The Gothic Defender, AKA Gene Slavin is one of the founding members of the Paragon Youth Corps. He is a Dark Miasma/Dark Blast Defender.
The Gothic Defender was created and is manned by Oak. He was originally created as somewhat of a joke character, but was well-liked and eventually made his way into the Teen Squadron. He would later be one of the four founding members of the Paragon Youth Corps.
Background
Gene was born into the family of a struggling Michael Slavin. Times were hard at first, the family not always able to make ends meet. Michael Slavin's father-in-law, a rich oil tycoon from Texas, offered to give them money several times, but in his pride, Michael Slavin could not accept it. It was not until he signed himself up for a dangerous experiment that he found it in him to assert himself and take every business opportunity he could find. The details of the experiment are unknown, but as a result he was given abnormal strength and was driven to fits of rage, mostly directed at his oldest son, Gene. The boy grew up just as angry if not angrier than his father, eventually beginning to lash out instead of hide and accept the violent outbursts. Upon receiving powers from a demon-summoning gone awry, the ceremony performed by a friend, Gene became a hero to vent his frustrations. He eventually made friends in the Teen Squadron, finding people who cared about him and cared enough to work through his problems. Yet it wasn't until the death of Michael Slavin that Gene started to become happy with himself. No longer as prone to anger, Gene has since married Jade May and adopted Silencer Micheal.
The Inflatable Jukebox
Gene never had anything to do with an inflatable Jukebox. Nor did his creator, personally. However, it is a brief inside joke with origins while this article was being written. The joke was supposed to be gone within a week, but it's forever in this article now. Unless somebody else removes it.
