Early Life

In numerous interviews El Libre has revealed a lot about his past, using it to show that even troubled kids can grow up to be functional members of society. When El Libre was a young boy he was a trouble maker. He was large boy who was naturally athletic and strong. And, because of the poverty in his area, he ran with a tough crowd. Using his superior strength he managed to reign as a dominant force among the small child "gangs" that wandered the streets. Because of his disliking for most people he was known as the "one man gang" as he never had a crew of other people when he committed small crimes or faught rival child "gangs".

The main reason for this rough start was his father was an abusive alcoholic. As the result El Libre's image of mankind was tainted in his youth. El Libre would remain a trouble maker until his grandfather decided to step in to take control of the family. At first El Libre didn't listen to his grandfather and as he grew into his early teens got into more serious crimes. One day El Libre found himself against numerous opponents who were armed with blunt weapons. Beaten up he was afraid he would meet an early end. That was until the retired Luchador "Justicia" came out of seemingly nowhere and defeated El Libre's opponets with the greatest of ease despite his age. After that the Luchador took El Libre to a safe spot and revealed his true identity--something no one knew as Justicia had never revealed his face in public. Justicia was, in fact, El Libre's grandfather. It was then El Libre's grandfather scolded him and shared his views on what a real man was. El Libre, cheeks drenched with tears, then realized the error of his ways and vowed to become a "real man".

Years would pass and El Libre's grandfather revealed his family came from a long line of masked warriors and Luchadors, dating back to the Aztecs. As El Libre learned his family's history he learned his grandfather's philosophies, wrestling techniques, and training methods. In a number of years El Libre refined his body and soul to become a "real man". When his training was complete he moved to fighting professionally under the name "El Libre", or "The Free". It's meaning symbolizing how he was the epitude of Técnicos Luchadors as well he is now "free" of his darkness.

Wrestling Career

Early Career

At first "El Libre" was a minor wrestler, like everyone the begining of his story was humble. He was often featured in matches with other less famous wrestlers. Interesting, against "good"/Técnicos wrestlers he could tie or lose but would never lose to a "bad"/Rudos wrestler. It was then he was given the reputation as someone who could never lose to a bad guy. This reputation would eventually lead him to fighting the legendary La Máscara Rojo (The Red Mask) "The God of the Ring".

La Máscara Rojo "The God of the Ring"

Before El Libre emerged onto the scene La Máscara Rojo, or simply "Rojo" dominated the ring as an undefeated force. No wrestler could remain conscious after he used his "La Máscara Buster" because he could leap an unusually high height causing a great deal of damage. There were rumors he was a Super because of his unusually high jump but it is still unknown to this day. At first Rojo was a Técnicos wrestler who was beloved by all. He was a friendly man who was popular with younger children. And even though he was still relatively young was idolized by many of his fellow Luchadors. But this glory wouldn't last forever.

As time went by Rojo slowly turned to a rudos. His fame was getting to him. He became arrogant, greedy, cocky, and disrespectful to other wrestlers. It was at this time he was challenged to a new Luchador, El Libre, who was in the eyes of many inferior to Rojo. Rojo, not afraid of the "inferior" El Libre, agreed to the match. Little did he know that El Libre would give him the fight of his life.

La Máscara Rojo Vs El Libre

The match started out like a typical match against Rojo. No matter what El Libre tried to do Rojo would use his superior strength and skill to counter El Libre's moves. And, utilizing Rojo's usual strategy, caught El Libre in a position to preform his signature "La Máscara Rojo Buster". It was then he leaped higher then he did for any other wrestler. Showing that how "good values" that Técnicos stood for was pure idealism. When he landed the move El Libre was thought to be dead--as no man should be able to survive a fall from that height. Rojo, being cocky, wouldn't even bother to pin him. Instead he would wait until a referee would count El Libre out or just take his body out on a stretcher.

As the referee counted and checked El Libre's vital signs, Rojo boasted how superior he was. But, unknown to Rojo El Libre would recover. Getting up and in a sudden boost of speed had gotten him in position for a Power Bomb, then a Muscle Buster, and ending this combo of grapples with a leg lock. After Rojo had reached the ropes El Libre let him go. Rojo then finally realized El Libre wouldn't go down. The match then went on for hours with the two men fighting as equals. The match would end with Rojo attempting to do his "Rojo Driver" but El Libre managed to reverse the move. He would attempt to preform a "german suplex" variant, but with one addition. He'd leap as he did so, making it an incredibly damaging attack. This jumping "german suplex" would be known as "El Suplex del Libre", one of his signature moves.

Rojo was pinned by El Libre and medics were brought in. Although El Libre seemed more hurt he demanded Rojo be the one they made their priority. As Rojo was tended to El Libre proclaimed to the cheering crowd that "Determination and a pure heart will overcome any obstacle." According to the Hospital's staff El Libre visited Rojo in the hospital and apologized for injuring him. He also expressed that it was a great match and was more then willing to have a future rematch. This simple act of kindness and good sportsmanship changed Rojo back to the man he was before.

Career Post-Rojo

After Rojo, El Libre quickly became one of the most beloved Técnicos wrestlers out there. He would never lose a match against a Rudos Luchador. In all matches he made sure that his opponent recieved medical attention first. Whenever he was able to speak to the public he'd talk about good ethics, having strong family values, and to show kindness to others. Because of his kindness he made many Rudos turn to Técnicos. He didn't only change people's lives in the ring he did so outside it.

Because of his fame he was well paid for someone in his country, but lived a humble life with his mother. He gave most of his money to several charities but would eventually create one of his own to fund "El Libre's Center for Troubled Youths". Where he took care of young children who lived with troubled families or got involved in "gang" activities. At the center he taught the children how to take care of themselves by improving them in both body and soul. El Libre would often state that many people who turn to crime simply are people who live in poor conditions or haven't received enough kindness in their lives. He proved this theory by turning many troubled youths to productive members of society simply by being kind and never giving up on them.

During the Rikti Invasion, El Libre and other Luchadors banned together to defend mexico. Rojo and El Libre eventually teaming up for the most unusual match in the world. It was a trap set up by the two that attracted many Rikti. All the Rikti who came were defeated.

After hearing about the first Rikti invasion in Paragon El Libre became concerned. Immediately he volunteered to be part of the city's reconstruction and using his, which in America was only a decent amount of, wealth to provide financial aid to those who's homes and families were lost.

El Libre the Hero

After finishing helping in the city's reconstruction and those who were in his financial aid program were able to get back on their feet El Libre decided to stay in Paragon. He noticed that gangs were too numerous in the city and there was a lot of troubled youth. And to top it off a great deal of heroes became "anti-heroes". Disliking how anti-heroes acted, he decided to become a hero himself so that the children would have a good role model to look up to.

When he registered to be a Super Hero they were surprised as he had absolutely no super powers. Since he didn't have any powers or any gear he was, at first, denied his license. It was then he began to train harder then ever. Refining what was "already refined". When he came back after a year of constant training El Libre looked the same but his strength had increased to a level that rivaled a super human with super strength! Testing was done on him to see if he used Science or Technology to augment his strength but they deemed him natural. Somehow with a harsh training regiment and diet he was able to achieve strength high enough to qualify to become a registered Super Hero. In recent interviews about how he gained such strength he has responded with one of his well known mottos "Determination and a pure heart will overcome any obstacle."

El Libre Post-Hero Registration

El Libre's policy is to never kill. In all cases after he defeats opponents and sends them to jail he takes time to visit them in jail and tries to get them to change their ways. Although a good deal of the people he captures refuses to give up their evil ways numerous criminals have become productive members of society because of El Libre. Although he hasn't been a hero for a great deal of time some younger heroes look up to him because of his positive attitude and raw strength.

Despite the fact El Libre doesn't approve of the way a lot of women dress at the D he is occasionally there. Once in a while signing autographs to fans for free and sharing wrestling stories to entertain others. He's also has been known to debate various philosophies, often with villians or anti-heroes. Even though he can be viewed as a "Mexican Boyscout" he, surprisingly, gets along well with most villains.

In order to give him an edge in his crime fighting he contacted Rojo some time ago in hopes to learn the secrets of his ability to leap incredibly high. After learning Rojo's secret training methods El Libre slowly developed an incredibly high jump that rivals that of a person who's super human anatomy allows them to reach such height with little effort. In order to improve his abilities he occasionally disappears for periods of times in order to train his body to reach new levels of strength.
