((WORK IN PROGRESS, IT AIN'T DONE YET, SHIT!)) Evan Durant is a member of the Council, and was a member of the now defunct 5th Column. Having a short conversation with him, you'd find it hard to believe someone like Evan could be part of such a terrorizing faction, but Evan isn't one to play around when there's official work to be done.

Character History

Early Life

Evan grew up in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and led an entirely uneventful life as an orphan up until he joined the Navy at the age of eight-teen. After serving a year, he applied and was accepted into the Navy SEALs. Evan thoroughly enjoyed his time serving with them holding several positions including: Breacher, Sensitive Site Exploitation, Interrogator, Technical Surveillance and Advanced Special Operations. Another opporutunity presented itself when Evan was approached to transfer to the SEALs black-ops division; a division specializing in meta-human warfare. Given the codename: Savior Smoke 6-2-6, he was subjected to various tests and training to help him, and his division along in their operations.

For his entire life, Evan had only heard and read about super heroes and villains, meta-humans and the arcane...and the damage they could cause. He heard about them more in following weeks during his training, then he got to engage and destroy them. Evan was lucky enough, once again, to be present when another opportunity came along; the black-ops division wanted to test out an alpha build of its new nano-machines. The procedure was painless and quick, but it left Evan able to recover from trauma that would kill most men. The machines could repair tissue damage sustained by his body by using atoms from one material and restructuring it into another; changing this morning's breakfast into that kidney he lost during a spat with a crazed ninja stalker, or repairing some bones that were broken in another encounter with a banshee wailing hero. A jaw, a knee, some skin, an eyeball. As long as the damage wasn't too egregious or his nano's shocked by an EMP blast, Evan could virtually remain un killable, but as he learned, it still hurt...a lot.

During one operation however, a chance encounter with a 5th Column operative would change Evan's outlook on not only the Navy, the SEALs, and its black-ops division, but his outlook on the world as a whole.

Operation: Black light

The operation was simple enough; infiltrate an enemy base, capture and extract key personnel and torch any remnants of the base before heading to the extraction point for pick-up. The team was a bit shocked upon reaching a control room where intelligence said their target should be waiting. Upon a medical gurney lay a decrepit Vampyri. Various tubes carrying unknown liquids were stuck almost anywhere they could be, machines hummed away and his rasping breaths filled the room. He spoke no words as they wheeled him out of the base. Evan could only guess at what he saw come from this man's eye was a tear as the Column base was burned to the ground. During the helicopter ride home Evan, being the polite guy he is, started making conversation with the man. They talked about where they were born, what hobbies they liked, why they've done what they've done up until this point in their lives. They talked politics, current events and past...and about his certain black-ops arm of the Navy Evan had gotten himself into. After arriving, Evan asked to be assigned as the man's guard until he was to be transported to another location for official interrogation and imprisonment. The man told Evan of the Column, of how they took care of him, gave him men who were fiercely loyal to command, how they made him more money in one year of service than he ever could during his almost ten year tenure in the army, of their outlandish technology and human experiments, of how he became a vampyri and what he could've done to Evan's team had the man not been in the middle of his scheduled treatments. The more Evan listened, the more he became convinced that this wet-work was for suckers; denying their men REAL power. Evan saw what he and his squad were capable of with just some fancy guns and equipment, and he wondered how much more he'd be capable of with the Columns help. Yes, this group was for suckers, and the Column was for the real winners. The night before the man's scheduled transport, Evan did the unthinkable; he told the man his plan to escape. The man would re-join his Column brethren and Evan would join him. Stealing various chemicals and drugs from the med bay requested by the man, Evan returned to the man's cell and concocted an oddly serum that re-vitalized the man just enough to make good on their escape. The rest of Evan's team was powerless to stop the now combat functional vampyri. They both, as far as the Navy was concerned, disappeared; vanished without a trace.

Shortly after, Evan was inducted into the Column and the man went his own way within the Column, Evan never learning his name. Doing practically the same thing as he was in the SEALs, only earning more money and respect from his peers. Each mission he completed gave him a sense of accomplishment he seemed to lack during his later years with the SEALs. A year after is induction, he was called to his Archon's quarters with grave news; the man who Evan saved, the man who changed Evan's ideals as a whole, the man who showed Evan the world wasn't so black and white after all, and who, above all else, brought Evan into the fold, had died during a combating Arachnos in the Rogue Isles. The Archon watched Evan silently before offering the name of the fallen Vampyri to Evan, along with the man's goggles they had managed to recover Evan has been wearing them ever since.

The Rogue Isles

Evan requested to be transfered from Column Headquarters in Striga to the Rogue Isles Corps (Column R.I.C.) in hopes to take the fight straight the the Spider's Lair. Finding his place in the Nebel Division, he constantly requested missions dealing with strikes against Arachnos in hopes that hatred would be abated. His former training granted him quick promotion to the Elite ranks of the Nebel which only meant more dangerous missions. Pounding spiders into the ground day to day began to wear thin, and a transfer to the Nacht division of the Column helped Evan along with his boredom. He felt right at home with the Nacht, it wasn't all too unlike the SEALs, as they dealt in covert operations, assassinations, kidnapping...everything that Evan was good at, and enjoyed. The Nacht wasn't too unlike the SEAL black-ops division either; he was doing all the above against people, and things that were far from normal. It wasn't too long after climbing his way into the Elite ranks of the Nacht, that opportunity once again decided to knock at Evan's door.

Addiction

The Higher-ups, pleased with Evan's tenacity, tactical, and combat skills, gave him the green-light to take part in the prestigious Ubermenschen program. Something Evan once heard the old Vampyri speak of, and one of the driving forces to sway him to the Columns side. Evan felt like a god after his first stage injections; a new found mental clarity along with boosted physical attributes. He was stronger, more resilient. He could make decisions quicker, faster than he could run anyways. This coupled with the more focused training that came along with the program, made Evan only crave more...and crave he did.

Sequestering away stashes of Super Soldier Serum would normally be an offense punishable by death, but the Columns scientists made sure that their new discovery wasn't to be thrown away so quick. Any normal Column soldier would have already died ten times over from the sheer amount of serum the scientists pumped into Evan's body. As it turned out, the little nano-machines implanted into Evan kept him alive when he should have exploded outright. Despite their best tries, however, the 5th Scientists were unable to replicate Evan's nano's of a somewhat unknown origin, but, at the very least, they had a human that could output, and sometimes beat out, the Columns Nightwolfs in sheer strength. It didn't come without a cause, however; while the nano's kept Evan alive, they also considered the chemicals to be invasive to Evan's body and did their damnedest to quickly rid his body of it. This, coupled with the sheer amount of serum injected in him at various intervals during the scientists tests, resulted in Evan becoming heavily addicted to Column serum, requiring him to receive additional “booster” shots every month instead of the normal three year cycle. And expensive investment, but in the eyes of the 5th, a wise one...one that would be put to the test when the Column was shaken to the very core in the months ahead.

Operation: New Guise

Shortly following the upheaval of the Column by the newly revived Council, Evan found himself too busy combating former friends and superiors alike to worry about his still deep seeded hatred for Arachnos. Any Column members not siding with the Council as ordered by Requiem himself, was marked as a traitor and was to be dealt with accordingly. The Nacht division was routinely tasked with infiltrating Column cell bases to exterminate any person ell found there, attempting to keep collateral damage at a minimum; they belonged to traitors but once cleared out could be used as Council bases of operations. Admiring Evans quick assimilation into the Council, his swift execution of orders against former comrades, and how well his already acquired skills melded with his new found strength, Council superiors moved Evan up to the newly created Adjutant rank shortly after it was decided that all Column remnants were destroyed or accounted for. Evan was incredibly proud at his new rank and privileges, though it would be short lived.
