Fatare was the first character I ever created in City of Heroes, however she was originally created on Freedom. I recreated her on Virtue, and then decided to use that as part of her backstory.

Supergroup: Liberty League

Personality

Fatare is very eager, excitable, and somewhat gung-ho when she is with her fellow Leaguers. By herself, she is quiet and introverted. Though Fatare is book-smart, she's easily distracted, which makes her seem a bit spacey. She tries to be helpful whenever she can, and has been known to go too far, taking needless risks to save crime victims or help teammates.

Fatare is also a shameless fan-girl who idolizes a number of heroes, many of them in her own supergroup, the Liberty League. It's rumoured she got into the League by spotting Boscoe at a tram stop, and giving him a corndog while gushing about the League and making him pose for pictures.

Despite her bubbly (pun intended) personality, she carries a deep sadness about the loss of any connection to her past friends and family.

Powers

Force Fields

Fatare has the ability to create force fields to shield teammates, herself, and the odd inanimate-object-that-needs-to-be-protected-from-destruction. She can create a personal shield around herself that makes her almost impossible to hurt to any real effect.

Electrical Blasting

Fatare manifests electrical energy, which she uses offensively. Her electricity powers only cause minor damage, but she seldom fights alone.

Unknown Handheld Medical Device

Fatare also uses a small device for treatment of minor wounds, and to resuscitate fallen comrades. It's not clear where she got it from, but it's obviously not one of her natural abilities.

Flight

Fatare has the natural ability to fly. This is her favorite power.

Weaknesses and Limitations

Though persistent, Fatare is not very fast, strong, or resilient. Without the protection of her strongest shield, she can be easily defeated, and all that it takes for her to drop her shield is to have an ally or passerby in danger. Also, distracting her with something shiny might work too.

Equipment

Besides her medical device, Fatare uses no special equipment. She prefers to fight in one of her black and purple leather outfits or in her supergroup uniform.

Character History

Fatare is not from this dimension. As near as she can tell, her home dimension is what Portal Corps has dubbed the "Freedom" dimension, which is much like ours, though populated with an almost entirely different collection of heroes.

Before

Fatare showing off her new Hero ID in downtown Atlas Park, minutes after leaving City Hall.

Her life while in the Freedom dimension was much the same as many other young heroes. Fatare, and her younger sister Spectara, were mutants, manifesting their abilities in junior high. Their mother had been worried about their small town's reaction to her daughters' pointy ears and purple hair, not to mention their supernatural powers. She kept their abilities and looks a secret, which was easy, since Spectara has illusory powers. One day, their aunt offered to let them stay with her in Paragon City, where they finish high school while being themselves. And so, reluctantly, their mother sent Fatare and Spectara to live in Paragon City with her much older sister.

Fatare's mother let them go on one condition: that they do not take part in any crime-fighting activity.

So they were a bit surprised when their elderly aunt began training them the day after arriving in Paragon City.

So two crimefighters joined the fray, and had much success with their training. Fatare started making friends, and formed a supergroup with a hero named Djundi.

Until one day, in a Circle of Thorns mission. Her memory is fuzzy with the details... a portal... Spectara diving through, then a madness mage blocking the way... a fight... then stepping through the damaged portal... her last glimpse of her sister.

After

For a while, there was a flurry of confusion. Her emergency beacon didn't seem to be hooked up to the hospital system. They had lost her hero registration records at city hall, and she had to re-register. Her supergroup didn't exist, and none of her high school teachers remembered her, or had any record of her attendance. Fatare couldn't believe what the evidence was pointing to... that she was in a universe where she... where no one she had known... existed.

But she was wrong. There was her mother. Yes, Fatare found her mother; court records showed she had been committed for several years. There was a difficult visit. Fatare was truly alone. Working alone, she climbed back to her former security level. She started to have hopes again. She idolized the supergroups and heroes that stood out in this dimension, and their strong sense of community that made even her, an outsider, feel a little bit like part of something bigger.

Since joining the Liberty League, she has resumed her spirited struggle to be a great hero. She is currently double majoring in mathematics and superhuman studies.

Further Mutation: Wings

In early May 2007, Fatare noticed a rash on her back. She saw several different doctors/healers, and the rash all but disappeared several times. Each time, however, the rash returned, until it did not respond to any treatment; whether from high tech medical science, or magical salves and spells. Meanwhile, the rash turned into peeling, necrotized lesions over the course of a month. Surprisingly, aside from a fierce itch, the affected area was not in much pain. Because of the gross factor, and the failure of treatments to improve the situation, Fatare just kept her back covered and continued her crime-fighting activities throughout this period.

On June 8th, Fatare awoke to discover, to her horror, that the skin of her back was completely peeling away in large, putrid strips. By this point, she thoroughly believed she was about to die, the first victim of some horrible new disease. But as she pulled off the pieces, she saw a shiny, plastic-wrap-like layer underneath, and she suddenly realized what was going on. By the end of the day, she had shining, translucent purple wings.

In her youth, Fatare's grandmother told her fairy tales in a way that insinuated that their family was descended from one or more of the characters. Neither Fatare nor her family gave the stories much thought until her and her sister's mutations manifested. Even then, their mutations seemed more a sign of the times than an genetic elven/fae inheritance.

Anyway, Fatare now believes those family rumors were true, and wishes she paid more attention to the stories! She's very proud of her wings, and is more than happy to go into the gory details of how she got them.
