Description
Education
Kaipara was homeschooled in Tokyo, Japan, and Ithaca, New York, until her teen years. Private tutors taught her all basic studies (Math, Science, History), including English. She then went to a private school and graduated with a high GPA, surprising some of the faculty.
Since she was six, two martial arts masters were assigned to her, both for education and protection. These men relocated with Kai and her mother to New York around Kai's 10th birthday. Senseis Kimi and Senshu became father figures to the young girl, who never saw her father after 2003. When Kaipara turned 18, her masters said goodbye and flew home to Japan. She has not heard from them since.
Zodiac
Kaipara was born October 23rd, 1990. She is a Scorpio on the cusp of Libra, born in the Year of the Horse (as was her father). She is stubborn, but intelligent and charming to get what she wants.
Physical Appearance
Kaipara ("Kai") has mid-back length black hair, large black eyes and fair skin. She has no piercings except for a single hole ineach lobe, and the jewelry often changes to match her clothing. When not fashion-minded, a simple pair of white gold, amethyst studs adorn her ears.
Kai is spoiled rich; all her clothing is handmade by a personal tailor and friend of her father's. However, Kai does not own closets full of clothes, shoes, and jewelry. When moving to PI she brought three suitcases: two with clothing and one with accessories & shoes. She also brought a well-made duffel containing her various blades.
On any given day Kai can be seen wearing rock-tinged styles: clunky platform boots with wide buckles; plaid or striped skirts (usually with fishnets); leather jackets; and black arm warmers or gloves. She likes dark purple or magenta, as well as hot pink. Sometimes she wears silver chains around her neck and arms; these are visible when the demon is close (but more on that later).
For training purposes, Kai bought a few inexpensive things from the Facemaker in Cap Au Diable: a white tank top, loose grey pants, and scrap material for arm and leg wraps. When training, Kai pulls her hair into two tight buns to minimize distraction.
Mental Analysis
Kaipara has never felt the gnawing pain of poverty, or even the embarrassment of being a dollar short for dinner. This is due to her father's seemingly endless gifts of money. These gifts, however, are not entirely out of love. She receives hush money from her father out of necessity and guilt.

Theme Song
The Space In Between -- How To Destroy Angels
As with all my characters' theme songs, this one happened randomly and just fit. I was listening to iTunes (shuffling a long list of favorites) and while playing Kai this song began. I instantly knew it was her song. I figure part of this is because Mariqueen Maandig Reznor (lead singer and wife of Trent Reznor, also in the band) looks like Kaipara to me. But the song is also eerie (especially the video) and has a quiet intensity I feel portrays Kai's fighting style very well.
Trivia
Kai was born and raised in Tokyo, but her player has no knowledge whatsoever of Japanese. Don't expect any diatribes in Japanese.
