Ironsoul Titan
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Joshua Jones was born with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis which during his short life left him confided to a bed or chair all the time. He was well cared for by his loving parents both wealthy stock brokers. He just always wanted more then his trapped existence. He spent most of his time reading about supers and there larger then life stories.
At a young age he showed an unheard of level of skill with machines. Joshua would built tiny robots of the people we read about and have them play out the stories he read. What was a concern to his nurses and medical staff is no one really could figure out how he made these things work. Having given some over to a local university for study it was found this purely clockwork machines should not work with out being connected to some sort of external device. They had all the gears and pistons they would need to function but no drive or control system for them. But they did work as long as Joshua wanted them to.
His parents worried about this not sure just what was going on sent specialists. All of them confirmed Joshua was a normal kid with an illness nothing more and none could explain why his clockwork toys worked. So he was left to his toys while seen are unique it was not seen as a danger as they were small and with recent news that he would most likely not live more then a few more years they let him have his small joy while he could.
But no one can keep such information from a curious boy and it was not long until he found out the news. Given this shattering limit on his time left he started to build a larger toy one he had the plan to ‘upload’ himself into. While again they saw this as just his way of coping as no one really believed such a thing was possible they let him be. His parents poured money into his iron toy in the hopes of keeping him happy in his last days.
Fate would change things for Joshua. A group of villains having crossed paths with the local heroes needed an escape plan. They would blow up the near by hospital to shake the heroes off their tail. The hospital was leveled and Joshua found himself trapped in rubble. He tried to reach out with all his might but his muscles long since locked away by his illness did not respond. He could not call for help all he could do was lay there helpless. His tiny heart cried out for help he wanted so bad just to be free of this place.
Rescue workers and heroes outside the hospital were working at a frantic pace to save anyone still trapped inside. A rumbling came from within and everyone paused in silence trying to discern its location. In that quite moment as the sun was setting behind the wrecked walls what was once the small ward of Joshua and others exploded. In the gleaming red light of dusk stood a huge iron and brass figure over eight feet tall and in its huge hands it lay at the feet of the paramedics the small lifeless body of Joshua.
Without saying a word the iron giant turned and started pulling away more rubble and wreckage freeing others trapped inside. When night finally came and the wreckage cleared someone asked the hero his name. In a vary child like voice he said. “I am Ironsoul.”
