From whence arrived the praying mantis?
From outer space, or lost Atlantis?
Glimpse the grin, green metal mug
At masks the pseudo-saintly bug,
Orthopterous, also carnivorous,
And faintly whisper, Lord deliver us.
Alien Creature
Unusual wouldn't be a bad word to describe this individual, even in Paragon City. At a glance, the odd choice of attire and colors tends to stand out a little, especially when their legs are taken into account. The blue-grey chitinous digitigrade appendages certainly stick out compared to the Yellow-Purple-Green ensemble that is their... armor? It's difficult to tell for sure at a distance, but it certainly looks bulky enough to be armor. Combine all that along with what amounts to a heavy, synthetic cloth bag over their head and what appears to be some sort of gas mask completely obscuring their face and you have the appearance of something that seems more suited to Etoile or some B film.
If you look closer things don't get any more normal. Assuming you can even see the them, given their propensity to be difficult to impossible to see. Not that you need to necessarily look to notice odd things, and being invisible doesn't preclude them from being heard. Well, not heard per se, for they rarely speak at all. If they do the raspy, almost pained sounding voice wouldn't be particularly pleasant on the ears. Rather, what's picked up is a broadcast on an entirely different wavelength: that of telepathy. Not words, at least not usually, but a sorrowful song of sorts. Musical, but not quite music. It's too disjointed, scattered, almost as though it was but a part to a much larger whole. Not all humans or other denizens of Primal Earth can pick up their telepathic broadcasts. As such their very presence, seen or not, has sparked debates on whether or not there was some music playing from somewhere, or confusion as to where it was coming from.
A few have speculated that the creature is, in fact, undead. This is brought on by the rather unpleasant odor that barely escapes their confining attire. So weak is it that only those with a heightened sense of smell or those who dare to get atypically close will pick it up. The smell is so akin a decaying body that few could pick up the subtle differences. And if someone got so close as to pick up the smell, they might also detect the occasional quiet clicking sounds coming from behind the mask. Not mechanical clicking, though. Something more organic.
Get around to spending more time observing them, and a few things will inevitably become apparent. Whatever they are, they aren't confident. An air of hesitation lingers about their every action. Any communication they do provide tends to be delayed, thought out, deliberate, but not certain. Everything they do seems to be punctuated with a question mark, almost as though they are asking if they are correct in their every movement or statement.
Local social norms are clearly not something they are familiar with. And there are plenty of other concepts that seem to be missed as well. Their ignorance in these matters is their most obvious trait when it comes to social interactions. Simple understandings that effectively everyone takes for granted may be violated. If confronted about these oddities, however, they seem to take keen interest in what is expressed as the right or the wrong way of doing things. That doesn't mean their interpretation is always correct, however, and it may take a few iterations to arrive at expected responses.
Not exactly shy, but certainly not outgoing. They tend to prefer to watch others, often while hiding, but won't hesitate to engage if spotted. If one can spend enough time to get past all the oddities that any interaction with them is likely to bring out, they will find a vast curiosity attached to an unapologetic yet helpful individual.
Leave them to their own devices, though, and in time it may become apparent that they are far out of their depth in the human realm of right and wrong. It would be hard to mistake their actions for malicious intent, given one spent any time trying to understand their actions. And it would take no leap of the imagination to come to the conclusion that some guidance in this area could nudge them towards either side of the spectrum, given the right approach.
The desire to help can blind one from simple truths, such as the fact that helping one can harm many. Care should be exercised by those who may wish to lead this one astray, though. Who can say how they will react if the truth of the situation were to be realized.
Your interactions with this individual may have far more an impact on them than you would think, or intend to. That is the nature of the impressionable. That is the curse of the malleable.
Alien Abilities
Due to their reclusive nature outside of private social situations they have not been registered as of yet. Known abilities listed below until they are registered properly.
Powers and abilities
Telepathic broadcast. Subject does not appear to be able to direct these to individuals, but instead broadcasts it to an area around them.
Some form of invisibility or cloaking, and sound dampening.
Suspected heightened or superhuman strength.
Confirmed superhuman durability though uncertain if natural, due to armor, or a combination of both.
Suspected that the subject does not require regular sleep, possibly suggesting slow metabolism.
Subject displays some level of affinity towards some kinds of insects.
Suspected limitations & vulnerabilities
Appears to be highly susceptible to suggestion.
Seems to react to specific kinds of sounds, notably musical tones.
Known History
Observational speculation follows, as so far attempts to solicit historical information from the subject have been unsuccessful due to an apparent lack of concept of history.
It is unknown how or when this alien arrived on Earth. The first suspected sighting was by the less-than-reliable account of a single witness of the event describing 'a very musical shadowy blur' fleeing an area. Given the rather unique description of the 'music', while different than the subject's normal broadcast, suggests that it may have been the subject. Their account was from early October, 2019.
Lacking proper registration and prior knowledge of this species makes the subject's age an unknown. While it appears to be carbon-based life attempts to examine it have proven difficult.
