Character Information
Personality
Kanon Fujiwara is an intense young woman; her stare is direct and rarely wavers from looking others in the eye and her voice is kept just barely to the edge of being audible forcing others to quiet to listen. There is a mild accent to her words betraying the fact that, despite Kanon's suggestions otherwise, she is a transplant to Paragon City from Japan. Very few of her reactions seem anything less than perfectly planned, weighed and modulated as if she were being judged on every word, blink, and twitch of her lip. She blinks slowly, smiles rarely, moves methodically, and generally maintains herself as a model of intense restraint and perfection.
The first and foremost virtues to Kanon are service and duty. Despite her clear frustrations with her parents and their clear emotional neglect towards her, Kanon considers it a point of pride that she remains a perfectly filial daughter despite their treatment of her. Despite inconvenience she has never refused any request made by the school for extra work or hours. She has never had so much as a pillow out of place during inspection and has given out as many infraction tickets to herself as she has any other person. Whether or not this is a long-term, subtle act of self-loathing or an incredible sense of civic and familial service remains in question.
Morality
Morality is not much of a question for Kanon. There are things that you are told you need to do and you do them. While she, of course, does have free will and doesn't become indecisive when given choices, her mind tends to work more towards efficiency of goals rather than doing what is best. Due to her own emotional detachment from others for various reasons, likewise, Kanon rarely considers other people's emotional well being when she makes decisions. Just the most efficient way to achieve the result that will succeed at the most short and long-term goals.
Powers
Possibly one of the stronger telepaths currently at Blackstone Hills Preparatory School, Kanon's powers are recently augmented by the cycle of drug testing done by Fujiwara Industries; recently unlocking telepathic powers where originally her abilities were primarily telekinetic. Continued prolonged use of her powers has been known to cause Kanon to experience nose bleeds, aphasia, fainting or even seizures to the point wherein she needs to medicate to avoid these effects.
After Summer, 2012, the testing cycle at Fujiwara Industries has given Kanon access to three major groups of power
Telepathic
Kanon's telepathic abilities are still rudimentary; she first has to contact someone's mind which usually creates the sound of static just beyond kenning and the person still needs to be within range. From there she can manage conversations even if they should later leave the area. Prolonged conversation has been known to sometimes cause some psychic leakage wherein Kanon picks up some traits from the person or peoples who mines she's touched. At most she can create a hub of up to 10 people, though, the psychic leakage into Kanon's psyche becomes greater with each addition.
Telekinetic
When viewed by someone who can see psionics Kanon possesses 6 psychic "arms" that seem to actively hover around at all times, whereas previously to the 2012 testing cycle Kanon had only 4. Each of these "arms" can manipulate one object up to 500 lbs individually and all together Kanon can now manipulate objects as large as a car so long as her attention remains undivided. Her telekinetic reach is roughly a hundred foot bubble around her wherein she has passive awareness of the objects about her.
Suggestion
Entirely new after her 2012 testing cycle, Kanon has developed the ability of minor powers of suggestion - mostly involving base mental impulses such as sleep and fear. She can also hit with a major amount of mental "static" causing others to become unable to act due to having too many excess thoughts intruding on their own to actually command action.
Character History
Early History
Kanon is the youngest sibling of two, born to Matsuo and Keiko Fujiwara when they returned to Japan on a routine tour of the Eastern facilities of Fujiwara Incorporated - a company which specializes in bio-technology meant for metahuman use. Unlike her older sister, Clarissa, there were next to no birth announcements, no shower, no events. It was apparent Kanon was a mutant from a very early age due to her rudimentary telekinetic control of objects and the Fujiwara's immediately called in experts at their company to investigate the extent and breadth of their youngest daughter's powers.
Clarissa had private tutors come to teach her piano; Kanon had scientists study the speed of her language acqusition for later studies. Clarissa's 10th birthday party celebrated at Playhouse Square in a private party for all of her friends; Kanon's fifth birthday was celebrated in a laboratory practicing fine control. Kanon's parents made one rule very clear: behave perfectly and appropriately in each situation, do not cause us shame or call undue attention, never speak back and never disobey, and you can have everything and anything you want.
Due to the spikes in her powers and their early onset much of Kanon's childhood was spent with scientists and in a testing facility for the sake of safety of others rather than attending any public or private institution. While Kanon does not particularly like to talk about her past training she did note before she gained control of her powers, when emotions still greatly effected them, her mother taught her a simple lesson which helped her maintain ever since. Matsuo saw to it that skilled professional tutors and doctors were on hand for her education to not be degraded while she was not able to attend school until her parents found Blackstone Hills Prepartory where she has lived ever since.
Given the demands of work, Kanon is one of the few students listed as a full-year student. She remains on campus for all holidays and breaks in a private apartment. With the exception of a brief two weeks in a Fujiwara testing facility, Kanon has not been away from campus since she arrived in 2004.
