Character History
Iona McDiarmid discovered at the age of 13 that she could generate an electrical charge on her skin. This was not surprising, since in the 30th Century, over half of the planet's population had workable superpowers thanks to the presence of the Life Star.
Her home city of Edinburgh was rapidly expanding at the time as the centre for the 4D Mining Industry, where giant Einstein-Rosen bridges were used to extract exotic materials from neighbouring parallel Earths. The influx of physicists, engineers and mining workers lead to a typical frontier town situation with 3 males to every female. Once Iona left school, she set up her own private security firm as Ionic Lass, and with her looks as well as her fighting skills and powers she had no trouble finding work.
Her path crossed that of the Celestial Bodies thanks to a holo-recording of one of her advertising pitches that got buried and unearthed seven Centuries later. "The Adventures of Ionic Lass" - a deliberately ironic cartoon depicting her fighting world class threats, was found by Coriolis Boy, who took the message at face value. Having grown up in a simulation of the 30th century Heroic Age, he'd dreamed of working alongside one of the great heroes of that age. He persuaded Nemesis 12 to test an experimental time machine and go back to the 30th century and recruit Ionic Lass.
A little taken aback, she played along and agreed. Her real plan was to sink her savings into a long term deposit, withdraw it in the 37th Century and retire. Unfortunately, she reckoned without the great Economic Crisis of the 33rd Century that wiped out her savings completely.
Ionic Lass has since had little choice but to work with the Celestial Bodies. She has now travelled back to the 21st Century with them - for them to revive the Life Star, for her the plan is to get back to her own time.

Ionic Lass is a reserve member of the 37th Century chapter of the Celestial Bodies.
Personality
Ionic Lass is a woman who knows what she wants, preferably with as little personal effort as possible. She will typically try to cajole or bully her teammates into taking the greatest risks if things get too tough for her.
This is countered by her love of showing off her skills and powers.
Powers
Ionic Lass can generate an electrical charge of around 3000 volts on her skin, either all over or selectively on individual body parts. She's received training to use this for a number of effects.
She can use her fists like tasers to stun an opponent. She can generate an alternating current to violently repel anyone she touches or a direct current to prevent anyone from letting go if they grab her.
By generating a high voltage low current charge she can ionise the air and arc an electrical charge to a target up to 30 metres away, but finds this difficult and draining, preferring to fight up close most of the time.
Iona can levitate by inducing a positive charge in both herself and the ground below her. She has a ceiling height of around 5 metres and a top speed of 10m/s (36km/h) when doing this.
Weaknesses and Limitations
Iona cannot use her powers properly if her skin gets wet, and finds it quite painful to generate a charge under these conditions.
Trivia
Iona has a strong Scottish accent, which some 21st Century Americans may have trouble understanding.
