Personality

Janus isn't a well adjusted individual, despite many an effort to the contrary. He can easily come off as an utter ass with ease, despite his intentions being well-meaning. He is at heart a troubleshooter, and not just because he's willing to shoot things that cause him trouble. There has been a desire inside of him to create order from chaos, occasionally where it isn't even needed.

Janus thinks highly of himself and is in no short supply of self esteem. His ego is massive, and while he will say as much in a joking manner, he's well aware he means what he says. This has caused him to purposefully walk into many a trap with the intention of making his would-be ambushers look like fools. He has done this many times, but has also been thoroughly trounced to a degree that it once caused his death. However, he got better with bed rest.

Morality

"You must like it when people in authority they never earned lie to you." - Spider Jerusalem

If there's anything Janus is proficient in, it's hating people. He hates the people in of the myriad government offices because of their gross incompetence, greed, and general apathy towards anything but their paycheck. He hates the people of the city for electing the aforementioned people into office. He hates the media for doing exposes on "up and coming heroes" while the people who make life or death decisions with the nation accept money from anyone with a hand outstretched far enough to reach.

This led to a long period of time where Janus developed a "kill 'em all" philosophy of life. He began to see people as nothing more than animals, only interested in running home or to a bar to pick up the nearest stranger and spread diseases. He felt nothing when he killed people under the banner of the Nemesis Council.

The only thing that pulled him out of a seemingly inevitable spiral of murderous rage was a frustratingly naive girl who went by the name of Vandellia. Her views, which he found absurdly idealistic, slowly affected his own to a point that while he believed essentially the same thing, he held on to some form of hope that the masses might be willing to one day do something about that whole "huddling" thing.

Powers

Janus's powers, when he was under the moniker of Asper, came from a runestone that gave him electrical powers. He eventually decided to become less reliant upon it and began learning proper spellcasting.

Due to some absurd soul-shattering experiments, he lost his ability to fling said spells, however, and he turned to his then-adopted daughter Vandellia to lend him a bit of her blood. The result was him altering a dormant mutant gene in his body that gave him the same regenerative powers she had.

In recent months he has regained his ability to spellcast and has taken to learning how to control the earth, because the ability to say (or at least think) that you have the ability to control heaven and earth is too tempting.

Abilities

Janus has a reasonable amount of proficiency with computer hacking and the handling of explosives. These have almost become essential hero'ing tools at this point in history.

Character History

A Dark and Stormy Night

Janus was in his last year of college when he got the phone call from the police. His parents' home had been set on fire and they needed him there for identification. He arrived to find the scene and story in a high degree of chaos. The Tsoo had made a push into King's Row and his father, owning a business in the area, refused to pay protection money. The Tsoo weren't interested in negotiating and killed him and his wife. Janus was understandably distraught and did what any stupid kid would do: run to the nearest Tsoo warehouse seeking revenge. He was well aware he was unarmed and outclassed, so he broke in quietly, deciding to steal something from them and then use it against them. Deeper within the warehouse he cracked open a crate and found a small runestone. Upon picking it up, he felt a searing glow and then nothing. He woke up in Independence Port the next morning, later finding out the warehouse had been razed to the ground, killing everyone inside.

The Sinister Hand of Acceptance

Janus brooded on this for days, unable to return to Paragon University or face his brother, who he'd last seen at his parents' former home. Compounding his degrading sanity was the voice he could swear was whispering to him from the runestone. He needed help and he knew it. His guilt of knowing he'd murdered dozens of people forced him to seek out groups of less-than-ideal morals in the golden city of Paragon. It was then he came across the manifesto of a man calling himself Dr. Nemesis. He preached a doctrine of rebellion and unity through strength. He was, frankly, moved. This brought him into the house of the Nemesis Council, where he eventually became the apprentice of the good doctor. Large scale plans, each holding dozens of contingencies each, were slowly drafted to usurp the power from Paragon and distribute it to those more worthy. Many hangups occured over the years to push the schedule back, but there was ultimately one thing that ruined Janus's chances of accompanying Dr. Nemesis in his goals.

The Best Laid Plans

Vandellia. Then Vanessa Weekes. Through utter chance, the two, who should've been enemies in all reality, struck up a friendship of sorts that evolved into something akin to a father-daughter relationship. Her naive worldview was as frustrating as it was endearing, and soon it began to soften his harsh views of the world as well. When the time came, he had no desire to strike at Paragon's government. He had begun to pity them more than loathe them.

Company Man

His adoptive daughter had a thorn in her paw in the form of the company she was running. One thing after another reared its head in the organization and caused her no end of grief. So he did what any good father would do: he meddled.

Uncertain what actual good he could do for the company, at his suggestion, Vanessa put him on the board of directors. In reality, he spends much of his time doing the paperwork his daughter desperately avoids, speaks at press conferences when only a certain level of tact is required, and monitors the necessary upkeep of the S.D.I. building.

Allies

Leah Drayden - Janus's girlfriend. They've been seeing each other longer than Janus can keep track of and is rather deeply in love, surprising even him that he's capable of such a thing.

Vandellia - His adopted daughter. He's optimistic he'll one day get her off of this vegetarian kick of hers.
