Early Life

Kacey was born on 5/21/1991 in Paragon City, the only child of famous surgeons Dr. Michael and Dr. Mallory Punkonen. Growing up in Founder's Falls, Kacey didn't see much of her parents because of their busy surgical schedules. With her parents working 14 hours a day, Kacey was raised by the family nanny Paula who was a retired hero of Paragon City. Paula would often tell the young girl her wild tales from her days as a hero, where Kacey became obsessed with everything concerning heroes.

Mutation

Around Kacey's 12th birthday, her mutation manifested one day when she was upset arguing with both her parents because of them missing her dance recital. The emotional episode lead to Kacey burning down a portion of their penthouse suite. Fearing for their coveted reputation, Kacey's parents began to secretly research surgical means to "cure" their daughter. During this time Paula began to secretly teach Kacey how to deal with her mutation and learn to control her new found gifts.

Next Wave

Unknown to her parents and unregistered with the city, the 12 year old Kacey took to the streets going by her childhood nickname "KC Punk". Seeing the girl was having issues with her wild unpredictable abilities, Paula taught Kacey everything she could about being a hero in the city. Paula also encouraged Kasey to seek out others her age that might help her understand how to deal with her powers. Paula made some calls and finally was able to setup a meeting for Kacey to meet with Amelia Lane of the Teen Group, Next Wave. After meeting Amelia, Kacey was excited to join and meet the others in Next Wave. Unfortunately the group of Next Wave only stayed together for a few months after Kacey's arrival and shortly after, many of its members moved on elsewhere to improve their skills as future heroes.

Trouble

Being on her own, the now 13 year old found herself in trouble one day when she accidentally set fire to a store she was trying to protect from an armed robbery attempt. When her parents found out how their daughter was spending her free time, Kacey's parents began taking measures to protect their coveted reputation in the community. First they fired Paula for encouraging Kacey into fighting crime, then they enrolled their daughter into a respected and strict boarding school to try and get their daughter "in line". Only 2 months into her new school and feeling shunned by her parents, Kacey continued to get into trouble with the school until she was eventually expelled.

Paragon City Freedom Corps Academy

After calling in many favors and pulling many strings, her parents had Kacey enrolled into the Paragon City Freedom Corps Academy and was given the callsign of Flashfire. Not close to being the typical Academy recruit, Kacey struggled in the strict school for future heroes and Agents of Longbow. On the cusp of being expelled, the Academy decided to put her on probation and assigned her a new roommate in Catherine Bridwell (callsign Timbre). Since the change in roommate, Kacey has steadily improved and has somehow made it to her third year.

With Graduation nearing, Kacey has been slacking again in recent months. Her friends have noticed her sneaking off campus and frequently hanging out with a guy they assume is a new boyfriend. The past 2 years have seen Kacey put forth a lot of hard work to get her grades up, but her friends think it's typical of her to now be screwing up, with many expecting her to drop out weeks before graduation just to spite the administration.

Personality

Flashfire is a spunky teen. Like most teenager's she doesn't like to be treated like a kid and she comes off alot older then she truly is. Kacey has a problem with authority figures and often snickers when she's being reprimanded, she tends to rely on her friend Catherine to make her aware when she is crossing the line. Kacey has limited medical knowledge from years of her parents trying to force a medical career on her as a child. Kasey also has knowledge in computers, and has taken a interest in electronics and has excelled in learning how to defuse bomb detonator's that a lot of local gang's like to use. She is also a big fan of horror movies and loves her hobby of photography.

Powers

Pyrokinesis

Kasey has the powers of Pyrokinesis. Her powers let her both conjure and control flames to do as she wish.

Heat Shield

At will, Kasey can form a barrier around herself that will melt most bullets and projectiles before they can reach her body.

Super Jump

Like a hot aired ballon, Kasey can also use her Pyrokinesis to form a pocket of hot air around herself that will give her the power to jump great distances.

Appearance

Flashfire's original appearance (not her Longbow Academy image above) was strongly influenced by this art of Nymphadora Tonks by the awesomeTransfuse (check out their page!). If Flashfire was ever portrayed in a live action movie, she would be portrayed
Singer/Actress Joss Stone as Flashfire
by singer/actress Joss Stone (pictured right), who was also an influence on her appearance.

Fun Facts

Gossip

Heard any rumors or gossip about Kacey around the campus? Feel free to add them here, true or not!

"I dunno, pyrokinesis is one thing, but there gets to be a point where you're not 'controlling fire' and seem to be applying a convenient label to what is a well-explored area of metahuman powers. We can't accept a simple one-word excuse for all the powers you have - they cover such a broad area that it would be foolish to accept it. I have to conjecture that you're lying about your powers - possibly to cover up their actual source. One has to ask, then, what possible source could shame one into that kind of silence? I've pursued it, and time and time again, all I can come up with is that we have a demonic creature standing before us in our class."

- Opening statement from a Angle Of Approach piece in Heroic Ethics, which since has conflagrated into a widespread rumour

"Kacey's the one with the penis, right?"

- Overheard in the boy's locker room
