Far Shadow
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Character is in Beta: Some details may not be consistent with actual play.
Far Shadow, sometimes known as Far or FarSha for short, is the alias used by Dean Ro of Praetorian Earth. He agreed to be taught for a number of years by a clan by the name of Autumn Leaf. Despite the theme of Ninja written all over his body, FarSha isn't bound by code or authority, the training seemed to be more of intrigue and the passing down of techniques from former masters.

Personality
With people:
- Polite and disciplined around strangers.
- Appears to genuinely care about others, interested in what people are saying.
- He is aware of his great stature, and the curiosity it inspires.
- His voice is large and powerful but well-spoken, often speaking in statements with pauses in between.
- Willing to answer questions of strangers about himself, though does not go out of his way to reveal personal information.
- Prone to Compare and Contrast between Praetorian Earth and Primal Earth in conversation.
- He feels he is not ready for a relationship until he has his life in order, as much as he'd like to settle with someone.
Far Shadow personally:
- Greatly dislikes the Devouring Earth for turning Earth into a lethal wasteland of nature.
- Acknowledges similarities between him and Ninjas, though he does not embrace such tropes by choice.
- Likes something about Primal Earth and Paragon City, the safety and freedom it provides.
- Has Vigilante tendencies, he prioritises stopping evil from creating havok in the future to saving the lives of complete strangers.
- Is curious of technology, though he has a long way to go before he can use such things casually.
Far Shadow isn't exactly a man of few words, but often takes a stern, no-nonsense tone and mannerism in public areas with lots of strangers. FarSha warms up to those who he trusts, becoming more talkative and having a positive attitude. He has no affiliation with any primal natives in particular.
Comments about his size are usually taken in stride, he's very aware of how tall and heavy he is and tolerates the sometimes inane comments about his body. He is grateful for his stature, though it can sometimes be a curse given how little amenities were built for someone such as him.
Having been born and raised in Praetorian Earth, FarSha has an uneasiness with authority and the Devouring Earth, the mere fact that the DE have been mainly contained in just specific areas of Paragon City is a welcome relief to him. He took his mission very seriously during Lou Pasterelli's Unity Plague arc where they and Dr. Ido foiled a plot to transform the city's inhabitance into Devouring Earth minions.
Secretive isn't exactly a word to use for Far Shadow, while he limits the amount of information on himself when talking amongst strangers, he doesn't often withhold information about himself such as his real name or his likes and dislikes. Coming from another universe, there are no records of his birth or education in government systems and prefers to be low-key in his ventures. The best word to describe him is Not Pubicly known, he's not secretive, it's just nobody knows who he is!
Regarding his status as a Ninja; He views his techniques and teachings as a way of defending himself, tactically subduing dangerous foes and others abilities to take him through harsh points in life, not an elaborate title of a prestigious group. When people acknowledge him as Ninja and Ninja only, he is puzzled why someone would have so much focus on such a concept. This is perhaps because he does not care for the mainstream distillation or merely because he's clever enough not to draw attention to himself as a Ninja.
Powers
FarSha's fighting style, tactical tools and expertise in Kuji-In were the results of training with a clan only known as Autumn Leaf. His size is medically unexplained, most definitely one of the largest human beings on earth. but also one without the crippling downsides associated with non-powered giants. This granted him enhanced strength and stamina, being almost as tough as he appears.
Street Justice
Played as Martial Arts for the Large & Tall, which he nicknamed call 'Giant Kung-Fu', using the raw power and strength of his body whilst mixing in spins and kicks. His great reach allows him to pound multiple foes with a single attack and performs well in crowds where he can use his [Spinning Strike] and [Sweeping Cross] techniques for maximum effect.
His fighting style isn't without precision, for he has trained in [Assassination], being able to home in on weakpoints occasionally for critical injuries to his opponent. He can strike critically more frequently in groups where he can use his allies as distraction to find a weakpoint, or simply striking when unnoticed. His [Assassin's Strike] technique features thrusting his fist so violently that it can break through solid concrete, considered deadly to those hit in a vital spot.
Ninjitsu
Stealth (Hide)
Contrasting against his size, FarSha's ability to blend into the background is quite ingenious. As well as mastering the art of silent-stepping and other finer points of stealth, FarSha imitates the size and shapes of large objects and environmental features, most foes don't notice someone standing in front of them until they look up and see a face. His ability to hide is critical for being able to strike an opponent's weak points consistently.
Agility and Reflexes (Ninja Reflexes, Danger Sense)
Far Shadow is agile and graceful for man his size and with keen senses to anticipate where his opponent will attack next, he's able to swerve and deflect attacks from a number of angles and distances. He can use Danger sense to detect stealthy foes nearby, it's not easy to surprise Far Shadow by sneaking up on him because of this.
Tactical Tool (Caltrops)
Far Shadow doesn't use many tools, favoring a hands-on approach to combat. But his favourite tactic is to take down a foe and follow up by spreading a pile of Caltrops on the ground. The sharp points and small electrical current in each caltrop cause enemies organic and otherwise to flee in pain, making the perfect distraction for Far Shadow to do his work.
Kuji-In, Ninja Magic (Kuji-In Rin, Sha and Retsu)
FarSha knows a few special spell-like abilities known as Kuji-In, which he recorded from his teachings to master at a later in life. Kuji-In is almost supernatural in essence, allowing Far Shadow to do things that normal humans could not.
Trivia
- Far Shadow is not very wealthy, though he seems to have gained the goodwill of the Citizens of Paragon City, his aversion to being the center of attention leaves him scraping up a living with physical currency instead.
- When Far Shadow was just eight years old he was big enough to drive a car, but soon outgrew the driver's side by age 14.
- Primal Far Shadow has family living on Primal Earth whilst Praetorian Far Shadow doesn't, this could lead to awkward mistaken identity in the future.
- Far Shadow's occupation of 'Traveller' is no mere title, his character has had a long past and one retcon in all. He began on the Victory as a Ninja-Blade/Ninjitsu Villain, time passed and he was retconned to make use of Street-Justice, retaining his Ninjitsu and concept as a Praetorian, then travelled to Primal Earth's Paragon City as a hero. He would then transfer over to the server Union briefly before transferring to Virtue where he currently resides.
