Affiliations

Originally Goldbrick was a member of Legion, the first supergroup (in closed beta). Currently ranked as a Council member of the Evolution supergroup.

Personality

A little slow on the uptake. No aptitude for remembering teammate names nor for linking up those names to their respective powersets. Not much awareness of the individual strengths and weaknesses of the foes he battles, which hasn't yet proved to be much of a liability (except to teammates). His general fuzziness is precisely the reason why he was chosen to wear the armor: to prove that anyone can succeed as a crimefighter wearing one of these high-tech suits.

Shows some unexpected aptitude in SG base design, and a moderate grasp of inventing.

Powersets

From the sales brochure:

The armor's exterior shell is highly resistant to smashing and lethal damage, but provides only moderate resistance to fire, cold, energy, negative energy, and toxic damage.

Warning: The Goldbrick Armor System was not designed to deal with psionic attacks.

The state of the art cybernetic endoskeleton delivers super-powerful fist blows and foot stomps while automatically adjusting its defensive reaction time to counter almost any threat level.

A special inner helmet lining, code-named "tin foil", protects well against disorient, sleep, hold, and immobilization effects.

The standard equipment rocket boots give the wearer reliable, short-range, low-altitude flight capability.

Abilities

Was an asset in the Goldbrick Armor System, Inc. mailroom, earning the Papercut badge. No previous job experience.

Weaknesses

Goldbrick is most vulnerable to psionic damage or to being asked complicated questions in the midst of battle (same result in both cases).

The armor protects only moderately against elemental damage and must therefore rely upon the armor's fast-repair system (ref: Dull Pain) and the powerful endoskeletal super-reflexes to survive.

Detailed Performance Specifications

The Goldbrick Armor System Prototype (G.A.S.P.) has the following stats (as of December 2, 2009):

2480 hps, an increase of 606 hps from accolades and invention set bonuses. Dull Pain boosts hps to 3534 for two minutes with an 82 second downtime and heals 1518 hps.

90% resistant to smashing/lethal damage.

31-35% resistant to fire/cold/energy/negative energy/toxic damage.

State of the art defensive capabilities: ~40% across-the-board typed defense vs a single foe from the combined effects of Invincibility, Tough Hide, Weave, Combat Jumping, IO set bonuses, and a 3% defense IO. Ten foes will peg the defense meter at a whopping 54%!

Minimal (18%) defense to psionic damage, although positional defenses can take up the slack there: 30% ranged, 21% melee, and 27% AoE.

The armor also possesses the following "passive" protections: 25% endurance drain resistance, 40% slow resistance, and 50% defense debuff resistance.

Seven attacks: Jab, Sands of Mu, Knockout Blow, Energy Torrent, Foot Stomp, Laser Beam Eyes, and a Nemesis Staff.

"Perma-Rage" capability that boosts base damage output by 80% with a to-hit bonus of 31%, with a ten second downtime every two minutes. IO set bonuses provide a constant 9.5% damage increase as well.

Rocket Boots provide short distance VTOL flight capability (58 mph top speed), and the powerful leg servos give the armor significant jumping power: max height 21.9 feet at a top speed of 41.3 mph.

The armor can link to the city teleportation grid for fast "upload" to the Evolution base, Pocket D, Wentworth's, and Ouroboros. Goldbrick can also direct the grid to assemble all teammates at his location.

Invention sets include Steadfast Protection, Reactive Armor, Aegis, Scirocco's Dervish, Numina's Convalescence, Mako's Bite, Kinetic Combat, Performance Shifter, Blessing of the Zephyr, two sets of Titanium Coating, and two sets of Red Fortune.

Other minor invention bonuses include +9% base accuracy, +5% flight/jump speed, +10% run speed, +10% recharge, -4 knockback, +6% improvement to healing powers, and a 20% chance of +10 endurance every ten seconds. The armor currently has 77 set IOs and 10 HO enhancers and its regular SO enhancements have all been converted to IOs.

Character History

The original prototype brochure from 2003 read as follows: "The Goldbrick Armor System is the best personal protection money can buy! For only $1 billion you too can be a superhero with G.A.S.!"

Later on while the armor was distinguishing itself in actual crimefighting, the following was added: "Our G.A.S. mileage proves that anyone can be a superhero, even this lunkhead we pulled out of the mailroom! Convenient 50-year loans available, inquire now!"

In early 2006 the company went out of business after producing (and upgrading twenty-six times) the sole demonstration prototype, which has remained at the request of the City Commissioner in the possession of the former mailroom employee.

Trivia

Schoolyard Bullies!

The term "goldbrick" is a play on words meaning gold + brick red, because the armor was constructed of an alloy of gold and the extremely dense, reddish-hued, artificial element 115. "Brick" also denotes tank, and more subtly, the term "goldbrick" reminds the buyer that the wearer is simply along for the ride, the armor will do all of the heavy lifting.

Minor gizmos in the armor include a weak taser; a damage resistant fire shield; a slow-charging freeze gun; a slow-charging 60 second psionic protection field; moderate hurdling power thanks to the powerful leg servos; and various other bits and bobs picked up during adventures over the years. And for some reason there's a built-in electric can opener (still unused). 591 badges so far, including 22 day job badges. Acquired the Master of the Statesman Task Force badge on April 3, 2010. His alignment is pure Hero. In addition to several other minor design flaws, the armor has no peripheral vision.
