The character draws inspiration from such characters as Wolverine from the Marvel universe, Batman and Booster Gold from the DC universe of comics, as well as Defender from Champions (both the tabletop and MMO).

A young, powerfully built man, Ironlaw has thick blonde hair and emerald green eyes. His skin is tanned and is marred by numerous scars acquired from past battles. He has a tattoo between his shoulder blades of a Pratorian Star, charged with a disc with a border of olive branches. Featured in the center is the head of the goddess Minerva. His costume is inspired by that of Emperor Cole's. He wears large pieces of cybernetically enhanced armor overtop of a his more traditional tights and carries two energy blades, powered by his suit, at all times.

Both of the Soldati brothers are skilled combatants, trained in many different schools of combat. Despite the training, their real strength comes from the many technological devices they have aquired, allowing them comand over powers most have only dreamed of.
Shield is a perfectionist in the use of blades and hand-to-hand combat. He has learned a number of different martials styles from any and all that are willing to teach him. From his studies of ancient gladitorial combat, the greek styles of Pankration and Pygmachia to more current practices such as Krav Maga and Kali. He trains with his blades daily, always seeking to improve upon his skill. Mahaim, while nowhere near as proficient in melee combat as his brother, has studied many forms of defensive combat and will never back down from a fight. His preferred method of combat is to strike out at his enemies from a distance..
Through the use of various technological devices, Shield has been able to produce vast amounts of electrical energy. Using this ability he can wrap himself in barriers of electricity making him extremely resistant to pain and many forms of damage. Offensively, the Shield of Thunder has also learned how to cast that enegry outwards in a field that causes harm to to others. He also possess the ability charge his blades with electricity, allowing it to slice through even the most resistant materials.

Taking his name from the roman god of nocturnal thunder, Sumannus is Hoplite 1's rival and arch-nemesis. It was his near death at the hands of Sumannus that led to Hector receiving his powers and becoming a true superhero. The two have faced off numerous times and, at the beckoning of his supernatural benefactor, Hector hunts the villain relentlessly to this day.

The hero and villain possess nearly identical powers, with Hoplite 1 being the better combatant and Sumannus have more mastery over his gift. Sumannus also serves as a constant reminder to Hoplite 1 of what he will become should he let his fury go unchecked.

- The characters real name is basically an italian version of Hoplite One's. With Ettore being the italian form of Hector and Soldati being the word for 'Soldier' as opposed to Hoplite's Stratis, which is greek for 'Good Soldier'
- Ironlaw's costume is inspired by Defender, from Champions Online, and by Batman in color.
