History

Anthony Ingles was born and raised in Kings Row to Eric and Antoinette, a family struggling to make ends meet, and that was before Anthony was born. Growing up in the 'Row' taught Anthony many things, who to make friends with, how to survive and it was also here that he learned his skills in thievery. His parents enrolled Anthony into marital arts at the age of 6 and he stayed with it until he was 14.

When he was 14, he would find that he would need to rely on some of his skills after his mother and father were killed in a drive by shooting. With no other family, Anthony was shipped off to an orphanage. He became quite troubled, withdrawn and developed a serious stutter. He would make a new friend, Charles Story, who would eventually teach Anthony to laugh again and that not everything was bleak. However, his stutter did not improve and the more other children made fun of Anthony the more he sought revenge by stealing from them. At first from the other children and eventually stealing from the other staff members. At the age of 17 he would be put out of the orphanage because of his troublesome behaviour.

As he wandered the streets of Kings Row, now alone, he saw a well dressed and presumably wealthy businessman lying face down in the alley. The man's briefcase lay open and Anthony rifled through the papers, though there was nothing of interest. He took the man's wallet from his back pocket, took the money and then rolled the body over to search his jacket. As he rolled the body over the man bore a twisted grin and before Anthony could react a dark cloud spewed forth from the man's mouth into Anthony's own.

Anthony immediately stood up and vomited. He ran as far from the body as he could.

As he lay on a makeshift bed on the streets that night, he began to hear a dark, deep voice. "Feed. Feed me." Anthony's musculature began to change. He grew in size and strength but the overwhelming hunger remained. As he got up and saw a couple walking home from a late night movie he quickly realised what the voice wanted to eat. Anthony ran after the couple and using his newfound strength dragged them into an alley and beat them until they fell unconscious. As they lay on the ground, he raised his bloodied hand, semi-aware of what he was doing yet unable to control himself. The dark mist flowed from his hand into the bodies of the two victims and he felt satiated.

The next morning as he awoke, Anthony was not sure if it was a dream or not. There was no sign of blood or struggle on his body. However, that night, the urge would return.

Many nights passed and the urge continued. Over the next year he would acquire a ninja blade and a short tanto for efficient 'subduing' of his victims. During this time he would learn to communicate with the demon, psychically who reveals itself as Hunger. Hunger explains to Anthony that it is a demon from a 'Dark Dimension' and that it needs a host to survive. He also explains that Anthony is now linked to the demon who needs to feed on the lifeforce of others to survive and that if it dies, Anthony will also die. As they communicate Anthony begins to realise that during the day he could control the urges and this demon inside him. As he learned to exercise control, he also found that he could contain the demon at night, although this required more effort.

Unfortunately, his control came too late as his string of 'feedings' eventually led Longbow to him and he would be captured and put into the Zig.

Recently, Arachnos helped Anthony escape and during his escape he heard Arachnos agents referring to him as 'The Craving Dark', a moniker which he would adopt. What lies for him in his newfound freedom? Even The Craving Dark isn't sure.

Powers and Abilities

Dark Conduit: Anthony's body is host to an entity from, what it refers to as a "Dark Dimension," a world of strange ebony energy. Anthony is linked to a pocket realm of that dimension dominated by the demon that calls itself Hunger, which compels Anthony to absorb the life forces of other beings which temporarily satisfies this craving.

Dark Channeling: Hunger can channel Dark to create a field of darkness in his general vicinity. People in the vicinity of Hunger's darkness feel numbing cold and crippling fear, sometimes seeing disturbing visions. Overlong exposure to the darkness can drive people insane. Victims who find themselves in Hunger's Dark aura are gradually drained of their life force, and presumably die unless Hunger releases them.

Dark Intangibility: As Hunger, Anthony is usually intangible, though he can solidify through an act of will, or by absorbing enough "light" to saturate his form temporarily.

Other Notes

• Hunger's powers have a variety of influences over Anthony. Anthony Ingles stutters, but Hunger does not, which is actually an aspect of his powers. He has deeper vocal qualities, an enhanced vocabulary, he grows in height and he is apparently immortal, or at least unhindered by death from "natural causes."
