Character History

Shiro grew up in an affluent household and never had much trouble as a child. He was always a great student, and had plans on attending university in the United States when he was old enough. He loved to study English and was a big fan of American pop culture.

One summer morning, Shiro woke up shivering and found that everything in his bedroom was covered in a sheet of frost. His confusion turned to terror as he stumbled to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. His flesh had grown a deathly pallor and small, painful bulges had formed on the sides of his head.

Shiro freaked. He packed up what he could carry and he ran away. Over the next few weeks, Shiro traveled at night, wandering through back alleys and service roads, afraid to show himself in public. The lumps on his head quickly grew into menacing horns, poking painfully through his scalp like a baby's teething. Not knowing what to do or where to go, Shiro stowed away on freight trains and cargo ships to come to Paragon City in search of answers.

He found a confidant in Antonio Nash of Atlas Park's branch of the G.I.F.T. organization. Nash helped Shiro understand what was happening to him and helped nurture the special abilities that he had developed.

As Shiro learned to harness his mutant powers and grew more comfortable in Atlas Park, Azuria of M.A.G.I. took notice. She saw the spark of magical potential in him, and directed him in tapping into that additional source of power. Shiro has a natural affinity for the Dark Arts and it is through this that he is able to fly, as well as wield the powerful Blackwand and Sands of Mu.

Finally, Shiro has achieved his dream: he now attends Paragon University in Steel Canyon. He has been making great progress as an inventor of superpower enhancements, as well as using his magical knowledge to break down and refine the trinkets and artifacts that he is able to salvage from the missions that G.I.F.T. and M.A.G.I. entrust to his care.

Personality

Since fleeing Japan, Shiro has worn a skull-like mask to hide his face. His mutation is more of a shameful deformity to him and he tries hard to hide his identity. Because of this he is always quiet around strangers, but Shiro wants to be friendly. Once he "warms" up to someone it's hard to get him to shut up.

Around the time he attained Security Level 30, Shiro has begun to come out of his shell. He can sometimes be seen without his mask and wearing his old school uniform (he says it's comfortable and reminds him to stay focused on his studies).

Powers and Abilities

Shiro prides himself on his versatility as a superhero, and he is always looking for new ways to apply his ice manipulation powers. Some of the tricks he has learned include:

Weaknesses and Limitations

Shiro was never very athletic, so he is easily winded and cannot withstand much punishment. He relies heavily on his freezing ability to quickly subdue his foes before they can counterattack. If the going gets rough, he will take to the skies and attempt to gain as much altitude as possible to escape defeat. If his ability to fly is hampered or negated, Shiro becomes a sitting duck.

Equipment

Hakushin always carries with him the Blackwand that Azuria entrusted to his care, as well as a few spellbooks to aid in his magical studies.

Trivia

Originally named "Shinishiro". In Japanese, "shini-" means "death" and "shiro" means "white" so this character's name literally translated to "Death White" in English. I wanted "White Death" but I was not sure how to translate that until I met a Japanese girl and asked her. She said it could roughly translate to "Hakushin"; "haku-" and "byaku-" are other ways to say "white".
