Jubilant personality, beautiful, and absolutely maddening in that you cannot piss her off. She's fascinated by and takes notes on EVERYTHING and has a soft spot for fixing up old classic cars. |
Forma Fatalis was born on New Year's Day in 1987 to her parents, Bella and Rego Fatalis. It was a wonderful way to start a new year, in their minds, to complete their small but unique family.
Forma grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her parents, both accomplished scientists, devoted their lives to inventing and bettering the lives of the people around them. Both of Forma's parents dropped their research and focussed their time to their daughter after her birth, having spent many years in fertility treatment and hormone therapy to conceive. She was their gift after so much heartache and frustration.
Forma was always highly intelligent. She lifted her head the first day she was born, was rolling over by 1 month, and walking by 6 months. She was speaking in full sentences and potty trained by 12 months old. By the time most children were entering preschool, Forma was reading at a third grade level. It was this advanced level of growth which made Forma's parents decide she would be best off home schooled.
Forma's parents enjoyed to travel, and took her along with them when they frequently travelled to Europe. They paid for private tutors to teach her French, Spanish, German, and Latin. It was important in their minds that she be able to communicate in as many countries as possible. This early study helped Forma develop a sense of linguistics, and to this day, she often studies foreign languages, though does not have the time to devote herself for fluency in them.
When Forma was young, she often assisted her parents with their research and development. Her father's best lessons to her weren't in robotics, programming, or academic feats. He taught her to take her time, to be thorough, and to never give up. He taught her that the world around her is full of beautiful and terrible things, and that anything could happen to anyone. She learned to apply every circumstance as an improvement in her life.
Forma didn't realize how important this was until the day her mother died.
For as long as Forma could remember, up until the age of eight, her mother was working on a special machine to channel dark energy. She spent day and night, crouched over her desk in the brilliant light, tinkering with the clunky little machine. She managed to unlock many different powers that arcane heroes found so easy to simply summon. "Ordinary people should be able to do what the heroes do. We can't always rely on someone to save us", her mother often said.
Forma watched her mother lock herself in the experimental chamber and power the device on. The room was soundproof. Bella activated the dark device and summoned her first Dark Servant. The shadowy man immediately turned on the scientist, slaughtering her before her daughter's eyes. Forma screamed, banging on the windows and door, unable to open the chamber. Her screams drew her father, who instantly led her away, and called on MAGI to dispatch with the ethereal demon.
Rather than linger on her mother's death, Forma took over the research. She took extra meticulous care in everything she did, took notes on everything she saw. She vowed not to fall victim to her own carelessness like her mother did. Everyday, she looked at the dark device, considering ways to further its development. She and her father decided at age 16 to move to Paragon City. While she worked on the device before they moved, it was only after they moved to Paragon City when Forma made real progress.
Living in Minnesota isn't the easiest thing for a young genius. Most of the young people enjoy drinking, shopping, and outdoor sports. Other than a fondness for Archery, Forma never really associated with the other children. When all the local kids were discovering dating and social lives, Forma watched silently from the sidelines. She was friendly enough, but her intellect alienated her from boys her own age. She refused to act stupid, but also didn't want them to use her for her intellect. Her dates often ended too quickly, the males becoming bored with her enthusiasm for science, and leaving to meet with girls who acted more their age.
She had met her share of athletes when practicing Archery and became State Champion. An Olympic career dangled in front of her nose, but she chose instead to move to Paragon City with her father to push her technological career forward.
After moving to Paragon City, Forma found comfort within the University walls. She worked on her theory and produced inventions at a phenomenal rate. She earned the respect of the Dean, and was offered a teaching job by age 18. Forma accepted, and was soon teaching young people the ins and outs of robotics. She was often resented because she was such a young age, but that did not stop the vivacious youth from sharing her knowledge.
Forma is very meticulous about her appearance. Despite being holed up in a lab most days, she finds time on a daily basis to work out. The body, after all, is a temple. She stays toned and slender, and spends a reasonable amount of time every morning making herself look presentable. Her diet consists of simple fresh meals. Because she spends a lot of time working out, she eats a lot of pastas, and for a snack, she prefers fresh fruit and vegetables. Forma would pick a ripe strawberry over the world's finest chocolate anyday. She is currently considering cooking classes, considering she isn't particularly skilled in the trade. Forma's two favourite foods are homemade mac and cheese casserole, and peanut butter jelly sandwiches -- preferably with homemade jelly.
Forma does not spend a lot of her money -- not that she does not have enough of it. She is independently wealthy from her inventions -- but she does buy what makes her look best. She uses conferences and special occasions as new excuses to expand her already respectable wardrobe, and does not stop at local stores. Ah, the internet!
It is her loneliness for companionship which makes her a guilty party of a history of one night stands. She is privately just as frustrated with the men of this city as they become with her. She is reminded of the boys of her childhood, so she shamefully uses them for her own needs -- besides, she figures it is what they are doing to her, too.
In order to separate her business life from her personal life, Forma invents under her father's name, as his products have become a Paragon household name. He transfers all funds from her projects to her personal accounts. Forma is perfectly happy to allow her father to take credit for her commercial projects, as she does not wish to draw attention to herself.
Testing inventions is what Forma secretly loves doing most. She was working on the Dark Device and testing a new scope on her bow with her colleague, when she encountered enemy forces in greater numbers than anticipated. A quick call for backup introduced Forma to Captain Lucas Rousseau of Vanguard. As always, Forma flirted. It's simply a natural reaction she has to tall handsome men. After speaking for an extended period during the battle, Forma was astonished that he took a sincere interest in her work and life. The two exchanged numbers, and Forma felt compelled to call him the next day.
After meeting several times for coffee, and after completing many dangerous missions together, Forma became very fond of Luc, and he of her. She learned of his robotic arm and decided to begin working on a more functional, durable prosthesis with sensory attachment, so he may regain feeling in the fake arm. He allowed her to thoroughly examine the arm, and within days, she had a semi-functional prototype. After about a month of hard work and dedication to only the arm, Forma had a fully functional working model, customised specially for Luc.
The many recent meetings and interest in his arm prompted Forma to invite Luc to join her at a robotics conference in Tokyo. Her father had deadlines and it was too late to cancel his tickets, so Forma decided she would elevate their flirty relationship to the next level.
Since their trip to Tokyo, their relationship flourished, and the two fell deeply in love. They "moved in" together by joining their homes by a teleporter system, and after living together for a short time, Forma finally introduced Luc to her father, Rego.
Having impressed her father and received his blessing, it was not long until Luc proposed to Forma, and the two eloped soon after the proposal while vacationing in Iceland. They still live in their teleporter-joined apartments, but are planning on buying or building a home in the near future.
Forma's teaching career was short but illustrious. She was decorated for her lectures and her work, and highly disappointed the University by leaving abruptly. She assured them it was due to personal constraints and projects demanding her attention, but it was secretly due to an incident.
Forma suspected that one day she may regret her personal upkeep and hygiene. She noticed a young man following her every once in awhile. Forma's home was only a 10 minute walk from the University in Steel Canyon, so she seldom paid it much thought. She made a stop after work one day for groceries, and on her way home, felt a blade at her throat and hungry hands grabbing at her body and ripping at her clothes. She swiftly produced a screwdriver from her pocket, and stabbed her assailant in the neck. It was the young man from the University, looking for a little more than just education. The young man bled out on the street, despite Forma's immediate call to the authorities.
The next day, she politely handed in her resignation, and assured the Dean she would continue working on her theory and submitting papers.
One distinctive personality trait of Forma is her ability to be frustratingly cheerful. When faced with the most dire of situations, Forma will find the good in it and spread the positive mood onto those around her. There are always people who attempt to annoy her, but Forma simply smiles and shrugs it off, using it as an opportunity to get to know that specific person.
Although she does have an extremely flirty personality, she will smile, laugh, flirt, and be gracious, but never will she be the one who makes the first move. She may be willing, but she does not instigate. This is a direct reaction to her experience the day before she left the University.
Forma uses every situation she is faced with as an opportunity to grow, and firmly believes that impatience and brashness will spoil the learning experience.
