The Cloak of Night is by far my favorite character I never play. An old school vigilante with a flair for the theatric and a knack for mysticism, she's an amalgam of Batman and The Shadow with a dash of Dr. Strange. My main obstacle in playing the Cloak is simply that her persona is so grandiose it's very easy to get it completely wrong or just come up bone dry when she should be saturating a mission with atmosphere.[1] I expect to play a lot more of her now that I've rerolled her to Dual Pistols; Dark/Pistols/Psy is the perfect combination of powers to satisfy the concept, and having a character's playstyle match their personality is key to determining a keeper for me.

Excerpt, Sunday Paragon Times, "City of Style" section

August 10th, 2009

"SIGHTED: Look out pop princesses and half-dressed heiresses, the grande dame of the London scene has landed in Paragon to set an example! Multiple sources are telling us that famously well-aged philanthropist and old school socialite Dame Agatha Penmark has peppered the latest spate of fundraisers with personal appearances. One can only hope Dame Agatha's unflappable dignity will distract from the excesses and embarrassments of our own country's contributions to high society while she's here (no really, we can ONLY hope). (And is it any surprise, despite decades of denials, that this week's HeroTracker (page B12!) bears rumors of the legendary Cloak of Night's return to action right here in Paragon City?)"

  1. Specifically, the Cloak lets loose in mission /broadcast to represent her casting her voice through the shadows of the criminal's hideout to strike fear into her target's soul while fighting her way to them, at least in missions with a "Defeat So-and-so" objective. If I have time to I try to compose something suitably sinister while the rest of the team's zoning, but I always fear it's a thin line between entertaining and annoying my teammates so I prefer to err on the side of not annoying them and end up setting aside the atmosphere in favor of keeping up with the action.
