Physical Prowess

When in his normal form, John has the strength and agility of an Olympic athlete in excellent condition. When in his armor, his strength and dexterity are augmented to superhuman levels.

Powers/Abilities

John derives his primary and secondary powersets from the armor he creates, almost always fashioned into some form of pumpkin motif. He has created 4 sets, each set evolving more dramatically over the previous in both design and efficiency. All of his suits have integrated servomuscular augmentation, allowing him to perform phenomenal feats of strength and agility. Neuropliometric control is maintained via epidermal inductive contacts in the lining of the armor. All suits also have self-contained life-support apparatus, allowing him to survive without food, air, or water for up to 72 hours.

His original armor was deemed the Nightwraith model, as he had planned to use it for fighting crime under that nom du guerre. Though not as durable as later incarnations, it boasted Opti-Warp techonology, allowing him to bend light around him so as to render him invisible. He would discard this feature in later models, in favor of additional weapons and defense systems.

The current armor, the Lightbourne design, represents an extraordinary marriage of technology and magical artificing, in an entirely revamped overall design. Though the armor still boasts gyroplanar boost units for flight, the Lightbourne incorporates boot-mounted rocket systems to assist in supersonic flight. The exodermal layer is constructed from a teflon/kevlar weave, impregnated with a magnetic-activated effector grid to enhance rigidity. The armor has been tested to withstand a direct shot from a .38 caliber handgun, and offers excellent protection in hand-to-hand combat. In times of emergency, John can reset the effector grid conduits to allow the magnetic sculpt-shield technology to project freely past the armor confines, causing a localized repulsor field to surround him and casting any who approach him away.

The armor utilizes his own patent called the Imbrisync process. He has been hesitant to explain this, but the general thrust is that he somehow shunts his armor into pockets between chronotemporal layers, storing it extradimensionally. While it works to brilliant efffect, it also has a developed side effect of altering gravitational adherence to those in the immediate area.

This effect has been catalogued, however, and John has learned how to replicate it in a controlled area, basically rending gravitational anchoring from all in its area of effect, and giving them phenomenal leaping abilities for a short period.

Perhaps the most outstanding achievement in his various armorsets has been the ability to utilize his shadow powers through the suit, perhaps even augmenting their effectiveness. Eventually, he would teach himself the craft of technomancy, effectively channeling his innate powers through the suit to devastating effect.

In addition to his technical prowess, John has undergone vast training in the disciplines of shadow sorcery, zen origami, and mind-over-body mastery.

As the result of a recent battle, he has also come into possession of a Nemesis Staff, which he has successfully repaired and utilizes against more difficult foes.

He currently holds medical degrees in three specialties ... neurology, cardiothoracic, and psychology. He is also an accomplished novelist and inventor, holding numerous patents, and a concert-level pianist.

Background

John Michael Thomas Flannery was the son of a career policeman and a writer, and had shown signs of being a prodigy in several fields at a very early age. Stanford-Benet testing at age 4 registered him at an IQ rating of 191, and he was funneled into special programs for early collegiate qualification.

While serving as a lead researcher for Crey Industries' quantum integration unit, .

Allegiances

His strongest current allegiance lies with the ShadowHunters, a group dedicated to fighting the Nictus threat. Within the Hunters, he holds the rank of Ally, having but only recently joined the fold. Though he tends to be aloof and a lurker at the edges, he is known to be steadfast and unswervingly loyal. He has recently accepted the position of chief physician for the Hunters, and has taken residence in the Den. He often works with Dayka on matters which transcend scientific method, and respects the young houngan immensely.

He has also developed a deepening relationship with Joy, the daughter of Shade Nefarious and Kassandrian de Luca. He is reticent to discuss his private life, but the growing affection there is quite obvious, and shows no signs of slowing down. There is some speculation that he has broken his oath to his dead father, and asked for her hand, but is not known for certain.

Enemies

John has voiced a concern with the hero Wyntershade, whom he has identified as his brother Liam. While there is no antipathy towards his younger sibling, John has expressed a certain fear of the man, and will resist being in his presence to the point of violence for some reason.

Longbow has declared him anathema, and will attempt to destroy him on sight. He will also go to great ends to undo the working of Crey Industries whenever opportunity presents itself.

Rumors (feel free to add your own additions!)

•It is rumored that John is actually some intermediator for a darker power, seeking to corrupt utterly any who fall prey to his verbal and magical skills.
•There is no Liam ... something in the death of his mother split John's psyche into two distinct sides, and he works to atone himself through the workings of Wyntershade.
•It is unknown why John adopted the Pumpkin King motif as his calling. While the emotional trauma of his wife's death was undeniable, the pathos behind this choice plays out to something more sinister than just reaction.
