Personality
Morgan Tristram can be cynical and bitter, witty and sarcastic, quiet and pensive, brooding and moody, or charming and charismatic, depending on his mood at the moment. Whatever his current state, he does not tend to the warm, happy, fuzzy moods. There is always something about him that casts a shadow on the moment, even when he smiles.
Character History
Backstory
Morgan lived in Baumton until the area was leveled... after that his family moved to Mercy where his uncle lived, having no place else to go. Life was harsh on the Isles, but Morgan got around alright, especially once he made a few friends; it's always good to stick in a group if you don't want to be bothered. Of everybody he met and ran with, though, it was Tracy who seemed to understand him the most. Acquaintance led to friendship, then to being best friends, and ultimately lovers. The rest became history... or at least it should have been that simple.
Past Events
When large teams of heroes storm in and fight large teams of villains, things can get messy. For instance, when Longbow hears rumors of Rikti being sighted in the Isles, and decides to storm Mercy Island, to which Arachnos takes great offense and decides to strike back... well, people can get caught in the crossfire. Large explosions and toxic chemicals can kill and horrifically alter bystanders in a matter of seconds, and nobody may even notice it happened. Nobody noticed Tracy's body, in fact, until the young man holding it suddenly lashed out at an Arachnos leader and three Longbow agents, dealing mental damage from which their minds never really recovered...
Morgan Tristram was sentenced and thrown into the Zig. When Arachnos decided to break several people out of the Zig, Morgan jumped at the opportunity... calling himself Heartcry rather than giving the spiders a name they might be able to cross-reference. The only reason he got in that flyer was because it was bound for the Isles... as soon as it touched ground, he took to his heels and vanished into the seedy crowds of Mercy, swearing revenge...
Current Story
Heartcry spends most of his time in Pocket D, watching people, talking, drinking, and trying to forget as much as he dares... at least for a little while. This was how he met up with a woman by the name of Lazuli Fade, and through her was introduced to the Giovannis. Though he normally chooses to work alone, it is always good to have allies to fall back on... so he decided to work for them. For now, at least.
Lazuli, much to both their chagrin, became the closest thing to a confidant that Morgan has. They are both telepaths, so there really is no way they can bullshit each other. Morgan also sees Lazuli as shallow, superficial, but capable of giving people what they want when it suits her. However, the longer the two work together, the more she seems to question herself... and the more Morgan feels he can tell her. She has, in fact, earned the privilege of learning several details about his past... though some of this can be chalked up to the fact that she telepathically overheard many of the personal details already. Still, he can't quite figure out exactly what effect their telepathic connection has on her, or how she honestly feels about it. She says she hates him, but the mind doesn't lie...
Moving from Mercy to Port Oakes, Morgan continued to strike at Arachnos, and soon discovered Fort Hades. It was here that Arachnos had managed to create machines that can capture the spirits of the dead. The way this twists in Morgan's heart can't really be put to words... but he's determined to find out all he can about Fort Hades. Arachnos will pay for their indiscretion...
Distractions from his sister, claiming to have seen Tracy's ghost, pulled him to Mercy for a time, especially given this new information, but he did have intermittent contact with Lazuli, during which she began acting very strangely. When she went missing from the Giovannis altogether, Morgan struck out on his own to track her down. What he eventually found was an entire underground battle between vying groups of vampires... with Lazuli in the middle! Originally, she was caught up between a sadistic woman named Meg and the obnoxious bartender and partyhopper Vexxin Vega, whom he'd seen before at the D. Both of them got on Morgan's bad side when he had waking nightmares which telepathically recounted their violence. By the time Morgan could really get involved, though, Lazuli had become entangled with a far greater danger... an older vampire called Calvera. Lazuli was doing her best to keep him uninvolved, but as Morgan was tracking her down, he caught flashes of Vega rushing off to Lazuli's aid, more than once being badly injured. By the time Morgan met Calvera, Vega and he had developed an unspoken alliance on Lazuli's behalf.
As events began to spiral out of control, Lazuli finally came up with a solution on how to strike back at Calvera. Ironically, no sooner had the three of them planned this, when an old companion of Vega's showed up... and Calvera himself soon after. While Vega and his friend were in heated verbal battle with Calvera, Morgan bolstered Lazuli, who had decided to force a telepathic bond with Calvera for the purpose of using it to weaken him, causing him pain whenever he attacked one of them. Lazuli struck, and managed to force her way into his mind... but her natural link to Morgan, and her recent link to Vega wound up entangled as well. While Vega and Terry battled with Calvera's men, Morgan and Lazuli mentally pummeled Calvera until he retreated. However, it has since become painfully clear that anything Calvera can willingly do to cause himself pain will be felt directly by Lazuli and echoed to Morgan and Vega. It will take some time to develop a way to cripple Calvera while blocking his reactive counterstrikes. In the meantime, Lazuli, Vega, and Morgan have developed a strong alliance, and even tentative trust, in each other. Where things go next is anybody's guess.
Powers
Heartcry is capable of channeling his pain and rage through his psychic abilities, inflicting that same pain on others. His abilities have been known to cause lethargy, dizziness, paranoia, confusion, panic attacks, and severe headaches and nerve damage. An enemy facing him might be equally likely to run in fear, shoot his comrade in the back, or fall into a stupor.
Vulnerabilities
Heartcry has little in the way of physical strength unless he's on an adrenalin rush. He is capable of close combat, but is better at range. He is also susceptible to some of the same kinds of attacks that he uses, since his own nature is so volatile.
Rogue Gallery
Nobody specific yet... but he has a vendetta against most large organized groups... Arachnos, Longbow and the Rikti currently top that list.

Creator Notes and Trivia
This is the third or fourth incarnation of this character... he was my first villain, originally created on Justice. I have been looking for roleplayers to share his story and run missions, and this has led to alts both here and on Victory as well as Justice.
