Overview

Hagatha was a Magic Defender in Paragon City. She was a member of the supergroup, Brigands of Light. She has been retired from heroing.

Background

Description

Annie Bright is optimistic, perky, and cheerful.

So why does she dabble in the black arts?

Annie's grandmother, a powerful witch, raised her on dark magic since she was a baby. Not only did she learn to wield the powers of darkness, she also became accustomed to it. Thus, she has vastly different concepts of death and other aspects of life.

Taking the name of Hagatha, Annie became a crimefighter in order to hone her skills.

History

Spoiler warning: Details about story arcs or other game content follow.

In My Grandma the Body Snatcher, it was revealed that Hagatha's grandmother was a Circle of Thorns mage who swapped bodies for generations to survive to the present day. Placing Hagatha's soul into a crystal and taking her body, the mage gathered magical ingredients and attempted to enact a ritual to summon Ermeeth to the mortal world to destroy the Mu. She was thwarted, however, by Hagatha's friends, and they coerced the mage to return Hagatha to her own body while forcing the mage's soul into the crystal.

Two weeks later, Hagatha returned her grandmother's soul back to her own body. Hagatha's grandmother returned home to Dark Astoria to plot her revenge against one of the people who thwarted her.

Hagatha's mother was mortified to find her grandmother's soulless body, more mortified to hear that Hagatha had been possessed, and even more mortified when she attempted to wash off Hagatha's "make-up" and discovered that it wasn't. Hagatha was immediately forbidden to learn any more magic or go heroing (the latter of which she secretly disobeyed), and was made to wear more "girlish" outfits, a pink frilly dress.

Hagatha reached security level 50 in time for college. She was actually very book-smart and thus graduated high school at 17. She now goes to Paragon City University, where she majors in Occult Studies and lives on the Croatoa campus.

Spoilers end here.

Personality

Hagatha is eerily cheerful, even to the point of ditziness. Her views on death deviate greatly from the norms of society; the sight of corpses only elicits offers to revive them (usually as zombies) from her, and she has no qualms about killing villains or even taking and eating their souls (though the latter is strictly forbidden by her mother). Because of her strange upbringing, Hagatha usually needs someone (like her mother or her teammates) to tell her right from wrong and strange from normal.

Hagatha has the following quirks:

Shield.JPG Extremely Perky Self +Happiness
You are Extremely Perky and highly resistant to sadness. The death of your dog would probably not phase you (why, you could revive him as a zombie!), and if it did, it would only affect you for a few seconds. This power does not cost any endurance and is always on.

Powers

Hagatha's powers, passed down from her grandmother, call upon the shadows to strike at her foes or aid her allies.

Dark Miasma

Using the dark arts, Hagatha can whisk her friends to her side with the spirits at her command, or heal and revive them by stealing a little of her enemy's soul, or blanket the air or the ground with darkness to blind and weaken her enemies. She can also bind a defeated villain's soul to herself and call upon it to fight for her and atone for its past sins.

Dark Blast

Hagatha can attack her foes by calling upon the shadows of the netherworld to engulf her enemies in darkness.

Speed

By draining and storing the expended life force of those around her, Hagatha has a reserve of energy which she can occasionally tap from. She can use it to improve her sleight of hand, or use it in one burst to increase the deadliness of her powers. Hagatha has also steadily improved her own speed to the point where she can sprint across zones in minutes.

Flight

Of course, no witch is complete without the ability to fly, and Hagatha is no exception.
