Known Background Information
Born and raised in his beloved state of Rhode Island, Murray Austin came from a family of construction workers. His father and three uncles each worked diligently at their craft, helping raise various cities throughout the state, and eventually, at the age of 18, Murray joined them. The family had a sense of pride in what they accomplished, feeling as if each project they worked on was a child to them. After working with his family for years, Murray decided to move to Paragon City on his own, feeling he could do an amazing job expanding the majestic city's horizons.
And he did an amazing job, managing to impress the city's citizens and his fellow workers alike. It seemed as if he had superhuman abilities, as he performed feats of strength the common man only dreamt of. He was a regular John Henry among those in his community, and the community deeply appreciated the dedication he had to what the man considered his new child.
After years of peace, however, disaster after disaster ravaged the glorious city. He witnessed the chain of destruction that had created the Hollows, unable to pick the pieces back up due to the threats unleashed. He could only watch as the Rikti invaded, leading to the destruction of Baumton, and subsequently became enraged that no one seemed to care about restoring the area in the years to come. He heard of Overbrook being ripped in two at the hands of a villain hardly any of the city's heroes took seriously. It was these events that had caused Murray to slowly develop an immense hatred for all of Paragon City's super heroes.
Time after time after time small parts of the city would crumble because of the carelessness of each hero. Collateral damage was a constant in the city, requiring the dwindling construction crew to be in a near constant state of work, trying with all their might to restore the city. Unfortunately, for every building repaired two more were torn down, all in the name of justice.
And so Murray Austin decided enough was enough. No longer would he work for a city that didn't care about itself enough to treat it's constructions with respect. On November 13th, 2009, Howard adopted the name "Deconstruction Man", vowing to take back everything he had given to the once amazing location. Allying himself with a union of other irate workmen, they called themselves "The Wrecking Crew" and began their assault upon the city they once proudly helped raise.
Powers and Weaknesses
Deconstruction Man possess superhuman levels of both strength and durability, allowing him to perform incredible physical feats of strength and withstand a fairly high amount of damage. He is incredibly dangerous in close quarters, but lacks any serious long range abilities.
He is not known to plan ahead, often times playing situations by ear. This can be used to one's advantage, as he could then easily be overwhelmed and outsmarted by a more intelligent and/or prepared opponent. His goggles are also prescription, as he is near-sighted. Removal of his goggles would heavily impair his eyesight.
Known ways to properly thwart Deconstruction Man include, but are not limited to:
- Careful planning and coordination
- Ranged combat
- Psionics
- Exploiting his poor eyesight
