Seraph stood before the Artemis assassin with righteous fire in her hand. The woman had killed a dozen people before, but she would not escape retribution again. Seraph was an angel of vengeance, and she was there to see the assassin face her punishment.
But the mortal woman begged for mercy. "Please," she pleaded, "don't take my life yet!" She woman cried genuine tears of fear and desperation. "I'm pregnant."
Seraph returned the cold gaze of an executioner. She felt remorse for the unborn life, but she was an angel of vengeance, not one of salvation or mercy. She brought forth her fires of judgement on the mortal.
Her wings turned black and her fall began
