While Embrace of Shadows is decidedly aggressive, and never holds back in combat, those who spend time around her will quickly learn that she still has a good heart.

Embrace of Shadows. One of the few villains who's really stuck with me. Her power set makes her nearly unkillable, and great for soloing. Her personality and history though, is what has really made me keep playing her.

As per the norm, I don't censor myself. I'm really not sure how much this is going to be needed, but considering the context of Embrace's back story you get

personality

Embrace of Shadows comes of first as a cold, detached fiend.

This is a shell. A shield to protect her from the harsh reality that is the Rogue Isles. Underneath this exterior is a battered, frightened girl who want to help people.

At times she is something of a modern-day Robin Hood, except no one knows it's her. Several families in Port Oakes are known to find money just sitting on their kitchen table.

When she gets word of a hit on someone, she often tries to make them disappear. Sometimes it's a success, other times, not so much.

Brief history

Paragon City

Pre-War

Born Alexis ?* April 6th, 1986, to ther heroes known as The Silver Bullet and Nightstalker. *No last name on record. Files for Silver bullet and Nightstalker were destroyed.

She was a good student in school, although she tended to get in to fights they were always in defense of another. Being as she had no powers, more often than not she lost. For safety reasons, her parents enrolled her in Tae Kwon Do, which she excelled at.

She thought she had the perfect life, which teenagers seldom do. She was working towards a scholarship to a nice university, she had met a cute boy (whom her parents only moderately disapproved of). Oh yes, in May 2002, things were looking quite good for her. How things change...

Post-War

By dawn on May 24th, 2002, every able-bodied individual was either fighting to Rikti, tending the wounded, or working on the evacuation of hot zones. That's of course ignoring the looters and the cowards who fled at first sign of trouble.

And over the next six months, the fighting would only grow worse. And Alexis would see everything she knew and loved destroyed. Her parents died in the war. Her boyfriend lost. Her school leveled. Even the college she was going to attend was destroyed.

She looked at the wreckage of Paragon City, and she knew it would need as much help as it could get to rebuild. She couldn't offer much, but she wouldn't let that stop her. By early 2003, there was a new hero on the streets of Paragon.

She called herself the Silver Stalker, an obvious homage to her parents. She patrolled the city diligently, stopping looters (not that there was much left to loot), construction sight copper thieves, the like. And as Paragon rebuilt, so did Paragon's criminal element.

In January of 2004, she received an anonymous tip, a drug deal was going down in an abandoned office building in Independence Port. She slipped in undetected and made her way up to the 15th floor. She met a small group of cops on the way up, naivety got the best of her and she assumed this made her job easier.

Too late she learned the bitter truth. Not all cops are good guys. It was quite an added bonus for the Family, to get the Silver Stalker delivered to them, enough so that the cops got a fair discount.

The Family though, couldn't be content with just killing her. No. The things that were done to here cannot properly be gone in to, nor would you want to actually read it. Suffice it to say that 'rape' is not nearly a harsh enough term. It began though, with her eyes being gouged out, and concluded with her naked, broken body being thrown down an elevator shaft.

One mistake was made though, they didn't kill her.

Embracing the Shadow

In the cold depth of the elevator shaft, Alexis lay there, remarkably and unfortunately conscious. She knew she shouldn't have survived the fall alone, not even counting everything else.

She found herself wondering why she lived. Then she heard a voice, a dark hiss. "Do you want to die down here?" It asked. "Do you want to let those sick, perverted bastards get away with what they have done, and do it again?"

While she couldn't speak, the creature seemed to be able to read her thoughts, and continued.

"I offer you a gift, Alexis of the Dark-blood sect. A gift you have always had, but could not access. It will change you, make you better, stronger. I will make you able to exact proper vengeance on those who have wronged you. Do you want it?"

A deathly chill spread through her body, at first she thought she had just gone crazy and death was finally catching up to her. Then pain exploded through her limbs, as broken bones began to set and mend. Cuts and bruises healed. Within minutes, she could stand again. The only thing missing, was she still couldn't see.

"I cannot replace your eyes," The voice told her. "But, I can make you no longer need them."

True to its words, Alexis found herself able to discern details around her, finer details than she could have imagined seeing. She knew what she had to do and she knew she was going to enjoy it.

Vengeance

Reports began to flood the police stations of Paragon City, corpses were being found all over the city, and every last one of them, a Family goon. Neither cops nor heroes had any clue what to make of it, other than someone had a vendetta against the Family.

A task force was put on it, but didn't really pay much attention, as a lot of good cops and heroes had been lost to these goons. And even then, a week later, the killings stopped as suddenly as they started.

The next night, a police officer was found dead in his apartment. No evidence that could lead to a murder could be found. The next night, a practically identical situation. The next, two cops on patrol stop at a gas station, one goes in to get snack and comes out to find his partner dead. Once again no evidence can be found. The next two nights, once again, cops are found dead. Now there's only one from that deal that's alive. Lt. Roscoe Starr. He refuses to leave the station, and never goes anywhere alone.

Three days later a teenage girl with dark gray skin, and bandages wrapped around her eyes enters the Kings Row police station.

"I don't want to hurt any of you." She says in a soft voice. "You won't understand why I must do what I do though. Please, stay out of my way."

As soon as they realize she has hostile intentions the officers try to subdue her, to no avail. She is faster and stronger than them. The event that follows is often referred to by the media as a massacre. Those who were there say otherwise. Despite minor injuries to three dozen police officers and two heroes, as well as a third hero put in critical condition, there was only one fatality on that day. One Lt. Roscoe Starr.

And odder still, is once he was deceased, she simply stopped fighting and went peacefully in to custody.

The trial was hardly a trial at all. No evidence could be found to support her claim, and even then Paragon City does not condone vigilante killings. and so Alexis, AKA the Silver Stalker, was one of the first heroes to be locked in to the new and improved Zigursky prison.

Prison, and beyond.
