My name is Elros Telemnar; Son of the Flame; The Phoenix King; Emperor of Alazara. I once fancied myself a hero, a savior of the people, but I now know the world is not colored only in black and white. Those who are "good" are capable of horrible things, and those who are "evil" can sometimes be our saviors.

I am Elros Telemnar, and this is my story.

Ascension to the Throne

My story starts when my father, Alzaris, was killed in battle defending our kingdom. He was a good man, and his passing was mourned throughout the land. In time though, it came time for me, being the eldest son, to take my place as the Emperor of Alazara.

My brother, Elendros, had always been jealous of me. Since I was the eldest, I was treated in a different manner, as I would one day take the throne. So my jealous brother, according to custom, challenged me for the title of Emperor. According to Alazaran custom, the challengers compete in three events, one chosen by each competitor, and one chosen by an impartial judge. I bested my brother in a game of Sominium and he beat me in a chariot race (he always had been better at sports). I fortunately beat him in the final challenge, which was a straight-up battle.

Elendros' Betrayal

I believe even then, my brother had fallen prey to some corrupting influence. Instead of accepting that he had lost, my brother attempted to have me assassinated. Fortunately, he was thwarted, and my life was safe. Such a heinous crime though could not go unpunished, and it was my unfortunate duty to banish my brother from Alazara.

For a while, no one knew where Elendros had gone, but I can now tell his story in full.

My brother had always had incredibly powerful psionic abilities, and decided that since he could not be the Emperor of Alazara, he would create his own kingdom. My brother shed his family name, and took the last name "Xi'roth". His kingdom he decided to call that of the "Xi'thal". None but the extremely mad and power-hungry would join my brother, so he started to use his psionic powers to enslave innocent people to his cause.

After he had amassed a large enough force, my brother marched upon Alazara, and demanded that I relinquish the throne.

The War

Of course, I would not, for I saw what my brother had become. He was attired entirely in black, with his hands and feet encased in bone. He had a skull as a mask and wore a heavily decorated arcane cloak. His eyes glowed with a baleful light. It was a simple outfit, but the effect was rather impressive I'll admit. Had I not known the voice, I would never have known it was my brother.

So having been refused the throne for a third time, Elendros declared war on Alazara. The warriors and wizards of Alazara were powerful, but Elendros' troops were imbued with dark magic and worked together in units perfectly, a result of Elendros controlling most of their minds.

The armies of Alazara were pushed back, until I was finally forced to enter the battle. Unfortunately, in the midst of battle, I was captured and almost executed. I was saved by the timely arrival of a group of myserious beings of immense power, and together we defeated and pushed back my brother.

I knew that more power would be needed if I were to defeat Elendros once and for all. I enacted a powerful scrying ritual to discover where the strongest source of power was in Alazara, and found a cave not too far from Solviscus. Inside that cave, I found the Tablets of Solusek. On them were the tale of a God of Fire who had been imprisoned by the other Gods because he had grown too powerful. I thought that if I could unleash a portion of Solusek's power and control it, it would be exactly the power I needed to drive back Elendros forever.

It was the biggest mistake I would ever make.

Solusek's Release

To this day, I regret what I did. I needed power to release Solusek from his prison, and so I formed a group of elite mages for this purpose. During the course of several battles, these mages would absorb a portion of the essence of the dying soldiers. It was very little relatively speaking, but Life energy is extremely powerful. After absorbing enough power, the group of mages and I attempted the ritual to release Solusek.

All was going as planned, we were slowly breaking the seal on Solusek's prison, when it happened. The small portion of Solusek that we had unleashed usurped the ritual, absorbed all the power we had collected, the life essence of all the mages who were partaking in the ritual, and a portion of my own power before I managed to regain enough control to fend it off. Unfortunately, it was enough energy. The seal was totally broken, and Solusek was freed.

He stood seven feet tall, a large cloak, black with red trim, flowed about his body. He wore black robes that seemed alive, and on closer inspection, I noticed that his robes were actually solidified smoke. But the worst thing of his visage, was his head. His face held no features, it was merely a black lump in the shape of a face, but the whole thing was aflame, and therein were his features. He looked at me with eyes of baleful fire, and laughed. That laugh still haunts my sleep. It was a laugh of doom, of destruction, of apocalypse. My soul quivered when I heard it. The laugh faded, and with a blinding flash of fire, Solusek was gone.

I didn't have to wait long to find where he had gone. When I made it back to the Sun Palace, I heard a report that at a battle some twenty miles away, a figure matching the description of Solusek had appeared in the midst of the fighting and started killing soldiers indiscriminately. Then after having caused chaos and destruction, he vanished, leaving only the smell of sulfur and burning flesh. This happened at several battles, until I finally realized Solusek was now a larger threat to my kingdom than my brother was.

To Kill a God

It came to pass that by speaking with my Chief Chronomancer Aoleleb, that I discovered the ancient ritual the primordial Gods had used to seal Solusek into his prison. It was incredibly complicated, requiring obscure ingredients that fortunately were easy to come by in the Palace. The amount of power and time it required was simply not feasible though, and all hope seemed lost. All attempts to meet the unrealistic requirements of the ritual were made, even capturing the essences of summoned demonic creatures. Nothing was working, until I was contacted by Elendros...

He realized that our battle was irrelevant compared to the danger Solusek posed to our world, and agreed to help me with the ritual. His psionic powers caused his "subjects" to worship him like a god, granting him near god-like powers through their worship. This was exactly what we needed, and so Elendros and myself set out to confront Solusek

A Sort of Victory

I'll keep this brief. When Elendros and I made it to the most recent battlefield of our pointless war, we found Solusek rampaging through the armies like an inferno, just as we expected. With our combined powers, we managed to bind the entirety of Solusek's essence into a soulgem. My brother however, was killed in the attempt...

To this day, I wonder why Elendros willingly gave his life to help me. Was it the realization that if Solusek was not defeated he would never be able to conquer Alazara? Or something deeper...?

I chose to believe my brother had come to see the light, and I will not hear any word against him. A great funeral was held for him, and a statue was erected in his honor in Solviscus

A plaque on the statue reads thus: "Before you stands Elendros Xi'Roth, brother of Elros Telemnar. He gave his life to defend this land. Always remember that the Night is darkest just before the Dawn."

Departure

It's been... Seventy-thousand years since then? That sounds about right. It's honestly been so long I don't remember. The long-and-short of it is that once Alazara was cut off from the rest of the world by Solusek's Scar, no empire ever got it in their head to invade us. I eventually grew tired of the day-to-day runnings of an empire, and passed the throne onto my illegitimate son. I knew it was a risky move, but the kid had potential. After convincing some very powerful people that he was up to the task, he ruled Alazara unopposed until his death some thousand years later. His dynasty still rules, I think. I haven't been to Alazara in a while. I should probably visit.

After I passed on the throne, I constructed myself a demi-plane between the worlds where I could live. It's a nice place. Somewhere down the line, somebody misinterpreted the story of the Black Phoenix Wars and began worshipping me as a God of Fire. Since then, I haven't aged, haven't really needed to eat much. You know, general God stuff.

I travel a lot these days. Life gets kind of boring when you live for so long, but with each new world I see, I love this multiverse a bit more. And so I do my best to help now. I've got all eternity, as far as I know, and I intend to make it count.

Personality

Generally, Elros is a quiet man. He keeps to himself, preferring the company of his mind and his magic to the company of others. While many believe this is because Elros is arrogant, which he is to a point, it is mostly because he does not feel it is polite to force his company upon others.

While generally quiet, he is more comfortable around those he knows. He is also fiercely loyal, doing anything to protect a friend.

When angered, Elros is like a wildfire. Though he is slow to anger, when he goes off, it's like a bomb.

Relatives

Elendros Xi'Roth - Elros' younger brother. The "Emeperor" of the Xi'thal. Elendros went mad after being refused the throne of Alazara and attempted to kill Elros for it. he was defeated and banished from the Kingdom. During the Black Phoenix Wars, Elendros perished assisting Elros in the ritual that defeated Solusek.

Powers/Abilities

Various Magic - Elros is a very powerful mage, and as such is able to cast moderately powerful general spells. He can conjure mundane items, levitate, and a whole slew of other things

Advanced Fire Control - Elros' specialty is fire magic, which he controls with great precision. The vast majority of spells he uses in combat are fire based, such as fire breath, fireballs, and the like. He even has adapated the element of fire to a few unorthodox spells such as his "Rise of the Phoenix" technique, which allows him to revive himself if he falls in battle.

Low-Level Scrying Aura - An extremely useful low-level spell Elros developed himself. This power allows him to indentify the name and powers of anyone in his vicinity. He cannot however learn anything more than that, such as a person's history or the source of their powers.

Near-Celestial Abilities - Elros is almost the God of Fire. The people of Alazara worship him as such and he possesses the essence of Solusek, the true God of Fire, in a gem. These combined factors give him near-god like abilities, severely reducing his biological needs and enhancing his powers.

Fire Immunity - Elros is almost the God of Fire, and consequently is almost immune to fire. The amount of damage he would take though is negligible, and can often be disregarded. This immunity unfortunately only applies to natural fire. Fires of mystical origin such as hellfire are not included. He is still somewhat resistant to those though.

Reduced Biological Needs - Being almost the God of Fire has altered Elros' physical composition. He is only somewhat human and is actually more comprable to an angel or demigod. Because of this, he does not really need to eat, drink, sleep, or even breathe. He also has resistant to most poisons.

Arcane Scholar/Incessant Curiosity - Elros loves to learn. Magic is such a fascinating subject to him, that on more than one occasion he had to be reminded to eat while studying, and that was with the whole "eating once every ten years" thing. He can often be seen in a mystical library or workshop, learning something new or experimenting with his magic.

Artificing - Elros is a master-class Artificer, more commonly known as an enchanter. More simply, he is a crafter of mystical objects. He loves experimenting with artificing, just to see what sort of objects he can dream up. Once he created a sword that quacked whenever it struck something. It was rather odd honestly, and he still has no idea why he did it, other than the fact that he thought it was funny at the time. He has also created objects with pratical uses, such as several constructs to guard the Sun Palace, refilling glasses (a personal favorite of his), and swords that produce a "short-circuit" effect on magical powers.

Allies

Friends

Aeon Blazefire - Elros and Aeon started their adventures in Paragon at around the same time, and their similar powers lead them to an association of mutual benefit. Lately though, their contact with each other has decreased drastically. It is unknown as to why, but it has been speculated it is because of Aeon's recent fascination with demon hunting.
