The Jotun are giants of Norse mythology. Their essential nature is elemental, much like the elemental spirits of hermetic practice, or the kami of Japan. The Jotun are frequently seen as being in opposition to the Aesir and Vanir, although several (such as Aegir and Loki) have been recognized as gods, while others (such as Skadi and Gerðr) married gods.
