Hsiao is a native of dimension υβ 9-6 Taiwan. He has spent most of his life in the military fighting against the Hamidon, first in the People's Liberation Army before the fall of the East, then in the Imperial Defense Force. After the Emperor Cole defeated the Hamidon, he remained in the perimeter forces, working to reclaim Hamidon-polluted lands for human habitation. It was only in 2010 that he was recalled to the Imperial City to deal with the rising threat from Destroyers and the Resistance. The name "Fist of Destiny" caught on after his one-time comment on public broadcast that he was the Emperor's fist and intended to send the terrorists to their destiny.

Hsiao has telekinetic powers -- enough for him to direct impulse against a target and project kinetic barriers for himself and his allies, but not enough to warrant treatment in Mother's hospital. Like most officers in the Imperial Defense Force, he has had extensive genetic alterations to increase his physical abilities. Many of the genetic alterations, as well as his power armour, enable him to physically withstand the forces he generates. However, since Hsiao has no physical invulnerability powers, it is possible for him to knock himself out or even kill himself with his own powers, especially when outside of his power armour.

Assignment to Primal Earth

After a high-profile battle saving the Neutropolis reactors from Primal dimension terrorists known as "Arachnos", Hsiao was dispatched to Primal Earth by the Provost General with the mission of reducing the rising hostilities between the dimensions as well as investigating the Primal terrorist organisations known as Arachnos and Malta. He became engaged in crime-fighting activities in Paragon City.

After a scan by Positron while helping the hero with a situation the the Faultline Dam, it has come to light that the cybernetic implants placed in his body were suppressing his psychic abilities, rather than enhancing them as claimed by the Praetorian scientists. There were also circuits to disable or kill him upon receiving remote signals. The kill circuits were removed by Positron and Dr Fayte (merely a gifted surgeon, and nothing more). However, Hsiao asked for the psychic dampeners to remain on.

Praetorian Invasion

Unfortunately, Hsiao's primary mission to Primal Earth was unsuccessful, and he was recalled to Praetoria. The next time he visited Primal Earth, it would be as part of the invading force. Due to his stint in Primal, his loyalty to Praetoria was doubted by certain quarters, and he was only given non-critical assignments. This suited Hsiao, for he did not wish to fight the Primal heroes, many of whom he had become familiar with.

First Ward

After the failed invasion, Hsiao left the capital and travelled to First Ward. There, he discovered two secrets. Firstly, the Hamidon had returned. Secondly, that Mother's psychic mutilation of her patients to produce seers are creating the apparitions that haunt the land. Although disturbed by his findings, Hsiao still has no desire to break from the regime he has served for years. He himself wonders if the rebellious parts of his personality are wandering in the First Ward as apparitions.

Disillusioned by the constant invasion of Praetoria by Primal forces and disgusted with the regime-sanctioned abuses of Praetor Tilman, Hsiao left Paragon City for the Primal dimension Taiwan to fulfill a promise he made to the Primal version of himself.

Taiwan and the Fujian mine incident

When he first arrived in the Primal dimension, Hsiao had encountered the Primal version of himself and the two had fought together to destroy the cloning facility of the supervillain Protean. His primal dimension counterpart perished due to version incompatibility between his Taiwanese mediport and the Paragon version, but before his death, Hsiao's primal counterpart asked Hsiao to take over his responsibilities. Hsaio agreed.

When Hsiao travelled to Taiwan, he initially kept a low profile. The Taiwanese were initially suspicious but warmed up to Hsiao as he was seen as a native Taiwanese and could be seen patrolling the city almost all the time. Still, he was capitulated to a certain fame only in the 2011 Fujian mine incident, where a mine in eastern Fujian collapsed, trapping eight miners in unstable ground. In an unprecedented and some say shrewd political move, the provincial officials brought in Taiwanese heroes to help with the situation. Working together with China's Red Bat Hunter, Hsiao tunnelled through the ground to reach the miners. The two were hailed as heroes in mainland China. The Chinese newspapers particularly stresses on how Hsiao was from an alternate dimension where the Kuomingtang were defeated in Taiwan, and Hsaio was himself a lieutenant in the alternate dimension's People's Liberation Army (technically true).

Current status

Fist of Destiny is currently in Paragon City, as the representative of Chinese Taipei with the Hero League International.

Fiction (OOC knowledge only)

Theme: Superheroes of another culture (in this case, Praetorian and Chinese) do not necessarily have the same morality, beliefs, or reaction to stimuli, that Primal dimension Paragon City superheroes have. But if so, are they still "superheroes"?
