of Bird of Prae, the Praetorian alter ego of Jon Greyson, within the Mirror, and more recently Jon's engagement to Roumi, a former associate of one of the Golden Mirror's leaders, Damashep, between whom there has been considerable bad blood over the years. As a result, Omega-X has become a bit of a loner of late, but continues to stand be his friends and the Golden Mirror when a crisis arises.
Jon's sister, Jennifer, is the CEO of the Greyson Foundation, a charitable organization that works towards supporting Paragon City in a variety of areas. Most recently, Jon and his sister have begun working together at the Foundation to help the city's heroes and their families as well as the victims of incidents such as the Galaxy City disaster, providing relief and support services for those affected by life in a City of Heroes.
Personality
Jonathan Greyson still displays many of the personality traits that he was known for as a youth: flamboyance, quick wit, an often cavalier attitude and a certain boyish charm. Underneath that exterior, however, something deeper had taken root. The death of his father and the devastation wrought by the Rikti Invasion has changed the way that Jonathan looks at the world, and a part of him has become more sober, serious and caring for the world around him. He has helped to continue on many of his father's philanthropic enterprises, although he leaves the majority of the business related details to his sister, Jennifer - both he and his sister are strongly aware that Jennifer has the better head for business.
As Captain Omega-X, he displays a sharp wit and sometimes overly flamboyant nature, always quick to antagonize his adversaries and leave allies amused (or occasionally chagrined) with a clever quip. He sometimes gets in over his head, but has proven himself resourceful and formidable despite his occasional recklessness. He frequently goes off on his own, often into dangerous situations, but this is not so much arrogance or recklessness (though he often portrays it as such), but a result of Jon's fear of losing someone close to him, be it a friend, loved one, or team mate - and of not wanting to be responsible for placing those people in a situation where they might come to harm. His engagement to Roumi has begun to show a shift in this behavior, to some extent, and many have been surprised to see the former playboy settling down - though if truth be told, Jon and Roumi's relationship is hardly what most people would called "settling down", as the two are often seen out and about together both socially and as a crime fighting duo.
After recovering from the Vhazilok disease he was infected with, Jonathan hung up his costume for several months, and was seen carousing at Pocket D as often as not. Recently, however, he has returned to duty wearing a new version of the Captain Omega-X costume, and seems to have renewed his desire to fight for justice and to protect the people of Paragon City. As Jonathan Greyson, he seems to have also adopted a more mature and responsible attitude, giving up the lift of a billionaire playboy and focussing his energies on making Paragon City a better place. He has begun working with his sister, Jennifer, by becoming more involved in the Greyson Foundation's charitable works, providing grants and new technology to the city's medical facilities and working to help troubled youth get off the streets and avoid falling in with the city's street gangs. He has also taken an active role working as a consultant to both City Hall, Longbow, and the PPD, among other organizations, in an attempt to improve the quality of life in Paragon City, particularly in areas such as Faultline where the city has suffered and needs to rebuild.
The Cosmic Crystal
The Cosmic Crystal is an ancient and magical artifact bound to the energies that make up the fabric of the universe itself. Each guardian of the crystal has been gifted with a different array of mystical abilities, suggesting that the form that the energies channelled through the Cosmic Crystal take may be in some means shaped by the will or subconscious mind of each guardian. Doctor Magnus, the previous guardian, was able to use the crystal to heal, whereas Captain Omega-X's abilities centre around the manipulation of gravity and extra-dimensional forces. It is uncertain whether the Crystal can be wielded by anyone other than it's Chosen guardian, or by what means each new guardian is selected.
Captain Omega-X wears the Crystal on his belt, however this also changes from guardian to guardian. Doctor Magnus wore it as a pendant, while other guardians throughout history have had the crystal set into a ring or other piece of jewelry, suggesting that the Cosmic Crystal can also alter its size. One historic guardian, Galactica Girl, actually had the crystal mystically bonded to her forehead, though this is the only recorded instance in which the Crystal has so fused itself to its Chosen.
